We all know that the kitchen can be a bit chaotic at times. Spills, splashes and stains can leave your kitchen looking a little worse for wear. The team at Thirst Pockets wants to know when have kitchen rolls/towels been your kitchen saviour?

Here’s what they say “Here at Thirst Pockets HQ we endeavour to make our kitchen towel as absorbent as we can to help tackle all those household spills! We are super proud of our new look range featuring Original Thirst Pockets, Our beautiful 'I love my Kitchen' decorated version, Multicloth that's amazingly versatile for cleaning windows & mirrors, leaving a streak free finish and most recently Thirst Pockets Extra Long with the same super absorbency as original but with twice as many sheets ... super absorbency goes on & on.”

So when have kitchen rolls been your kitchen lifesaver? Have they saved your DC from skidding on a water spill on the floor? Perhaps they’ve spared you a heart attack by soaking up a gallon of oil and grease from your chips and roasties? Or maybe they just take the hassle out of cleaning regular towels? However your kitchen roll has been your kitchen lifesaver, Thirst Pockets would love to know.

Everyone who posts on this thread will be entered into a prize draw where one lucky Mumsnetter will win a £300 Love2Shop voucher.

Is great for all the kids mess - which is constant in our house!

Bragadocia · 05/04/2016 21:04

I had nothing to wear to a friend's cheese and wine party last weekend. What to do? I spied the 4 pack of Thirst Pockets kitchen roll in the cupboard and inspiration struck!

Wrapping layer upon layer of its delightfully textured weave around my legs, I unfurled the paper upwards and onwards (the roll went on forever!) and fashioned a flattering tube dress that clung to my curves. The outstanding strength of Thirst Pockets superior kitchen roll meant I knew it wouldn't let me down all night.

Everyone took my creation for a Herve Leger bandage dress. Genuinely.

It was also incredibly handy for mopping up spilled wine. And cheese.

Do I win?

wavingnow · 05/04/2016 22:25

Bragadocia surely you must post a pic of such a wonderous outfit.

I put it in rucksacks for our walks for all manner of needs and in case of emergency, knowing it will not let us down.

Today!

Daughter has a long standing knee injury - an ongoing ligament problem that flares up from time to time.

A friend came round today and we were sitting at the kitchen table drinking tea when daughter came in and friend started advising her about therapeutic 'exercises' for her knee.

Friend sat on the edge of the table and began demonstrating the leg movement daughter should be doing, but at the same time leant back and knocked over her cup of tea which began to spill out, and was in danger of soaking chair cushions, table runner and table top.

I saw this happening and dived for the kitchen roll. I was able to mop it all up in seconds!

If I hadn't had the kitchen roll handy it would have been dishcloths, towels, mops and probably laundry, but the kitchen roll just soaked it up, no mess or fuss, and straight in the bin afterwards!

Job done!

my 2 year old regularly spills drinks, so its used all the time to mop drinks up. My daughter had her guinea pigs out on the sofa,1 of them did a wee on the sofa, and they were great for mopping that up. My daughter was ill before, and we realised she was going to vomit, and we used a big pile of kitchen roll for that, which saved her clothes and the floor getting covered

ButtonMoonLoon · 05/04/2016 23:23

Kitchen roll truly saved the day on the occasion my daughter decided to 'massage' her dolls using hair conditioner!

A million times over when I've sleepily over-filled the perfect prep machine and the water has gone all over the place.

AmyInTheBoonies · 06/04/2016 08:13

When my cat knocked an entire bottle of olive oil off the kitchen counter.
It went all over the floor and counter.
Too messy to use a tea towel so soaked it all up with kitchen roll then a bit of kitchen spray and kitchen roll again to wipe it up.

yoomoo · 06/04/2016 10:42

I have a 4 month old puppy... Say no more!! Kitchen roll is the best way to clear up the initial mess before a deeper clean of the floor, I don't know what we would have done without rolls of kitchen paper on hand. I use it for lots of things though, it's fab for cleaning my glass tables & Windows and making my black gloss kitchen cupboards shiny again after a wash down. Just worked out we use 2 rolls a week Shock

QueenofallIsee · 06/04/2016 11:12

I am NOT a morning person and am also given to whims i.e. my 'juicing' craze. Kitchen paper saves the day when you juice with only one eye open and neglect to secure the lid.

mmmm Kale flavoured kitchen tiles.

I was just finishing off a batch of ragu when I realised, to my horror, that I was a sinner and that I was unable to atone for my sin by myself. I knew that unless I could find some way of atoning for my sins I would be cast into a lake of fire. Confused

Imagine my immeasurable relief when I remembered that my kitchen roll was to hand for this very thing. It only took a couple of sheets to absolve me of all my wretchedness and I'm now seen as blameless in the sight of God for all eternity. Grin

When do I get my prize? Halo

MummyBtothree · 06/04/2016 12:50

Wiping something up off the floor before the dog gets a chance to eat it!.

Wiping food off the wall when my toddler decides to fling it about! .

Newquay · 06/04/2016 13:19

Some great ideas here- thank you. I have a Motorhome proud DH with a 16 month DS who only eats weetabix - and insists on spooning it in himself until bored - when he flicks it around. I use maybe 10 sheets a meal - draped over me and all the seats.

I've got a little boy who is disabled and had a gastrostomy which is a feeding tube directly into his tummy.

Yesterday he decided to pull out the tube while I was in the bathroom and he fed the kitchen floor... The feeding pump put most of his breakfast milk in the floor! Icky sticky mess sorted by kitchen towel .... Phew!!! We go through so many rolls s week

TheOptimisticPessimist · 06/04/2016 14:50

DP and I once had a slight mishap at his parents house involving a somewhat overfilled deep fat fryer. Boiling oil erupted everywhere - across the surfaces, on the floor, and even leaked inside cupboards. The only tea towels they owned were fairly nice and expensive ones, so mopping everything up was left to the mercy of kitchen roll. It took a LOT of sheets and a decent amount of time, but thankfully we had everything sorted out before they got home Grin

capsium · 06/04/2016 14:59

It makes a great handkerchief to carry in DC's blazer pocket. Material ones are just too uncool - no one has them & tissues disintegrate very quickly.

MummyBtothree · 06/04/2016 15:19

I also use kitchen roll to absorb the excess oil after taking chips out of the fryer. I also use it to grease baking tins & put my egg shells on it when baking to absorb the mess.

Gcalgske · 06/04/2016 16:03

I have a 3 year old. Kitchen roll is ESSENTIAL. Cleaning work tops, wiping out the oven after cooking something fatty, but I'd say they are most indispensable for cleaning up eggs - dropped in the floor during baking with the wee one - sprinkle with salt then wipe up with kitchen roll.

FurbysMakeSexNoises · 06/04/2016 16:50

Last night when my son had a puke-nami!

Hopelass · 06/04/2016 16:52

Cleaning glass. We've just had a conservatory built and I'm constantly wiping the toddler's hand prints and cat's nose prints off the Windows/patio doors. Kitchen roll is the only thing that works with glass cleaner to leave no lint, fluff or streaks in my experience. Wouldn't use anything else.

Ohwoolballs · 06/04/2016 17:38

We have loads of spills in our house (I'm the clumsy one and currently doing everything one handed holding a nearly two week old!) but by far the most important use for our kitchen roll is my DPs thrice cooked chips, boil once, rest in a sieve, fry twice with a layer of kitchen roll to soak up grease. 👍

Other uses are to dry paintbrushes, clean surfaces and mop up spilt boob milk when the pump gets a bit enthusiastic.

TalkMeDownPlease · 06/04/2016 17:49

If Something gets spilt on the carpet, I press wads of kitchen towel down hard on the spillage until it comes away relatively dry. Then I clean the carpet and repeat the process.
Also use it with antibac spray for cleaning inside of the bins.
Also use it for drying the cats food bowl - more hygenic than a tea towel.
Also with glass cleaner to clean the windows.
Also along the back of the kitchen sink to mop up wet bits that I can't see.
Wow I use kitchen towel a lot!

forkhandles4candles · 06/04/2016 17:55

Every single day I have a roll on me. DD is dyspraxic and still at ten a messy eater. Just need some kitchen roll to keep things neat. But that is not in the kitchen. In the kitchen, they are used constantly to mop up the endless spills on the table.

chanice · 06/04/2016 18:43
