We all know that the kitchen can be a bit chaotic at times. Spills, splashes and stains can leave your kitchen looking a little worse for wear. The team at Thirst Pockets wants to know when have kitchen rolls/towels been your kitchen saviour?

Here’s what they say “Here at Thirst Pockets HQ we endeavour to make our kitchen towel as absorbent as we can to help tackle all those household spills! We are super proud of our new look range featuring Original Thirst Pockets, Our beautiful 'I love my Kitchen' decorated version, Multicloth that's amazingly versatile for cleaning windows & mirrors, leaving a streak free finish and most recently Thirst Pockets Extra Long with the same super absorbency as original but with twice as many sheets ... super absorbency goes on & on.”

So when have kitchen rolls been your kitchen lifesaver? Have they saved your DC from skidding on a water spill on the floor? Perhaps they’ve spared you a heart attack by soaking up a gallon of oil and grease from your chips and roasties? Or maybe they just take the hassle out of cleaning regular towels? However your kitchen roll has been your kitchen lifesaver, Thirst Pockets would love to know.

Everyone who posts on this thread will be entered into a prize draw where one lucky Mumsnetter will win a £300 Love2Shop voucher.

Mopping up red wine spills!! Particularly on wooden work surface which stains easily.

SmallBee · 08/04/2016 07:36

Aside from soaking up all the regular toddler spillage emergencys it is really great for getting extra greasy off of my food before I serve it.
I lay a couple of sheets flat and tip out the contents of the frying pan on to it. It soaks up the extra grease before the food goes on the plate which makes it look and taste better and is much much healthier!

For getting up dried on wheatabix (do not leave it until after the school run). Spray on kitchen cleaner, put kitchen roll on top, go off to MN do something else for a bit then just wipe away. Spraying alone and leaving it doesn't seem to work.

cant live without it, from mopping up spills to everyday cleaning tasks its a must not run out of product

FreshsatsumaforDd · 08/04/2016 13:04

Clearing up a bottle of nail varnish remover which add had left with the lid just sitting loosely on the top. Of course I managed to knock it over when I picked it up by the lid to tidy it away. Disaster, but helped greatly by using kitchen towel to mop up the fast spreading liquid.

I use a roll when drying windows outside after washing them. Streak free and so much cheaper than hiring a window cleaner. I use kitchen roll a lot for drying and clearing up stuff. It's a staple in my house. My mother and mother in law just seem to be able to live without it completely. Maybe that's a generational thing Confused

Whin I fry food ,Thirst Pockets are the VERY BEST for absorbing and draining any excess fat, ideal for healthy eating , and always soo handy for any breakages or spills!

Birnamwood · 08/04/2016 18:32

Erm, when a dog or a child has had an 'accident' Blush

MsMims · 08/04/2016 18:52

Getting muddy pawprints off the walls, edge of the worktops etc!

kierie · 08/04/2016 19:14

Baby's just pooed on the bathroom floor (who thought 3 seconds of nappy off time would be a good idea?) Luckily, we keep a roll of kitchen paper upstairs for just such an emergency (followed by a squirt of bleach and a trip to the outside bin of course!)

AnonymousBird · 08/04/2016 19:23

It's gross, sorry, but kitchen towel roll is the only possible solution to clearing up when the dog has eaten too much grass and is sick!! It's been a saviour many times. Perish the thought of running out....

twoboots1 · 08/04/2016 20:33

in teaching my daughter to bake, she cleans up afterherself, especially eggs

CointreauVersial · 08/04/2016 20:47

The drains here are terrible, and block up if I let any grease go down the sink. So I always soak up the grease on grill pans and frying pans with kitchen roll before I wash up.

Not a life-saver, but has saved me from stinky blocked drains and expensive drainage contractors!

pukkapine · 08/04/2016 21:18

oooh so many uses... potty training... pet training... dinner knock-overs (happen regularly in this family)... good rests for craft/supergluing... absorbing fat from roasties or churros... so many uses that I would literally be lost if I didn't have kitchen roll

DingleberryFinn · 08/04/2016 22:21

Great for making a hot compress for spots!!

paxillin · 09/04/2016 00:57

They are a great boredom killer. The youngest likes to colour in the bumpy pattern on kitchen roll.

ILikeBigBumpsAndICannotLie · 09/04/2016 07:09

I had a pile of them pre ripped up for under the newborn when changing her as she was very fond of an open air wee. Essential for toddlers as they learn to eat, drink from cups, especially as they are always wanting to help wipe things up. Anything really that you don't want on a kitchen cloth, you do go through a lot of it with children.

timeforabrewnow · 09/04/2016 09:13

Gross I know - but for cleaning cat/dog messes of any variety, paper towels are easiest to dispose of in the house

tangledyarn · 09/04/2016 09:24

I never really bothered with kitchen roll until I had cats. Now it's used all the time..to mop up spills, dry the litter tray, wipe remains of food off dishes before washes. I've even been known to give the cats a little drying off when it's been raining!

I was extremely thankful for Thirst Pockets on Christmas Day last year, clearing up after a dog who had eaten Jelly Tots. But the less said about the details of that incident the better...

NorbertDentressangle · 09/04/2016 12:04

When DS was a toddler we were sitting together on the sofa and, without any warning, he was sick......into my hands which I had quickly whisked underneath without thinking when I realised what was happening.

Problem was, that left me with hands full of vomit and not a lot I could do. I shouted to DD (who must have been about 5 at the time) to bring me some kitchen roll, expecting her to bring the roll in but she brought me one square!

It's times like that when you need super-absorbent kitchen roll!

BathshebaDarkstone · 09/04/2016 15:49

I used loads when the DC had a vomiting bug recently.

RubyGoat · 09/04/2016 17:49

Well, potty training, obviously.

There was also the time that DH opened a magnum sized bottle of sparkling wine we'd got as a wedding present. For some inexplicable reason, the cork shot off down the garden (thankfully I'd persuaded DH to open it by the back door), & the wine fountained up, hit the ceiling, & liberally showered him. Many, many paper towels were used. The garden shed smelled of wine for about a week, & the cork was apparently launched into orbit, as we never did find it.

Thankfully, we only lost about 2 glasses worth.

Lyn29 · 09/04/2016 17:55

When I I was potty training my daughter I went through LOADS!!! Started potty training my daughter at 2 years and 1 month and she wasnt clean until 3 years and 1 month so you can imagine how much kitchen roll was used. Thank god for laminate flooring! If we didnt have any in the house I used to get a panic on. I also had to get some when she weed in the pound shop and pets at home!! Luckily staff were very understanding.

redheadandgoingtobed · 09/04/2016 20:18

Kitchen towel is great when DD knocks over her juice or milk all over the floor. And no, she is not a toddler, she is 13 ffs. Hmm
