We all know that the kitchen can be a bit chaotic at times. Spills, splashes and stains can leave your kitchen looking a little worse for wear. The team at Thirst Pockets wants to know when have kitchen rolls/towels been your kitchen saviour?

Here’s what they say “Here at Thirst Pockets HQ we endeavour to make our kitchen towel as absorbent as we can to help tackle all those household spills! We are super proud of our new look range featuring Original Thirst Pockets, Our beautiful 'I love my Kitchen' decorated version, Multicloth that's amazingly versatile for cleaning windows & mirrors, leaving a streak free finish and most recently Thirst Pockets Extra Long with the same super absorbency as original but with twice as many sheets ... super absorbency goes on & on.”

So when have kitchen rolls been your kitchen lifesaver? Have they saved your DC from skidding on a water spill on the floor? Perhaps they’ve spared you a heart attack by soaking up a gallon of oil and grease from your chips and roasties? Or maybe they just take the hassle out of cleaning regular towels? However your kitchen roll has been your kitchen lifesaver, Thirst Pockets would love to know.

Everyone who posts on this thread will be entered into a prize draw where one lucky Mumsnetter will win a £300 Love2Shop voucher.

BurstMyBubbles · 04/04/2016 20:18

Lap mats for picnics that you can use at the end for fingers and faces.

Always use it for cleaning the Windows, and greasy cooker hoods where the cloth would never get clean again.

And 😈 scooping up deposits from either end of small children and animals. Many times..

Kitchen roll was invaluable following an incident with the dc the other week.

Dh and I were cooking, dc were quietly (alarm bells) playing upstairs, suddenly water started coming through the ceiling, kitchen roll dispensed and used to quickly soak up the water on the now slippy floor, also used to blot the ceiling to stop water marks, then used to clean up the bathroom, where dc had somehow managed to knock the waste pipe out of line on the sink. Then used to mop up everyone's tears including mine.

I broke and spilled a bottle of balsamic vinegar all over the kitchen floor, it reeked but kitchen roll soaked it up whilst I wept.

RavioliOnToast · 04/04/2016 21:04

When I was pregnant with dd2, I used to fold 3 pieces of it and put it on my tummy over my clothes when I was doing the dishes because my bump stuck out so much I would get absolutely soaked! This absorbed a lot of the water!!

I recently tried making my own solid air fresheners with baking soda and laundry scent beads, and kitchen roll was a lifesaver.

First, I tried moving the silicone molds with liquid in - forgot it would sag in the middle, queue a river of viscous hot lava over the kitchen counter. Quick wipe with the roll and gone.
Then I realised as the spill dried, that baking soda leaves behind a white residue. Cleaned up again with bleach spray and kitchen roll.
Thirdly, did you know laundry scent beads leave a greasy film ON EVERYTHING? No, neither did I.

My hands, my sink, and my jug all got plunged in hot water. If I'd had to then wash out a kitchen cloth, I'd have been even more cross than I was.

Last but not least, the silicone mould had a leak. Come the morning, I was faced with even more kitchen roll-wiping.

The best bit? The air fresheners didn't even SET.

My grey bin smells lovely though.

Humm, the time I dropped a (full) 1litre bottle of lovingly home made chilli oil on the (tiled) kitchen floor. Soaked up the oil, scooped up the broken glass, mopped up my tears of frustration...

isitginoclock · 04/04/2016 21:18

We put some at the bottom of the kitchen bin with some essential oil on. Soaks up any nasty leaks and makes it smell nice

PaulineFowlersGrowler · 04/04/2016 21:34

Everyday! I go through about a roll a day thanks to my lovely twins who get more food on the floor, walls and ceiling than they do in their mouths!

Whyisitsodifficult · 04/04/2016 21:37

Carpets and toilet training, need I say more! Very absorbent gets the job done!

Dolallytats · 04/04/2016 21:40

Kitchen roll makes life easier every day when the kids spill their drinks. It doesn't matter what cup they use or what the drink is, at some point every day there will be a spillage!

I have an elderly border collie, who has demonstrated a cast-iron constitution for the many years we've had her. She'll eat just about anything. Various meal leftovers, sheep shit, peelings from carrots, horse shit, half-burnt coal, cattle shit... (can you tell we live on a farm?) Nothing phases her, she's never even off colour. Bounces around like a spring puppy, even at 16.

Until two nights ago, when the meal leftovers were a readymeal chicken korma.

She's had the skitters ever since, though they seem to be passing now. Kitchen roll has been an absolute godsend.

And on the upside, my kitchen floor has never been cleaner. Grin

AnnieWall27 · 04/04/2016 21:58

We have three babies and two doggies....and a garden full of mud. We use kitchen roll for everything - dirty mouths full of soil and bugs, muddy paws, smelly wellies, snottery snouts. The list could go on and on. I always take kitchen roll in my changing bag, in my dog walking bag, my handbag, my pockets, my car, there will always be food to wipe away and grubby hands to clean.

CheeseEMouse · 04/04/2016 22:06

To mop the glass of red wine I had managed to throw all over the sofa the other day. A bit of a waste of wine really..

Secretescape · 04/04/2016 23:17

I use it for spills and for cleaning much like everyone else.
Also to line a bag for dd in case she's travel sick
To line the colander I store potatoes in
To place between lids/ saucepans when stacking them
To wrap ornaments eg christmas or to wrap breakable items for posting
Has been used as a temporary bandage
When cleaning bottles for our DTs we used to drain onto fresh kitchen towel from the cold water steriliser then I'd use that paper towel with steriliser water to clean bathroom or kitchen and floors etc

afromom · 04/04/2016 23:18

DS (nearly 12!) sits with a roll of kitchen paper next to him for most meal times! Whether it's spag Bol, chicken legs, corn on the cob, burritos, he ends up covered in food- fingers and face. I'm not sure where my parenting around table manners went wrong, but without kitchen roll to mop himself up he'd need a bib!

SnuffleGruntSnorter · 05/04/2016 00:41

Today I've used kitchen towel to clean up after two baby meals, to clean the dogs paw before applying medication, to clean the Windows and to blow my nose! Wonderful stuff!

Obs2016 · 05/04/2016 08:02

I use thirst pockets all the time. None of the other brands compare - all the others are limp and poor quality and do not suck up as much liquid.
I use them in the kitchen all the time, for mopping up spills, wiping Surfaces, draining fat from spag Bol etc. Wiping up drips on floor.
We have a tube on the dining room table aswell. The kids use them at dinner to mop up, wipe mouths, all sorts.

I wrap food in it, take on picnics, I couldn't list all the things I do with them. So very handy.

WowOoo · 05/04/2016 08:29

I use a fair bit of kitchen roll. It's great for mucky jobs where you'd rather not wash a cloth - bolognese, oil and eggs.
I also use it in the fridge to line drawers as it soaks up moisture. I change them often.

I like the idea about putting it in the bottom of the bin with essential oil. I do this, but without the essential oil. I'm going to try it.

2016ismyyear · 05/04/2016 08:41

We've had a cat spraying so simple solution and kitchen roll has been used alot recently.
I also regularly use kitchen roll wen cracking eyes to put shells on.

Toria2014 · 05/04/2016 08:51

I cannot live without kitchen roll, I use loads of it on a daily basis. In a household with cats, dogs, a toddler and a husband, there is seldom a moment where the kitchen roll isn't being whipped out to clean up something! I even use it to light the logburner in winter.

I get slightly panicky if I am down the last roll. Shock

Sairelou · 05/04/2016 09:09

We have been potty training recently so have been using lots of kitchen roll for mopping up puddles!

WonkyZonkey · 05/04/2016 11:13

Always wrap herbs in kitchen roll before putting in the fridge. Makes them last so much longer!

gggg1 · 05/04/2016 12:10

My 8 month old loves his food but recently has started grabbing the bowl from me. Over the past 24 hours I have had to clean up spaghetti bolognese, porridge and egg from the floor so kitchen roll has been my saviour! Its also great for wiping the high chair over with disinfectant.

FeelingSmurfy · 05/04/2016 12:49

I struggle with my grip so I have kitchen roll in various rooms upstairs and downstairs to deal with the inevitable mess I make. Drinks, food, makeup, toothpaste...
