We all know that the kitchen can be a bit chaotic at times. Spills, splashes and stains can leave your kitchen looking a little worse for wear. The team at Thirst Pockets wants to know when have kitchen rolls/towels been your kitchen saviour?

Here’s what they say “Here at Thirst Pockets HQ we endeavour to make our kitchen towel as absorbent as we can to help tackle all those household spills! We are super proud of our new look range featuring Original Thirst Pockets, Our beautiful 'I love my Kitchen' decorated version, Multicloth that's amazingly versatile for cleaning windows & mirrors, leaving a streak free finish and most recently Thirst Pockets Extra Long with the same super absorbency as original but with twice as many sheets ... super absorbency goes on & on.”

So when have kitchen rolls been your kitchen lifesaver? Have they saved your DC from skidding on a water spill on the floor? Perhaps they’ve spared you a heart attack by soaking up a gallon of oil and grease from your chips and roasties? Or maybe they just take the hassle out of cleaning regular towels? However your kitchen roll has been your kitchen lifesaver, Thirst Pockets would love to know.

Everyone who posts on this thread will be entered into a prize draw where one lucky Mumsnetter will win a £300 Love2Shop voucher.

I use kitchen roll so much in this house -I couldn't be without it.

Mopping up spills on the floor, cleaning kitchen surfaces , messy hands at meal times ,folding up as a napkin in my children's pack lunches. My 4 year old daughter is always waiting for the cardboard centre-we currently have kitchen roll telescopes, marble runs and microphones in our house :)

smoothieooo · 05/04/2016 13:02

Cat vomit and wet cat food mess literally couldn't be cleaned up without kitchen roll!

I also use it to soak up grease from oven pans so that it doesn't have to go down the sink.

I use a fair bit on a daily basis!
Yesterday it was used for cleaning up a cracked egg (how much yolk can 1 egg have?!), mopping up milk that DD has spilt on the kitchen floor, and blowing my nose (it was closer than the tissues!).
Today so far it's been used to wipe up spilt orange juice - and I'm sure it will be used again before the days out!

As a childminder I go through rolls and rolls of kitchen paper. It's our go to paper of choice with so many uses!

*Mopping up accidents and spillages

  • used as a collage material
  • placed in a bag with some seeds to grow
  • drying little hands
  • wiping little noses
  • drying fruit and veg after washing

These are just a few uses in my busy home

Have always kept a roll at nappy changing table to dry up DD bottom since birth after cleaning her up. Also keep a roll in car to her travel sickness

Elliecherry · 05/04/2016 13:34

We use it for so much. We use it with disinfectant to wipe surfaces a lot, it saves having dirty dish cloths around. Also any spills are mopped up with them as its quicker and easier than washing towels.

Every day for years when my children stopped needing lidded cups. "Drink that before it gets... Oh Sad"

squashtastic · 05/04/2016 13:42

Emergency baby wipes. Enough said.

Fizzyboo · 05/04/2016 14:32

I used this earlier to pad out the back of a box frame! Did the trick perfectly! Not your usual use granted! But just the ticket!

Pringlesandwine · 05/04/2016 15:13

For my daughter's projectile vomit at the weekend!!

FelixFelix · 05/04/2016 15:17

I love kitchen roll! I use it constantly for everything. It's so much better than using a cloth etc. as it's just very convenient.

I'm super clumsy and recently managed to knock over two drinks one after another. Kitchen roll to the rescue!

Ratbagcatbag · 05/04/2016 15:28

It was useful when Dd bumped her head the other day and blood was everywhere. Useful for stemming it (it was in her hair) and wiping up the resulting mess

A more unusual one. I have a snake, my snake has issues shedding properly, as the kitchen towel is slightly rough, when soaked in water and wrapped around said snake it helps when he wriggles through it, it helps remove some of the skin that hasn't been removed properly.

I do use it for normal none bloody/snakey activities too, wiping work surfaces, cleaning in the oven and fridge. Mopping up my dd's mess.

Kitchen roll is great for mopping up spills and with my toddler there is a lot of spillage, especially milk on the breakfast table. I now leave a roll on the table and have trained my son to use it himself when he inevitably sends his drink flying. My partner is less well trained!

rupert23 · 05/04/2016 16:40

Kitchen roll is used for lots of things in our busy house with four kids still at home. they use it for all the usual kitchen things and cleaning mud off the shoes and rugby boots.Use it as tissue ,extra bedding for the hamster lots of uses cant be without it.

BadlyWrittenPoem · 05/04/2016 16:40

When DD dropped a basket of eggs on the floor between the freezer and the sideboard. I formed a protective barrier with a length of kitchen roll to stop them spreading while I cleaned up.

megrunning · 05/04/2016 16:56

Our 1 year old gave us the kitchen roll then led us to the kitchen where he'd just emptied the egg basket- 5 eggs broken on the floor/ table/ chair/ wall. (The sixth somehow survived the fall)

Roseformeplease · 05/04/2016 17:01

I suffer from allergies quite badly and kitchen roll is my saviour. I damp dust with it - no chemicals and can throw the dust away. I use it to pick up, wipe, or grab anything that I can't touch. The fact that I don't have to keep putting gloves on and off (and even some gloves are not good) means that I can have a relatively normal time in the kitchen - not constantly getting someone else to help in case my hands touch something. I use it outside the kitchen too. We use it for layers in a tin when putting a layer of cake onto another (DD bakes a lot for charity and fun). It is also our napkin or choice (I do have posh ones but they need washing and ironing).

ilovesprouts · 05/04/2016 17:16

I use it lots from kids bleeding noses to dog wee on the floor Shock

Mummylin · 05/04/2016 18:01

I use it for cleaning windows, cleaning down my kitchen work tops, I use a lot when I have a cold and need to blow my nose, wiping up spills on my coffee tables, I put it at the bottom of a dish when I have cooked chips so the fat drains off, oh just so many things, it's one of my most essential kitchen aides. I have also used it to block up a window that had a terrible draught !

MimsyBorogroves · 05/04/2016 18:08

Leaky, old dog. Nuff said.

fridaykitten · 05/04/2016 18:29

When i end up with egg over the hob when i crack them straight into the pan, always use kitchen roll to clean up the gloopy egg before cooking - no horrible burnt on egg hob for me!

mumsbe · 05/04/2016 18:36

Kitchen roll was just what I needed for the children's snotty nose and when I ran out of wipes for my childs bottom. The kitchen wipes are also on hand for the puddles left from potty training.

finova · 05/04/2016 19:06

Perfect for regreasing the pan between pancakes.
Also for greasing cake tins.
Have used to wrap eggs in lunch boxes- (childminder boils for us!)
For BBQs eg corn and the cob and ribs- to hold and clean messy fingers

Kirjava · 05/04/2016 19:11

When my husband dropped an open, full tin of paint in our kitchen!
