We all know that the kitchen can be a bit chaotic at times. Spills, splashes and stains can leave your kitchen looking a little worse for wear. The team at Thirst Pockets wants to know when have kitchen rolls/towels been your kitchen saviour?

Here’s what they say “Here at Thirst Pockets HQ we endeavour to make our kitchen towel as absorbent as we can to help tackle all those household spills! We are super proud of our new look range featuring Original Thirst Pockets, Our beautiful 'I love my Kitchen' decorated version, Multicloth that's amazingly versatile for cleaning windows & mirrors, leaving a streak free finish and most recently Thirst Pockets Extra Long with the same super absorbency as original but with twice as many sheets ... super absorbency goes on & on.”

So when have kitchen rolls been your kitchen lifesaver? Have they saved your DC from skidding on a water spill on the floor? Perhaps they’ve spared you a heart attack by soaking up a gallon of oil and grease from your chips and roasties? Or maybe they just take the hassle out of cleaning regular towels? However your kitchen roll has been your kitchen lifesaver, Thirst Pockets would love to know.

Everyone who posts on this thread will be entered into a prize draw where one lucky Mumsnetter will win a £300 Love2Shop voucher.

Mine is gross too, I'm afraid - picking up the remains of assorted rodents is definitely a job for (nice thick) kitchen towel.

TennesseeDays · 12/04/2016 15:51

We keep a roll of kitchen roll (in a nice holder Grin) on the dining table as well as in the kitchen - so that we don't have to go charging off into the kitchen to retrieve it after the inevitable mealtime spillage. And one of our children suffers from car sickness, so we also keep a kitchen roll in the back of the car, just in case.

I always use it to mop up spills - probably the time it has worked hardest was when someone knocked over an almost full bottle of sunflower oil all over the kitchen surfaces and floor. Most recent was this morning, when one of the children decided to water the plants a bit too enthusiastically.

I also use it to dry aubergine slices before I cook them.

I think I use it every day.

when my toddler son decided to help himself to a pint of milk from the fridge and then proceeded to the floor i used kitchen roll to mop up the massive mess not only the fridge but all across the floor too.

mo3733 · 12/04/2016 17:38

i keep one specifically in my bathroom so i can clean hygienically without transferring germs around the bathroom

rhinosuze · 12/04/2016 17:50

When my daughter knocks drinks over, it absorbs so much better than towels plus you can just throw it away

RicardoSilva · 12/04/2016 19:02

As a male cook a mess is expected and there is nothing more practical than kitchen roll. Today making some soup, when it came to blend the potatoes it just went everywere, so from the hob to the tiles, counter and floor kitchen paper towel to the rescue. The soup was delicious though :)

When my waters broke in the house! We had people coming to view the house that day as our house was on the market and we didn't want to put them off. Good job we had lots of kitchen roll! The good news was that they loved it and they put in an offer whilst I was in hospital giving birth.

I keep a kitchen roll in my baby changing bag, it's great for lying baby down on when using public changing tables rather than trying to keep her on a travel sized mat. Makes for an easy clean up afterwards too.

AuntieMaggie · 12/04/2016 21:06

I use it to clean the kitchen sides, dry the sink, mop up spills, clean the car windscreen, on picnics and in lunch boxes, clean up when ds went to the toilet on the floor, when I knocked the handle of a boiling pan of water and spilt the water everywhere but I think the best use of it was definitely to pat myself dry when going to the toilet after having ds as it didn't stick to my stitches Blush probably not what they envisaged it being used for!

I keep paper towels in my draw at work for the inevitable coffee spill that happens at least once a week.

Moogdroog · 12/04/2016 22:29

Well, they're very often a complete life saver, but in slightly more unusual uses, I use them to wick up extra water which would have turned dinner into a soggy mess... For example, if I've gone and plonked some spinach on top of some pastry and it's decided to hemmorage water. Kitchen towels to the rescue - just leave one touching the soggy mess and it soaks it all up. Hooray!

Bsummers · 12/04/2016 22:53

I reheated some tea in the microwave, 50 seconds in and the tea was boiling and it went everywhere, I grabbed my kitchen towels and they were a life saver . With a dish cloth it would have take ages, but I let the paper towels soak up the liquid and it took about a minute to clean it.

claza93 · 13/04/2016 06:56

Always in use in our house! Especially when the kids scooter into the dogs water bowl and send the contents flying! Daily occurrence lol x

walafel · 13/04/2016 09:36

I love kitchen roll for everything - to clean surfaces, floors, little hands. I use it as an alternative to a plate sometimes when eating toast or fruit. It sometimes feels less environmentally friendly than a washable cloth or a plate, but its definitely more convenient.

I emptied the kitchen bin one morning while rushing to get to work. I didn't spot that there was a small rip in the bag so ended up with the rubbish dripping on the floor as I took it to the front door. I ended up being late for work as I had to clear up....
So, now I have put a couple of sheets of kitchen roll in the bottom of the bin.
Now, I just lift the full bin bag up and check the kitchen roll - if it's clean I know the bin bag is intact !!
No more messy floors!!

My boys now pour out their own cereal in the morning, kitchen towels are a godsend at mopping up all the milk drips and spills that always seem to occur.

bella4560 · 13/04/2016 10:09

Use it for everything with two messy boys! Usually spills

NerrSnerr · 13/04/2016 14:28

Our daughter likes to empty the contents of her sippy cups all over her high chair as soon as I turn by back. That is where I use most of my kitchen roll!

badgermum · 13/04/2016 14:52

Kitchen towels were my lifesaver when my 9 year old dropped a nearly full 4 Pinter milk bottle on the kitchen floor just as we were neading to leave for work and school, The towels absorbed the milk and cleaned the floor in no time

ha2el · 13/04/2016 17:09

When I was very upset and got rid of my pent up energy by throwing a very large bottle of fabric conditioner from the kitchen onto the hallway laminate flooring. I used a whole roll up on soaking the mess up.The smell of concentrated fabric conditioner in large quantities is not very nice.

loopylou1984 · 13/04/2016 20:47

Life saver when trying to house train our puppy! Any unfortunate puddles were soaked up quickly!

Eva50 · 13/04/2016 21:41

It's great for soaking up the little doggie accidents. Our dog rarely has a mishap but the little one we are looking after for our friends needs a nappy! I am going through the kitchen roll at speed.

chewbecca47 · 13/04/2016 21:55

Thirst Pockets have been indispensable since welcoming our new puppy Luna to the family! A standard kitchen roll just isn't up to the task of cleaning up doggy's little accidents. We need something stronger, durable, more absorbent, especially for carpet accidents. Thirst Pockets fit the bill, where others fell short!

rainbowvalley · 14/04/2016 00:28

Kitchen roll is so versatile I use it on camping trips, aswell as round the home it hasn't saved my life yet but it has certainly saved me from a few mishaps!

aristocat · 14/04/2016 10:51

Kitchen Roll is essential if you have small pets, I have used it for hamster bedding, cleaning up cat sick and wet cat food.
Always taken on picnics and for wiping grease from roasting tins.

Every home needs it!
