These days, parenting tips are available from a wealth of sources and sometimes it can be tricky to know who to listen to. The team at Nurofen for Children would love to hear who you turn to for the best parenting advice and why you trust or listen to them most of all.

Here's what Nurofen for Children says,"Being a parent is a wonderful life changing experience, full of challenges and triumphs at every stage. We understand seeking advice from a variety of sources is an important part of feeling confident in the decisions you make for your children, so we’d love to hear who you turn to for advice (and the reasons you love the tips they give)".

So please share on this thread your best sources of advice: whether it's a trusted friend who has been there and done that, your own mum, your health visitor, a magazine or blog, the content pages or talk boards on MN Wink etc. They'd also like to know why you love that source of advice so much - perhaps you could share the best advice you've been given and why it worked for you.

Everyone who posts on this thread will be entered into a prize draw where one mumsnetter will win a £300 Love2Shop voucher!

Thanks

MNHQ

I go to my sister in law for parenting advice, she has three children and she does a lot of research on bringing up children, due to her job. All three of her children are very well behaved, she gives me the best parenting advice which I've tried and tested myself and they work best for me everytime.

Mumsnet as there is so much great advice on here or my mum because she knows best :)

strawberrisc · 13/02/2016 12:40

I turn to a variety of specialists, professionals and family. When I nearly gave up on breastfeeding during night feeds I had telephone numbers of people I could call to spurn me on as well as a local breastfeeding group to go to during the day. When my daughter couldn't sleep my mother suggested the old-fashioned method of swaddling which instantly relaxed her and she slept so well. Finally, good old gut-instinct. Listen to advice but then apply to your own child what you think works best for them.

Sadly my mum is no longer alive so I turn to Mumsneg for advice

mooota1514 · 13/02/2016 13:18

Mum or grand because they are more experience than i am plus they have a wealth of wisdom when it comes to kids! To prove it? All of us nine kids turned out alright i guesswink

fletcher992 · 13/02/2016 13:20

I usually ask advice on forums for mums and see what seems to be the common advice or at playgroups. for medical advice I always ask the nurse or doctor to be on safe side. everyone has advice on how to bring up kids but not all works for everyone

glennamy · 13/02/2016 13:21

We turn to good friends & family who are either ahead of us family wise / have experience!

prwilson · 13/02/2016 13:33

My parents - they've seen it all and done it all, and they're unflappable.

shroney · 13/02/2016 13:37

my mum as she used to be a childminder for many years and is a wealth of good advise and experience.

nettymay · 13/02/2016 13:54

In the past I've asked my parents, my MIL, and the internet for advice. I've found the most helpful advice being on Mumsnet and from my parents. I think it's more useful because the advice is from people who have 'been there and done that'. I often check the internet if there's something I'm worried about. The best advice I ever got was to trust my instincts, if I feel like something is wrong I trust myself and take the kids to the doctors.

amyhalliday1 · 13/02/2016 16:00

My mum X she's amazing and practical

markbarlow68 · 13/02/2016 16:00

I always refer to the GP for medical advice, but find MN invaluable for most other matters

happysouls · 13/02/2016 16:05

I like to read about things on the internet, Mumsnet and other forums. As with most things I want to find out about I like to read various different opinions and then try to make my own judgement call!

ThemisA · 13/02/2016 16:17

My Mum, sites like Mumsnet, friends and my own instinct and logic.

alicew91 · 13/02/2016 16:18

Mainly other mummy friends. Or websites such as mumsnet or netmums where it's real mums posting real experience not just from a book :)
