We’ve been asked by Sheilas' Wheels to find out what Mumsnetters want from their Home Insurance policy.

They say "we appreciate that Home insurance isn't something you think about every day, however, should you need it you want to know everything is covered."

So, is it better cover levels that you look for? Perhaps it’s more confidence in your provider's service or maybe something to keep your family safe when you take out a policy?

Whatever you’d like from your Home Insurance policy, Sheilas' Wheels would like to hear them.

Everyone who posts on this thread will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 Love2Shop voucher.

Thanks,

I really want an easy to understand Policy that rewards Loyalty and doesn't increase you policy by £100's at point of renewal. I also want new for old on some items and a company that does not insist on receipts for everything in your house in the event of a claim - some things will just not have a receipt for? I find Insurance one of the worst renewals to have to make - so stressful and unpleasant when all you want to do is protect yourself an the investment you have!

Had home insurance since i was in my early twenties - im 44 now and never claimed, but heard some awful stories of insurance not wanting to pay out - i think what is important to me is that should the bad things ever happen that my insurance company will actually pay out and not try to wriggle out of it!

UK Call Centre
Clear terms
Low Excess
Peace of mind

lindseystuart85 · 26/12/2015 16:27

I would really like a easy to use home insurance service with customer service that can understand English
Low excess fees and a loyalty reward be brilliant too
I would expect there to be a call back option if I had to wait more than 10 minutes on the phone
Too many times I have been on hold for over 40 minutes to a home insurance company.
Good customer service is very important too

swampthing1 · 26/12/2015 16:30

a quick decision

LeeR1985 · 26/12/2015 16:48

I'd like quick, easy access to a UK call centre. A decent no claims discount and affordable excess

kittykomp · 26/12/2015 16:51

good value :)

Crown · 26/12/2015 17:21

Full coverage
Low premiums
UK call centre
Policy terms in plain English

tubbss · 26/12/2015 17:25

Sensible renewal prices so you dont need to cancel then come back to the SAME insurance company as a new customer to get the best deal

strawberrisc · 26/12/2015 17:39

I would love to feel confident that whatever claim I need to make I can do and there won't be some clause in the small print that would prohibit it.

Narnianescape · 26/12/2015 17:56

Reasonable price

sarahbrokenshire · 26/12/2015 18:08

Fabulous customer service and a speedy claims process

TheProvincialLady · 26/12/2015 18:10

Uk call centre
Quotes available via comparison websites
No complicated excess charges, no hidden extras
Simple website
Everything online rather than being sent loads of paperwork
Don't try to persuade me to stay if I decide not to renew but accept my reason and close my account. I would never reinsure with one of the companies who have tried to engage me in 20 minutes justification why I am leaving, whereas I would reinsure with the company I just left who didn't.

TheProvincialLady · 26/12/2015 18:10

Oh and yes - competitive renewal price as I always shop around every time and it just makes me angry to be taken for a mug

melvis · 26/12/2015 18:16

I want clear terms, a simple claim system and a standard excess.

dragon60 · 26/12/2015 18:54

good value, discount for loyalty, 'all risks' covered

RVPisnomore · 26/12/2015 19:00

I want:

  • clear pricing
  • same price whether new or existing customer
  • new for old cover
  • ability to add accidental damage
  • to be able to speak to someone who clearly speaks good English
  • the person I speak to understands the policy and can answer questions
  • no 'hidden' exclusions
  • ability to add more valuable items easily
  • clear excess
  • public liability insurance
  • easy policy in the event of a claim
  • free legal cover
  • pet cover included as standard
Funkyferret · 26/12/2015 19:28

I look for companies that are easy to contact with reasonable excesses and the ability to quickly adjust the policy if you acquire something new of value or indeed sell something that was previously included. If you do have to make a claim, I like a quick, easy process and although I know that these days you do have to be "quizzed" to try and root out fraud, I'd like a company that doesn't make you feel like a criminal while doing so! I also understand that if you've claimed that may cause your premiums to rise but not by excessive amounts please and also, not for spurious reasons that have nothing to do with you like random, one-off events in your area.

mave · 26/12/2015 19:35

No or low excess
Good call centre
Discount for loyal customers
Foolproof documents so we can all understand the terms and conditions

simmaggs · 26/12/2015 19:54

good prices fro return custom

KittyKat88 · 26/12/2015 20:28

I like to use a comparison site every year to get the best deal and often find great free ad-ons! Sheila's Wheels is my present unsurer simply because they did/do offer very competitively priced innsurance, plus I got emergency cover for free as a new customer! So, for me it's price first, then who can offer the best 'extras'.

freefan · 26/12/2015 20:35

I would love a uk call centre, staff who are sympathetic and friendly, a quick and easy claim system with no excess to be paid, and not inflated costs year on year.

pennwood · 26/12/2015 20:45

Competitive prices where loyalty counts & not a keen price just for new customers.
Low excess.
Sensible understandable information without lots of small print on the policy.
Reliable cover for properties on/near flood plains at a reasonable price & not hiked sky high if/when they have a problem.

merlymerly · 26/12/2015 21:08

Lower renewal premiums for loyal customers (instead of having to do a price comparison every year)

fazkin · 26/12/2015 21:35
  1. Uk call centre
  2. Discounts on home burglar alarms and CCTV
  3. Help with post burglary events
