We’ve been asked by Sheilas' Wheels to find out what Mumsnetters want from their Home Insurance policy.

They say "we appreciate that Home insurance isn't something you think about every day, however, should you need it you want to know everything is covered."

So, is it better cover levels that you look for? Perhaps it’s more confidence in your provider's service or maybe something to keep your family safe when you take out a policy?

I have had nothing but stress when trying to claim through my home insurance :-(
My daughter accidentally knocked a tin of paint left in a daft place near the top of the stairs (thank god she wasn't hurt!) it went everywhere, all over brand new carpet, my husbands new leather coat and his glasses and spoiled lot of stuff. But it was a nightmare trying to claim for anything! We gave up in the end and lost out massively. It made me very down as we had saved so hard for it all, and made me feel like insurance was pointless!

I would love things to be made clearer,
No claims discount.
Low excess.
Not being treated like you're out to scam people! x

Not to be made to feel like I have done something wrong. Too many questions.. there are SOME honest home owners!

I would like the claim to be dealt with swiftly, not have to wait 3-4 weeks for an assessor to call which is what happened when my sons trampoline shattered the back door and kitchen window during gales.
I would like to see no-claims bonuses, and for people to be more aware about the differences in premiums from different providers. I was paying almost £120 a month to the Halifax, I now pay £35 a month for the same cover with a different provider.

I'd like a decent honest price most of all.
I'd like customer loyalty, rather than giving new customers cheaper quotes loyal customers should get them.
I change insurance companies every year as I always get a lot higher renewal price than I get on comparison sites. I don't phone my insurance company to get a better deal as they should have been honest enough to give me their best price to start with, not just when I choose to cancel.

A company that pays out quickly and makes claiming easy, as well as being reasonably priced.

Good price and good cover that pays out fast when needed.

I would like a no claims discount and loyalty discount. An easy to understand policy that has no get out clauses for the insurance company not to pay. Potentially a set amount that you can claim every year before it causes your insurance to go through the roof
