We’ve been asked by Sheilas' Wheels to find out what Mumsnetters want from their Home Insurance policy.

They say "we appreciate that Home insurance isn't something you think about every day, however, should you need it you want to know everything is covered."

So, is it better cover levels that you look for? Perhaps it’s more confidence in your provider's service or maybe something to keep your family safe when you take out a policy?

Whatever you’d like from your Home Insurance policy, Sheilas' Wheels would like to hear them.

Everyone who posts on this thread will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 Love2Shop voucher.

Thanks,
MNHQ

I want a very simple easy to complete template - per room, over all value plus items over £X value plus a handbag, bike, etc tick box.

arat · 04/01/2016 20:58

Same as for car insurance - loyalty and best prices for existing customers at renewal date. With the most insurers, there are much better deals available to new customers so it's madness not to switch each year!

AnneElliott · 04/01/2016 21:01

Definitely a straight forward claims process which is administered quickly and efficiently.

Best prices offered to loyal customers.

bettythebuilder · 04/01/2016 21:06

Good cover level, good price, low excess. If I had to make a claim I'd want it dealt with quickly and efficiently.
I like a paper copy of the policy, which I like to be easy to understand!
I don't want automatic renewal, and if I do renew the policy I don't want the price to go up dramatically after I've been with the company for a couple of years, which seems to happen all the time.

emmfurn · 04/01/2016 22:59

To know in black and white what is covered and when. To be able to talk to a claims person in this country if needed. No claims discount and loyalty rewards.

LinnyBee · 05/01/2016 13:08

Low excess
Easy claims procedure
Competitive price
No automatic renewal
Clear and concise terms and conditions
Great customer service
Peace of mind

It always seems to take so long to change suppliers for home insurance, it's no wonder many people automatically renew!

mynellie · 05/01/2016 15:34

what we want is a no nonsense person to talk to in the uk and assessors to act quickly and even a flood alert text/email/phonecall would be great as then if you are in a flood area they can help you/themselves by warning you and getting your pieces out of the way

Ethan260908 · 05/01/2016 16:55

In no particular order. A simply NCB like on car insurance. Local or free phone numbers and finally keep it simple. I don't want to be paying for other's people's issues

windowmouse · 05/01/2016 18:19

Easy and fast to make a claim. Clear wording in the policy and good value.

clarem100 · 05/01/2016 20:16

something that is easy to understand with no nasty hidden surprises

WheresTheCoffee · 05/01/2016 20:37

Loyalty discount
UK call centre
Don't hike the premium for auto renewal

surgeoner · 05/01/2016 21:06

A No Claims Discount would be a great incentive to take out a policy

Annbunce · 06/01/2016 10:33

Best possible price, fair excess and excellent customer service and care

jodiecrossley1 · 06/01/2016 15:11

simple wording and fair prices!

melski1989 · 06/01/2016 16:08

Easy to understand terms and conditions that don't waffle on and on!

justgina · 06/01/2016 20:07

I'd like claiming to be as straightforward as possible! It's horrible when you have to jump through hoops when you're stressed anyway!

katieskatie82 · 07/01/2016 00:25

cheap monthly payments and straight forward procedure for claimants

Bechoole · 07/01/2016 16:52

Very clear information on what is and isn't included

Cintacmrs123 · 07/01/2016 19:10

the confidence to know if anything went wrong I would have a dedicate person not just my name and number handed out to hundreds of contractors

wulfy1010 · 07/01/2016 20:11

Clear and easy to understand policy and quick response to claims

sarah3875 · 08/01/2016 09:23

My main gripe is every year my policy renewal becomes a fair bit more expensive. Every year I land up having to shop around again to keep it down. A promise that it would remain at the same cost for a certain number of years would really encourage me to take out a policy. As a Mum of three it's one of those things that I could do without.

gp12 · 08/01/2016 10:26

Low cost

glmcall123 · 08/01/2016 13:00

Straightforward, honest pricing and a renewal price that means I don't have to trawl around comparison sites for a better deal.

myusername12345 · 08/01/2016 17:02

The best price, and the best service if it is needed without any attempts to wriggle out of paying up.
