We’ve been asked by Sheilas' Wheels to find out what Mumsnetters want from their Home Insurance policy.

They say "we appreciate that Home insurance isn't something you think about every day, however, should you need it you want to know everything is covered."

So, is it better cover levels that you look for? Perhaps it’s more confidence in your provider's service or maybe something to keep your family safe when you take out a policy?

Whatever you’d like from your Home Insurance policy, Sheilas' Wheels would like to hear them.

Everyone who posts on this thread will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 Love2Shop voucher.

Thanks,

Accidental cover included as standard

madge47 · 26/12/2015 11:04

A clear policy I can never understand whats not insured! make things simple to read.

7flipper7 · 26/12/2015 11:11

I want my no claims to be recognised and my renewal to take this into account as a valued customer rather than all the best deals going to new customers. Each year I renew with my current insurer as a new customer as it is often £200 cheaper than staying with them despite accruing several years of no claims!!! I also want accidental damage as you never know what damage the kids can cause!!

ShatnersBassoon · 26/12/2015 11:18

Loyalty should be rewarded.
More obvious definitions of what's 'building' and what's 'contents'. My kitchen cupboards were classed as part of the building when they were damaged in a leak, so I had to pay a bigger excess.
UK call centres.

hannonle · 26/12/2015 11:51

Good cover with no tricksy small print at a competitive price.

cazzzie987 · 26/12/2015 12:06

No claims protection, uk call centres, and loyalty discount.

lilmiztam22 · 26/12/2015 12:08

An easy to understand policy that puts my family at peace of mind with no big excess and cover for a wide range of incidents; all for a fair price

wjanice121 · 26/12/2015 12:13

Being able to spread the payments over the months instead of having to pay it all off at the beginning of the policy

polly555 · 26/12/2015 12:22

An easy to read policy without the gobbleyguck so that you understand exactly what is covered

iut044 · 26/12/2015 12:36

Something that is cheap and deals with problems quickly .

Cailin7 · 26/12/2015 13:29

farhanac · 26/12/2015 13:32

wooohooo · 26/12/2015 13:43

Prices that wont go up for renewals, simple understanding small print

burstlikeabubble · 26/12/2015 13:57

A clear policy that tells you what is covered and what isn't and for how much.

Also details of what will and won't happen if you are unlucky enough to claim.

jcyclops · 26/12/2015 14:29
  1. Unlimited buildings cover as standard - no need for the customer to calculate rebuilding costs and worry that the insurer may reduce a claim if it is slightly wrong (Shiela's Wheels and a few others do this)
  2. Remove all the sly "get out" clauses from the terms such as "act of god" and "civil unrest". If I pay the extra for accidental damage I want it to be all-risks.
  3. Percentage excess for smaller claims (eg. If the excess is £100 then apply an excess of 20% for all claims less than £500)
finleypop · 26/12/2015 14:33

Good customer service, especially in the upsetting event of a claim. I want to speak to someone in the UK, not a foreign call centre. I want any claims dealt with as painlessly as possible

jenniwren12 · 26/12/2015 14:49

I look for a straight forward claims process, ability to contact my insurer easily, an english speaking representative and competitive pricing

devito92 · 26/12/2015 14:54

An honest quote,UK based customer service and lower excess

bevmcomp · 26/12/2015 14:59

Not to be penalised for being a woman and stop the insurances going up every year because of the whiplash claims that people make up to get paid out on..That really gets me wound up!

mrpeterhall · 26/12/2015 15:02

A Good No Claims Discount

piggyliggy2015 · 26/12/2015 15:18

ability to manage your policy online without having to call a call centre

lhlee62 · 26/12/2015 15:24

Cheap policy but with good comprehensive cover, I would also like insurers to make it easier to claim and not haggle when I get a decent builder in to fix something.

I had a leaky shower and it caused water damage into the kitchen ceiling below. The builder came and quoted a price, the insurer asked me to haggle and get the price lower! He was a family friend and had given me a good price, so I felt bad going back to him, but luckily he agreed to go down slightly

allsorts4444 · 26/12/2015 15:31

Fair renewal cost, existing customer's should not have to pay more than new customers for the same policy with no claims made.

worldgonecrazy · 26/12/2015 15:48

UK Call Centre
Easy to read policies.
Sensible excesses.
A guide to recording those items which aren't valuable enough to be listed as single items, but come close, e.g. paintings, or designer clothes.

julieef · 26/12/2015 16:01

I would love to see lower costs for people not living in high crime areas, no risk of flooding, I know it is awful for people who have these problems, but I do not feel we should have our policies put up
