I have tired to be super organised this year. Friday night, got the boys to bed and started the mammoth task of wrapping everything I've bought so far. 5 hours later the presents are beautifully wrapped and hidden... or so I thought! Woke up Saturday morning to find our 9 week old kitten Tinker has found the stash and has unwrapped/clawed ALL of the paper off of every single present! I will try again this weekend...and find a higher hiding place!

We have huge newfoundlands. Last year we only had one and were visiting friends for a christmas party and they asked us to bring Tay because the kids love her. Needless to say the kids got her very hyper and fed her sweets. A hyper 120 pound puppy came bounding through the house chased by a load of squealing children. She realised to late she was going to bump into people tried to readjust, slid on the wood floor and collided with the tree which stood no chance. Over it went and Tay got her legs trapped in the tinsel and lights and panicked. Kept trying to get up and just got more tangled. By the time she was untangled and the tree stood up and redressed it was very wonky. Half the lights were broken, the gifts squished and half unwrapped. Everyone saw the funny side at least

This is my puppy with mashed potato all over her face. She decided while we were opening gifts that she was going to help herself to part of christmas lunch. She could only just reach the counter so we only knew what she was up to when we heard the clatter of her pulling the bowl off the counter and dumping mashed potato all over her head. Oh well we didn't want mash on the dinner anyway and as you can see from her face she was very pleased with herself.

One year when having Christmas Dinner at my parents house, my mum had pulled the turkey out of the oven to rest before carving. She asked me to be on turkey guard while she went upstairs to freshen up before serving dinner. My grandad and my children were testing out a new radio controlled car in the living room and next thing, the car had gone into a drink so there had been a spillage. I came in with a cloth to clean the mess up and when I returned to the kitchen, my mum's cat was sat on the worktop licking the turkey!!

GeorgeW78 · 14/12/2015 11:49

My cat took exception to some tinsel on the tree and yanked it off, pulling the tree over like it was the Leaning Tower of Pisa. It was the last time we had tinsel in the house! I don't even like tinsel but the OH did, lucky escape really!

mysticwen · 14/12/2015 11:50

it was about 15 years ago when our lovely retriever ben decided to help himself to the turkey i had out resting before preparing and putting in the oven, we couldnt stay cross for long, but the christmas dinner with just pigs in blankets was a little lacking in the star attraction!

Our Boxer dog Betsy ate a 2ft long strand of small gold balls. She had trouble getting them out the other end and was quite distressed as she circled the garden with it part way out! So my husband had to don his marigolds and pull it out. They both looked very relieved when it was over Grin

When I was small our spaniel opened a large Kilner jar of strawberry and champagne jam that was under the tree (God knows how) and ate the lot, closely followed by opening and eating all the sweets and chocolates. The outcome was not pretty

My new cat has an obsession with the tree (naturally) and every opportunity will try & climb in. Its a huge 8 foot tree with 200 ish lights. Because he attacks it when ever we go out we will shut the lounge door to keep him out. Well last week my husband forgot that the cat was snuggled on the sofa & shut the door trapping him in. When I go in it was like a Christmas murder scene, tinsel everywhere, one set of lights not working ( possibly a nibbling incident) and a sleepy cat on the window sill waiting for our return.... grr

Got into the kitchen on Christmas morning to find the cats on the floor playing tug of war with the Christmas ham ConfusedConfusedConfused

OnMyShoulders · 15/12/2015 10:12

Our naughty hamster escaped from her ball. Just as I noticed that the hatch was off the ball and that she had escaped, I saw her tearing across the floor under the dining table with half a chocolate digestive in her mouth that one of the kids must have dropped. RIP lovely Doris.

The year we 'lost' our bearded dragon, searched the house frantically, thinking he'd crawled under the fridge or similar and gone to sleep because he was cold.... 4 HOURS later, the tree started rustling..... the bugger had climbed up through the Christmas tree and was frantically trying to eat one of the shiny metallic snow flake decorations Xmas Grin

My cat went to the pub for a Lost Weekend.
We had to go down and find him. he staggered sheepishly out from behind a parked car

SuzCG · 16/12/2015 09:13

Our black labrador emptied the food bin overnight, while we were all asleep upstairs, on Christmas Day night - polishing off every last scrap of what had been thrown away (except the veggies, cheeky thing!).

buckley1983 · 16/12/2015 23:13

We had my parents over for Christmas one year & my Dad hates turkey! In order to accommodate him, as well as roasting a turkey - I also roasting a lovely thick chicken breast. I left this cooling on the side while I faffed about dressing the table - I heard a clattering moments later, & walked into the kitchen to find my dog vomiting up the whole chicken breast, which was still steaming - but now covered in dog spittle :( The poor little blighter was so keen to consume the meat quickly before being caught - she wolfed the whole thing, bearly getting the chance to chew it - before swallowing it on the inhale because of the heat of it! Fortunately, there was no lasting damage.. although perhaps a case of the lesson being learnt the hard way!

Spudlet · 17/12/2015 12:25

My dog managed to lock himself out of the house...

We were at my mums, with the entire family so the whole living room was taken in by huge long tables. The only way for people at the far end yo get upstairs to the loo was to go out of the back door, around the side and back in the front door.

Spud obviously decided to follow someone out - he is very stealthy when it suits him. Unfortunately for him, the front door was then shut in his face! Luckily he just sat and waited for us to notice he was missing rather than wandering off.

We have just adopted a cat. Yesterday morning he leapt up the curtains to try and reach the christmas lights around the window, at least that's what I think he was going for. A bit of a shock!

CheeseAtFourpence · 17/12/2015 21:21

Our dog ate all the reindeer food we had sprinkled on the floor and had glittery poo!

lottietiger · 18/12/2015 14:19

We had a nightmare several years ago at my (now ex-)mother in laws. We were having a pre-Christmas get together and she didn't want my Burmese mountain dogxlab in the dining room whilst we ate so shut him outside in the garden. Unfortunately the room had doors out to the garden and after pacing up and down for thirty minutes howling, he decided enough was enough and hurled himself at the patio doors. This resulted in broken doors, glass everywhere, one very unhappy mother in law and one very pleased with himself dog. Not the greatest day ive ever had.

sharond101 · 18/12/2015 19:39

We couldn't find our labrador on Christmas Day a few years ago. We looked everywhere. She was hiding from all the noise and excitement in the bath!

Eastpoint · 18/12/2015 19:56

2001 was the first year my mother hosted Christmas lunch for my family and I. We brought our dog over and she carefully shut him in the kitchen while we ate so we didn't have to worry about him eating chocolates in the sitting room or bothering anyone at the table. After a while we heard a huge crash; she'd forgotten that he could reach up onto the worktops and steal things, he got the turkey carcass - only half carved and helped himself.

Another year he polished off the chocolates from the tree on Christmas Eve and felt sorry for himself all Christmas Day, poor boy.

HannahLI · 18/12/2015 20:06

On Christmas morning when we went down into the lounge, left with all the presents by the cat was a dead, white mouse. I have no idea where she got it from and its unlikely it was roaming free as it was white. So whilst we enjoyed our lovely present, I am sure another family was wondering where there mouse was!

gin33333 · 19/12/2015 13:52

while i was putting up the christmas tree i had a santa decoration my dog lucky got hold of it and started playing with it well it was all soggy so i thought i would let her have that one wasnt too happy though as it was one of my favourite decorations to put on the tree i suppose she can have it for a christmas present

lyndseyh78 · 20/12/2015 10:16

My kitten loves to climb the Christmas tree and knock off the baubles!!! She also likes to hide in reusable bags and wait until one of the kids walks past so she can jump on them!!!
