Last year, I couldn't understand why the fairy lights suddenly stopped working on the Christmas tree. Further investigation revealed that the wire had been nibbled through by my naughty cat Lightning! We had to mend it then cover all the wires with presents to stop him doing it again.

matphil · 13/12/2015 17:51

My dog once ate the chocolates off the tree and tipped it over trying to get to the ones at the back.

I have two cats and one of them, the female, is really clever. We have to shut all doors to the kitchen if we are not around as she can open internal doors by jumping up onto the handle and although might take a few tries she always does it in the end. 2 Christmas' ago I went to bed at around 4am and was up again at 8am. When i started down the stairs i noticed empty vol au vents scattered around on some stairs and as i followed the trail there was a turkey leg, a curled up piece of ham and a spilt tub of double cream in the doorway entrance to the kitchen. it looked like someone had had a party. I'd obviously been so tired the night before i'd gone to bed forgetting to shut not only the kitchen door but also the fridge door. Cellophane had been ripped from covered tuna vol au vents and the tuna eaten. She'd dragged the cream from the fridge and must have been pulling it around the kitchen as there was a trail. Covered turkey etc. It was a mess and she looked decidedly green around the gills. I'm going to be much more careful this year lol

My dog once got on a chair to the table and ate the ham from the buffet!

turboshandy · 13/12/2015 18:34

My hamster, who we called 'Jaws' as he wasn't the friendliest of chaps, bit the arm off my Barbie doll when I was younger. Needless to say I was devastated and to make matters worse no one dared stick their fingers in the cage to rescue what was left of her arm!

Our boxer Ruby got into a kitchen cupboard and chewed a bag of christmas nuts with shells on.
We didn't think she had swallowed any as there was lots lying about but found out a few days later that she had.
A big pile of shells came up a few days later, they had been lying in her stomach not going anywhere or being digested!
Yuk!

Willow is 7 months old, I ordered some catnip toys for her Christmas box, while I was out the Postman at popped the package through the letterbox, she decided it would be fun to open up the post, she was sat looking with a little red mouse in her moth! I have forgiven her now :)

Our 1 year old pug p*ssed up against the tree this week. Including all over the wrapped presents underneath the tree.

I can't be too mad at him though - it's our own fault for trying to get him into the Christmas spirit by forcing him to wear xmas jumpers. Plus it must be pretty confusing having an outdoor tree in the living room

Mandahul · 13/12/2015 20:07

We took our kings charles spaniel, Lady Jewel of Maytree to visit my Dad and his family for Christmas just after we got her. We had only been their 10 minutes and she had sneaked into the kitch, got onto the table and started eating the Christmas Cake y Dad's wife had spent month preparing, making and decorating. I felt awful :(

sammylea80 · 13/12/2015 20:08

My cat insists on sitting in the branches of the Christmas tree, he also likes to take the baubles off one by one at 3am !

pennystextiles · 13/12/2015 20:10

My cat pulls the baubles off the tree, then leaves them at the bottom of the stairs for fun! Needless to say last Christmas I had a few painful/dangerous moment treading on them moments.. slippers required this year!!

mave · 13/12/2015 20:16

Our dog cracked open loads of nuts with his teeth when we were out one night last year. There were bits of shell all over the lounge when we returned!! I'll never leave anything edible around again!!

Kangakate · 13/12/2015 20:23

Our old dog Archie was obsessed with toys and food, we came down one Christmas morning to find that he had gone through all the presents to find his, trampling over all the others in the meantime and knocking all the decoration of the lower branches of the Xmas tree

seeingdouble2 · 13/12/2015 20:28

I was up to my eye balls preping christmas lunch. I put the turkey on the table ready to stuff and went off to peel the spuds. I turn around to grab the turkey to find my yorkie dog licking the turkey!!! Shock , horror all came to mind!! I didnt fancy the turkey after that! :)

topgunmatt · 13/12/2015 20:45

I have a 10-year-old border collie mix who guards our tree. She has been doing this since she was 10 weeks old. I think she likes the lights and does not want to share with our 5-year-old black lab mix. She lays and sleeps under the tree. No presents can go under it because she thinks they are hers...maybe she wants all the presents??????? After christmas she goes back to her old spoilt self....back to her own bed

laurapotz · 13/12/2015 20:45

My cats used to climb the Christmas tree in their younger days. I once had two up there at once.

Cailin7 · 13/12/2015 21:19

We learned last christmas (our pets 1st christmas) that budgerigars are bissums and like to chew through the lights on the tree and peck at the baubles. Our tree is safely in the conservatory this year out of harms reach

cocochips · 13/12/2015 21:23

Tickles ate all of the mince pies that were cooling down and waiting to be gifted to family and friends.

cluckyhen · 13/12/2015 21:24

The most mischeivious has to be the boys (cats and brothers) - they were up and down the tree the first year we got them....but they would then curl up in the nativity scene at the bottom and sleep so I couldn't tell them off

zippedup · 13/12/2015 21:31

Our dog found a bag of lolly pops that my son had been given..... when we returned home we found the sticks on the stairs and the wrappers upstairs on the bed.

grannybiker · 13/12/2015 21:45

Gingerbelle is rather more free-range than we intended and regularly joins us on the patio in the hope of cadging some tit-bits!

Both my young cats are fascinated by the tree. They climb to the top and knock the angel off her branch!

myboycraig · 13/12/2015 21:55

My cat is so cheeky he tries to climb the Christmas tree every year.

brightongirl40 · 13/12/2015 23:10

Our chicken Betty was a real character and would try to sneak through the back door into our kitchen. One Christmas she must have snuck past us, because we looked down by the sofa and found her sitting there watching Christmas telly with us!

katieskatie82 · 13/12/2015 23:12

our dog once ate some turkey off my ds's plate! My son was so upset! I just dont think the dog could resist the smell!
