I have a mischeivous cat - she happens to be a bengal so climbing is her raison d'etre!! We learnt our lesson last year getting a real Christmas tree which she commandered as her 'cat tree' and by Christmas day there were more pines needles on the floor than on the tree!!! Xmas Shock We have a small artificial tree this year as a result Hmm

lhlee62 · 12/12/2015 23:41

My stupid husband left a box of Celebrations on the floor! You can guess what happened next and who was left cleaning up the thrown up chocolates still with some of their wrappers on!

MsMims · 12/12/2015 23:44

A few years ago, we bought a small potted Christmas tree. We were told it would grow at about a rate of 1 foot per year, and lovingly nurtured it ever since, with the aim of one day it being big enough to bring into the house for the main tree.

All was going swimmingly until our new rescue puppy completely trashed it, chewing it down. I love her to bits but have never known a dog like her. The tree did miraculously survive, and now lives behind a little custom made fence to protect it from devil dog! Will only take about another bloody three years for it to grow back to height it was before she got her teeth into it!

We used to have a cat and we were training her still but she loved curling up on top of all the presents. She left her own presents on top of the wrapped presents one day :S

ImmortalBeloved72 · 13/12/2015 00:44

My late rabbit used to hide in amongst the presents and jump out at people

Anything that hits the floor in our house gets gobbled up by one of our dogs, Spike is such a scavenger, no 5 second rule here... Although our other dog Lola, who is much bigger than him managed to grab a joint of pork that was defrosting in the sink, I knew it was her as her stomach was protruding on both sides... :)

Our little dog Barney loves a treat - or two!

While eating Christmas dinner, a guest sneakily kept giving Barney treats from his plate, followed by Barney running upstairs. Then returning for more.

It wasn't until we eventually went to bed later that night that we discovered a cache of turkey, bacon, sausage and all sorts hiding under our pillows that we knew what the little fella had been up to.

He was obviously saving the tastiest treats to enjoy another time.

goose1964 · 13/12/2015 06:49

not mine but my in-laws - pre mobiles my in-laws kittens chewed their way through the phone lin

AnimalAddict · 13/12/2015 06:54

My cat decided it was a great idea to dive on top of the Christmas tree which of course fell and not only landed on all of the presents underneath but broke the ornaments surrounding it. :P

ottothedog · 13/12/2015 08:08

Our dog ran off on xmas day and came back with half a cooked turkey. Bad dog.

CHERYLPEARSON · 13/12/2015 09:03

our cat Elvis loves Christmas
he'll destroy the bottom half of the tree, bat the baubles of the branches and chase them around the house,
he took residence in my daughters doll pram last year, he was sound asleep in it when she got up on christmas morning & refused to move, think he enjoyed being pushed around!
out last cat used to climb up the inside of the tree causing it to topple, I had to tie a cord from the tree to the handle on the window to stop him toppling it over.
I've had my cat for longer than I have had children, and he also gets spoilt at christmas. he's even got a special cat christmas bowl!

Marg2k8 · 13/12/2015 10:42

I remember my daughter dressing our dog in angel wings

rejcomp · 13/12/2015 13:07

Well my goldfish went on the final log flume ride... sad :(

Jezzamk · 13/12/2015 13:10

Knocked the Christmas tree over, twice so far.

Two of my cats seem to think they want to be the fairy on top of the tree. Two over weight moggies competing for the highest place of the tree seems to be a recipe for disaster.

Needless to say I don't decorate it with fairy lights so they can get caughts and strangle themselves. They may be a nuisance but I love them very much

mulgrove · 13/12/2015 13:29

My cat ripped open all the Christmas Present on Christmas Eva while we was all in bed my Kids was soo upset on Christmas day when they went down stairs.

JWalker23 · 13/12/2015 14:04

Once, one of our dogs had a pee on the tree like outside and another time, another dog pushed the tree over to eat all the chocolates :(

Minnibix · 13/12/2015 14:12

My Labrador cross managed to get into the back of our local butchers shop and came home with a leg of pork that was nearly as large as he was. I could not believe my eyes when I saw him walking down the road as large as life with a this leg of pork hanging out of his mouth, We had to report it of course but by the time we took the leg of pork of the dog he had had his fill. Needless to say he did not get another Christmas dinner.

YouveCatToBeKittenMe · 13/12/2015 14:15

Last year I took on a cat with a broken leg. It was his first Christmas with us so I bought him a toy which can be filled with treats. He loved this toy on Christmas Day but unfortunately the dog thought that she should have it, cue a scuffle where the cat lashed out and caught his leg resulting in another break and 6 more weeks of cage rest. I was not best pleased with my dog.

kittykomp · 13/12/2015 14:35

ate christmas tree decorations

Foxedshoes · 13/12/2015 14:48

Dog has eaten the gingerbread house. Chewed through packaging while we were out.
Sigh.
She has previous. We can't put anything edible on tree.

smit23 · 13/12/2015 15:03

When our spaniel was still a puppy we had to pop out for an hour or so, we shut him in the kitchen (which we had done before and he was always happy enough about it, just curled up on his bed).
When we came home, we found he had ripped up the whole (newly laid!) floor!!!!!!
Considering it was Christmas Eve he wasn't very popular..

Cybertinker · 13/12/2015 15:52

My cat loves playing with the decorations and jumping in and out of the boxes when putting up the decorations! It is just a big game!

glad101 · 13/12/2015 16:03

i was ill with the flu and put some sheets that had been out in the rain into the tumble dryer to dry ,it was banging away thinking oh i must have put one of the childrens trainers in has well, with a thundering head ache lay back on the sofa for another 15 min .then thought , the banging was getting on my nerv's so went to check ,IT WAS THE CAT, covered in blood i screamed rang my husband at work , took the cat to the vets who was just a little battered and bruised but survived for another 7 years after, the children wont let me live this one day

sarah3875 · 13/12/2015 17:32

Our tortoise-Trigger got out in the snow one Christmas. I cannot believe he is still going strong 9 years later! No idea where he went but he landed up in the middle of our road!

suzyq50 · 13/12/2015 17:42

My labrador ate half a box of liqueur chocolates one Christmas. We wondered why he was sat in the corner of the room, ears down not looking too chipper.

We were very worried as not only is chocolate bad for dogs but the booze element too! We kept an eye on him but he soon recovered the next day. Turns out he recovers better than me from too much alcohol.
