One Christmas with the in-laws coming for Christmas Dinner I had made a huge sumptuous sherry trifle. All was going well until I went back into the kitchen and found the cat standing in the trifle and happily licking the cream. Well what else could I do apart from remove cat, re-arrange remaining cream, squirt some more on top from a handy can of squirty cream - and serve. No one has ever known this until this day!

My dad tends to prepare most of the Christmas dinner the day before so as to make Christmas day itself less hassle. One Christmas eve my dad had prepared the roast turkey early in the morning and left it on the worktop to cool. Somehow our glutinous Lab, Barney, managed to get the turkey and the plate it was on down from the worktop onto the floor. All without making a sound. We only discovered what he'd done when my mum went to the kitchen and saw the turkey with chunk bitten off it on the floor. We never understood how the plate didn't brake or we didn't here it plop on the floor.

As mad as we were about the Turkey, you got give the dog 'props' for effort plus we still had time to find alternative and

we had a very expensive tree, it was artificial and the branches were on hinges, after taking the best part of the day assembling it and decoration it, one of our cats climb straight up it and balanced between the branches and went to sleep. all the branches bowed and they just flopped down, had to repair as best as we could, but gave up after the cat decided it was the best place to sleep.

We don't celebrate xmas so no tales to report!

webkin · 14/12/2015 00:51

My cat has climbed the tree many a time. One time I didn't know he was in there....and went to close the curtains near the tree and he swiped out at me!!!

The absolute worst was the time I walked into the kitchen to check on my resting cooked turkey to discover our cat giving the turkey a full body hug and enthusiastically licking it...

Some of us braved the turkey, but I had to put chicken nuggets in the oven for those who couldn't face it.

jamielmdjs · 14/12/2015 01:48

the kittens love nothing more than running up the inside of the Christmas tree until they are hanging from the top branch. The problem is, that ALWAYS makes it top heavy, and down it comes crashing - every time.

Sadly Skye the Westie is no longer with us.However when she was just a puppy she sneaked into our room on Christmas Eve night & found her special doggy stocking that was on the bedroom floor awaiting to be wrapped. She then ate the entire contents & ended up being very sick over one the kids bedroom rugs . It stunk to high heaven & we just couldn't get it clean or rid of the awful smell.

We had a neighbour who loved her garden and didn't like cats. One Sunday morning she was preparing her Sunday roast - a small piece of beef. She turned the oven on and put the dish in to warm up & then realised she had a few items of clothing to hang out. She took them outside and popped them on the line, then went back to put the meat in the oven. Imagine her horror when, as she entered the house, my car darted outside with her piece of beef in his mouth! Evidently she screamed at him but he hopped it over the fence into our garden and climbed onto our single storey roof, where he polished off the beef. I don't think our neighbour ever forgave us and couldn't wait to see us move a few months later.

We adopted a cat just after Christmas one year, when the tree and decorations were still up. The black cat, whose name we changed from Bear to Storm, seemed to settle quite quickly, although he wasn't using his litter tray. After a couple of days I walked into the living room and the smell hit me - he had obviously done something in there. We looked behind the sofas and in the corners of the room but there was nothing to be found. Then it dawned on us - the real tree was planted in a pot with plenty of sand - which had made a very suitable litter tray! The decorations came down the same day!

Our little beast cat has finally grown out of trying to destroy the tree, but this year has managed to get down and savage his advent calendar
It's now on top of the fridge freezer and he stands and yowls at it twice a day ...

balloon66 · 14/12/2015 06:35

my two kittens managed to climb up the christmas tree without knocking it over, then sat meowing near the top !

jayz268 · 14/12/2015 07:41

The dog grabbing a mouthful of pigs in blankets off the table and running into the garden to eat it. She is usually so good, so it took us all by surprise!

merlymerly · 14/12/2015 08:34

There was a bit of a smell in the lounge during Christmas day - when we took the Christmas tree down a week later we found a dead mouse in it - the cat had put it there as a present for us!

piggypoo · 14/12/2015 08:41

Our moggy nipping next door, and getting very friendly with the pedigree cat who lived there, that is what I call naughty! She got pregnant! Another year, two of our cats worked as a team, and dragged the turkey out of the dining room, and attempted to eat it behind the settee!

I learnt never put a glass of Baileys on the floor, when I went to pick it up, my dog Gizmo was drinking it

meggysar · 14/12/2015 08:46

We'd spent a couple of hours putting up our Christmas tree and decorations before going out and upon our returned found our two cats having a whale of a time and a fully undecorated tree!!!

aligiraffe · 14/12/2015 08:48

We could never have chocolate on the tree at my Mum's. She kept saying to my son when he visited that she didn't mind if he had a chocolate off the tree but he should ask first. He kept saying it wasn't him, but my mum didn't believe him until one day she saw one of her German Shepherds walkpast the tree & sneakily grab a chocolate! He ate it wrapper & all! My son got an apology & the dog received a good telling off.

Woodruffshaz · 14/12/2015 08:49

Our mini Jack Russel Lola.... Last year she was obsesseddddddd with tinsel.... My own fault really because i played tug of war with her with a bit.... Anyway she kept trying to drag it off the tree last year every time you left the room you walk back in and theres her trying to pull it all off..... The amount of times the tree almost went flying!!!!!!!! this year as soon as we got the tree out there she was nose in the bag of tinsel so this year is a tinsel free Xmas tree!!!! Baubles all the way.... Shes not interested in them at all. Phewwwwwww

Flossiecrossie · 14/12/2015 08:59

My cat sneeked into the village hall whilst there was a Christmas party for the OAPs of the village. She managed to get her paws in the turkey and I had an irrate visit from the lady arranfging the affair.

sweir1 · 14/12/2015 09:13

we made the mistake of wrapping selection boxes and putting them under the tree - biggggggg mistake!

Pinktilgate · 14/12/2015 09:27

We had a cat a few years ago called Lucifer...the name says it all really! Haha! But he managed to demolish the majority of our Christmas turkey! Xo

becky004 · 14/12/2015 09:44

I have 3 Shar Pei, a couple of years ago I left the kitchen to answer the door to family, on returning to the kitchen, the turkey crown had been pulled off the worktop and the three of them were tucking in to it on the floor! Fortunately I had also cooked, pork, gammon and goose, so Christmas lunch wasn't ruined, but it was turkey free!

dramaqueen1966 · 14/12/2015 09:47

We let the rabbit out for a Christmas treat to run around the home. She ate through the telephone line and speaker wires. Well we didn't get any sales calls for a while and sang our own carols. Happy days xx
