When I was young we had a cat who jumped through next door's kitchen window on Christmas morning and had a good old go at one end of the ham joint sitting on the worktop until discovered. Our neighbour was rather crotchety and fierce so I think the whole street heard how we'd ruined her Christmas and she never forgave us . . .

finleypop · 12/12/2015 15:44

Our cat taught herself to open the fridge to steal bacon. On Christmas morning the fridge had been raided of the bacon that was intended to wrap around the turkey, so we had to manage without & ended up getting a child lock for the fridge

My tom cat would always try and hide in the xmas tree like a decoration

happysouls · 12/12/2015 16:43

I had 6 cats and I pretty soon found that they absolutely loved the little baubles from the Christmas tree! First they'd study them and bat at them with paws, but pretty soon there was major bauble football going on in every room of the house as they got batted around everywhere. I kept finding them in allsorts of places, they made their way under the fridge, behind the sofa etc etc. But most often I found them when I trod on them. Good job they were just massive packs of cheap ones! Probably cheaper than cat toys actually hahaha!

Last Christmas Eve we had just returned home from town and needed to feed our guests some late lunch. I opened a pack of chicken satay and in my haste dropped on eon the floor. Before I had chance to grab it my terrier ate it whole including the sharp skewer. We had to make a quick dash to the duty vet to give him an emetic , in order to retrieve it. It was returned to us in exactly the same state as it left the packet!! We shall be soooo careful this year!

I rescued a kitten once, and she stole a sausage off the plate that I was eating off during the meal

FeelingSmurfy · 12/12/2015 17:27

I spent hours wrapping presents (teddy bears) for my school friends, went upstairs and a few minutes later my sister shouted up "should the dog have this??" She had unwrapped every single one of them and was throwing them around the room having a great time! One look at her face and I couldn't stay angry Smile

bettythebuilder · 12/12/2015 17:30

We adopted a rescue cat a year ago October, she was very good with the tree last year and mostly ignored it. Now she's been with us a while and has well and truly got her paws under the table I keep hearing the tinkle of little baubles being played with followed by a guilty little cat face peering round the tree.

She's also nicked slices of pork, bits of chicken, nibbled some chicken curry left out to cool, and eaten croissants and waffles. We have to cover all food left out at Christmas with one of those pop-out net covers .. we refer to it as the DPD (Daisy protection device) Xmas Smile

Every year, at least once a week, my cat decides to run and jump into the middle of the christmas tree, possibly to attack a bauble? I dont know.. It's annoying though!!

Annbunce · 12/12/2015 19:41

Tigger, our cat when she was younger used to run up the tree and sit in the middle of it. Tut tut

mumpetuk1 · 12/12/2015 19:59

My dog stole the turkey carcass off of the side in the utility room that my mum was saving to make Turkey soup

liz1970 · 12/12/2015 20:13

My two cats playing around and up the Christmas tree ;)

Clairescottshug · 12/12/2015 20:31

Not this year but a few years back while the cooked turkey was resting my dog tucked in and helped herself.. Distressed isn't the word!

hannonle · 12/12/2015 20:32

When I was about 11 or so, I left a sharing tub of jelly sweets on the dining table. Came back home to find the dog had climbed up and eaten them all, even the special ones I was saving for last.

pennwood · 12/12/2015 21:02

My Labrador ate most of my leather settee just prior to Christmas. He had only been left for a couple of hours while I was finishing my Christmas shopping. Needless to say Santa had to organise new furniture from the January sale.

dragon60 · 12/12/2015 21:06

My cat is a sneaky thief that eats anything from anywhere, has even stolen a whole lamb leg bone from the dog. Don't tell anyone but even caught her with her teeth in the raw turkey one year - just chopped around that bit and made sure it was cooked!

Dapootz · 12/12/2015 21:21

When I was a youngster we had a big dopey Rotweiller called Baron. My dad left the turkey out on the kitchen sideboard to defrost, forgot to lock the dog out of the kitchen and returned to find most of the turkey had been gobbled up by the dog.

pfcpompeysarah · 12/12/2015 22:03

We have silver strips on the christmas tree that our cat loves, not last xmas but the one before he was trying to eat them because they fascinate him and the tree fell on top of him, now he is terrified of the tree and stares at it every time he comes into the room.

powerup2 · 12/12/2015 22:17

Our lurcher Jessie went missing one Christmas Eve, cue panic searching housewide, then garden wide, then street wide. After thirty or so frantic minutes checking with neighbours and making them check thier gardens and still no sign, my husband took to the car and started searching further afield. I was upset, the children were distraught (and my husband though he would be loathe to admit it was probably more upset than us all).

I enlisted relatives and friends to join in the search, but three hours later, no sign at all. Then my daughter went to the bathroom and heard a noise coming from the airing cupboard, opened the door and there was Jessie, happily curled up in the spare bedding in the nice warm airing cupboard! Having her "back" really did make Christmas that year...and we knew where to start looking for her thereafter!

StandUnderMyUmbrella · 12/12/2015 22:40

My cat loves to play with the baubles on the tree!! He pulls them off one by one and goes crazy!!

He also seems to have glitter sparkling on his face lately, so god knows what he is getting up to when im not in....having a good time by the looks of it!! xx

ogio9988 · 12/12/2015 22:41

My cat usually finds herself in the Christmas Tree - every year - sitting about half way up!

Crown · 12/12/2015 22:49

Our Dog once teared open all the Christmas presents that were left lovingly wrapped under the Christmas tree.

coffeeisnectar · 12/12/2015 23:15

Our family dog broke into the living room and chewed up some of the presents. This was in the 1980s and my sis and I were teens. There was make up under that tree. The dog looked very fetching with his hairy face covered in blue and green eye shadow.

The same year he was caught commando crawling behind the sofa with a chocolate orange in his mouth wearing a shifty look.

And also the same year, walked casually past the buffet food on the coffee table and just stuck his tongue out and licked about three sausage rolls on his way. Which he was given as no one else wanted them.

He was a very daft, funny dog.
