With Christmas just around the corner, Snazaroo want to know what children’s costume ideas Mumsnetters have to get into the holiday spirit.

Snazaroo says, “Get inspired by our Snazaroo Snow Princess Birthday party this winter season. Snazaroo is offering lots of facepaint ideas, perfect for the winter. If it’s an ice fairy, a snowman or reindeer that catches your eye then why not replicate these in 3-easy-steps! You can also find some ideas for party games, decorations or food on Snazaroo.co.uk. Snazaroo provides you all the tips to help you throw the perfect fairy-tale like party and paint smiles this winter!”

So, what are your Christmas fancy dress ideas? Would you stick some pointy ears on your DC and dress them up in an elf suit? Maybe you’d dress them up as Father Christmas by popping a fake white beard on them, dressing them in red and stuffing a pillow under their t-shirt? Or perhaps your child would prefer a cool Christmas tree outfit which you can both decorate together? Whatever your ideas are, Snazaroo would love to hear them!

Everyone who posts on this thread will be entered into a prize draw where one lucky Mumsnetter will win a £300 Love2Shop voucher!

Thanks and good luck,
MNHQ

My little girl is into girly tutus etc at the moment so I am making her a red Christmas fairy dress.

matphil · 14/12/2015 17:53

I dressed my son as a snowman using his dad's white shirt with tinsel for buttons and a scarf.

meggysar · 14/12/2015 18:09

At this time of year you can't beat a good elf costume or even a Christmas minion x

Simple tabard shape cut out of fake sheepskin. Doesn't even need hemming. Then a white wooly hat with two ears sewn or glued on.
White tights or leggings and white Tshirt.
Nativity sheep in half an hour!

Caga Tio!

It depends what they want to be and how much it may cost, we have facepaint and some coloured hairsprays , so Jack frost would be easy normal clothes with some white/bluey face paint and some white spray on spiked hair or a frosty princesses

My idea is to get the dogs involved. Nothing is cuter than the babies all dressed up together. Xx

My daughter doesn't mind, she is only 2 and as long as it is pretty she doesn't mind. I have got her an Elsa dress which is pretty and she asked where Olaf was!

turboshandy · 14/12/2015 22:35

The easiest outfit has to be a tea towel on the head and going as one of the three wise men! :)

angiehoggett · 14/12/2015 22:41

my daughter wanted to be a christmas fairy so I used white crepe paper to make a little skirt and stuck lots of glitter and sparkles to it, Angel wings I constructed out of cardboard and stuck on white bits of fluff from the craft shop. A plastic tiara and wand completed the outfit once she had a nice white leotard on.

An angel or fairy are always popular but my boys liked to dress like TMNT so turtles are a favourite.

cluckyhen · 14/12/2015 22:44

I struggle when it comes to fancy dress but this year we are all getting dressed up as naughty elves in xmas jumpers!

lilmiztam22 · 14/12/2015 23:01

Mog from Mog's christmas and recently Mog's Christmas Calamity, a twist to christmas dressing up and a conversation starter, cat ears, tail and big sad eyes painted on with white paint underneath it's cute and original :)

My son had a lovely brown fleecy dressing gown (way too short now) but all my kids have worn it with a few home created additions as the base of fancy dress costumes. Rudolph, teddy bear picnic, pet day etc. accidental godsend. Thank you MIL!!

robyn297 · 14/12/2015 23:49

I dressed my son in red and green then quickly crocheted some elf ears and attached to a santa hat, he was well chuffed and didnt take too long.

mulgrove · 15/12/2015 00:16

lol DS dressed up as a Christmas Cracker and i dressed up as a Christmas tree lol we look a right pair but so much fun

liamell · 15/12/2015 12:39

We save our old and empty toilet roll tubes and use those as antlers for our christmas dinner....we all wear them :)
Its nice to be silly with the children, makes them giggle when guests arrive and we are all antlered up

VickyRsuperstar · 15/12/2015 12:46

My kids love dressing up! The little girls always want to be angels which is pretty easy to make a halo out of tinsel and some wings from carboard and tin foil! They usually have a white party dress somewhere in their cupboard too, so it all comes together quite well.
The boys often dress up as Santa (I have a cheap Poundland santa suit from a couple of years ago) or a shepherd (we bought a shepherd costume one year in the sale to use in a school play) although sometimes my little boy prefers to just be a Power Ranger instead!
For the baby we have a little Santa dress and hat!

Flossiecrossie · 15/12/2015 18:50

My little one has grown out of dressing up as a princess and prefers darker characters to follow, often the badies out of films & books.

superkittycat · 15/12/2015 19:20

I would LOVE to dress up as a Turkey!! I'm pretty busy this year with my wedding coming up in January, but next year... watch this space!!

glmcall123 · 15/12/2015 19:38

My youngest daughter loves to dress up as a princess so Christmas will be no different.

sjl19 · 15/12/2015 21:17

Reindeer antlers and Father Christmas hats
