With Christmas just around the corner, Snazaroo want to know what children’s costume ideas Mumsnetters have to get into the holiday spirit.

Snazaroo says, “Get inspired by our Snazaroo Snow Princess Birthday party this winter season. Snazaroo is offering lots of facepaint ideas, perfect for the winter. If it’s an ice fairy, a snowman or reindeer that catches your eye then why not replicate these in 3-easy-steps! You can also find some ideas for party games, decorations or food on Snazaroo.co.uk. Snazaroo provides you all the tips to help you throw the perfect fairy-tale like party and paint smiles this winter!”

So, what are your Christmas fancy dress ideas? Would you stick some pointy ears on your DC and dress them up in an elf suit? Maybe you’d dress them up as Father Christmas by popping a fake white beard on them, dressing them in red and stuffing a pillow under their t-shirt? Or perhaps your child would prefer a cool Christmas tree outfit which you can both decorate together? Whatever your ideas are, Snazaroo would love to hear them!

Everyone who posts on this thread will be entered into a prize draw where one lucky Mumsnetter will win a £300 Love2Shop voucher!

Thanks and good luck,
MNHQ

Not very imaginative here - an elf and mother Christmas!!

RichTeaAreCrap · 07/12/2015 18:38

I dressed my DS up as Rudolph. He was only 3 at the time. I put him in a brown, fluffy onesie an tied a big red ribbon around his neck in a bow, put some antlers on his head (which he spent all day dragging off) and did his nose bright red. He looked gorgeous and very cute. Not sure he was very impressed though!

We're having a huge party on Christmas Eve to celebrate Xmas and my daughter's birthday. I've started making a grinch outfit for myself and my daughter is going to be Cindy Lou Who. I'm the grumpy one and she's really happy and sweet so the characters suit us lol I've almost finished the body suit for myself using green curtain material. I'm having trouble with the head and mask part but am thinking of using felt and paper mache to give some grinch like features.. My little one's Cindy Lou outfit is nearly done and luckily she has long golden hair and so a lot of plaiting and hairspray will be going on.

A Christmas pudding!

sarahbrokenshire · 07/12/2015 22:24

We have a dog called Puddin so we believe it would only be fair to dress the baby up as a Christmas puddin too :)

sweir1 · 07/12/2015 23:28

buddy from elf!

beckyinman · 07/12/2015 23:45

Angel wings are fairly easy to buy now with a tinsel halo. Or a snowman - white onesie with some big black buttons for coal, then a scarf and top hat. The finish with orange face paint on the nose

compy99 · 08/12/2015 08:12

a sheep, this involves white leotard and leggings and lots of cotton wool and a sheep cardboard face!

southernsun · 08/12/2015 09:55

I remember seeing someone on a works christmas party wearing a tan colour top and trousers and had partially wrapped himself in tin foil, apparently he was a christmas turkey.

chrisfc99 · 08/12/2015 10:27

Make a simple gold dress (or buy a gold dress). Make 9 felt carrots and attach to a cord to make a necklace. You now have a '9 carat gold' outfit!

DrSausagedog · 08/12/2015 15:35

Rudolph costume using shop bought antlers, brown trousers and top and face paint for red nose. It looks great.

Wjjkl · 08/12/2015 15:53

Little boy has to be Thomas the tank wherever possible. So probably just add some tinsel to make Thomas festive..!

sarah861421 · 08/12/2015 20:22

a bunch of grapes. dress in purple or black and cover yourself in balloons

juju3 · 08/12/2015 20:44

Has to be the fairy from the top of the tree and Santa or his elves for the boys

AnimalAddict · 09/12/2015 06:11

Buddy the elf :)

WinterBabyof89 · 09/12/2015 10:36

I'll be knitting the baby an elf hat, and DS (4) will wear his Xmas jumper with his springy reindeer headband

jandoc · 09/12/2015 14:18

an angel is always nice

mo3733 · 09/12/2015 20:13

a universal grinch dress up

VaseandCandle · 09/12/2015 21:34

An elf! It can be easy or intricate depending on time and patience thresholds

lolamia91 · 10/12/2015 00:26

Mr and Mrs Claus with two elves and a reindeer x

bigsnugglebunny · 10/12/2015 00:35

My DD wants to dress up as a Snowman - so I'm attempting to master my sewing machine and make her a costume. failing that, I think I can probably buy a Snowman onesie somewhere! :D

Tanfastic · 10/12/2015 06:36

There are some brill Xmas onesies about, invest in one (great penguin one I've seen in bhs), snazaroo make up - Bob's your Uncle!

You then have a Xmas onesie to wear so it's not a waste.

FeelingSmurfy · 10/12/2015 18:40

Snowman is a nice easy one :) white top, scarf and hat. White face paint and black or orange circle on nose

morethemerrier · 10/12/2015 19:49

Easiest last minute one - carol singer! Warm coat, hat, scarf, gloves. Book backed in wrapping paper with Christmas Songs written on! Optional collection box if wanted!

bigsnugglebunny · 10/12/2015 20:50

Ahh smurfy that's brilliant, thank you! I'm so out of ideas at the moment from running about trying to organise everyone!
