With Christmas just around the corner, Snazaroo want to know what children’s costume ideas Mumsnetters have to get into the holiday spirit.

Snazaroo says, “Get inspired by our Snazaroo Snow Princess Birthday party this winter season. Snazaroo is offering lots of facepaint ideas, perfect for the winter. If it’s an ice fairy, a snowman or reindeer that catches your eye then why not replicate these in 3-easy-steps! You can also find some ideas for party games, decorations or food on Snazaroo.co.uk. Snazaroo provides you all the tips to help you throw the perfect fairy-tale like party and paint smiles this winter!”

So, what are your Christmas fancy dress ideas? Would you stick some pointy ears on your DC and dress them up in an elf suit? Maybe you’d dress them up as Father Christmas by popping a fake white beard on them, dressing them in red and stuffing a pillow under their t-shirt? Or perhaps your child would prefer a cool Christmas tree outfit which you can both decorate together? Whatever your ideas are, Snazaroo would love to hear them!

Everyone who posts on this thread will be entered into a prize draw where one lucky Mumsnetter will win a £300 Love2Shop voucher!

Thanks and good luck,
MNHQ

We as a family enjoy Christmas so much, We often attend Christmas parties that involve dressing up! It is super exciting!
My daughter dresses up as the snow queen, my son dresses up as an elf and so do i :) My hubby dresses as Santa we have such a laugh!
The costumes are easy to make, I bought the elf costume and the santa costume but I made the snow queen dress and added lots of sparkle to the dress.
Ebay have some fantastic deals on costumes at the moment.

Use a large piece of green material to make a poncho type shape and sew on pom-poms or bauble type shapes and a few pieces of tinsel across. A gold star by the chin or on a headband to make a Christmas tree.

I have collected mascots for a few years and this year its 'snowman' time

buckley1983 · 06/12/2015 22:56

The classic Christmas tree! A green adult t-shirt or sweatshirt - shaped up with some darts in the front & back & then festooned with as many pieces of tinsel & lightweight baubles as possible!! Dress it up with some battery powered fairy lights & an alice band with a gold star fastened on with a spring so it wobbles around. Perfect!

A Christmas tree outfit

thekiwibex · 07/12/2015 03:31

Any inanimate object is always the funniest option!

pockledigg · 07/12/2015 05:24

Onesies are great for making quick 'costumes'-a green one with a fairy in your hair-a Christmas tree, a white one-a snowman, a brown one-a Twiglet-you get the idea.

Elizasmum02 · 07/12/2015 05:30

im going to be an angel at the works fancy dress do and have made my costume out of th fake snow that comes in sheets :)

samosh22 · 07/12/2015 05:49

Elf on the Shelf

Marg2k8 · 07/12/2015 07:56

When DD was little she used to love dressing up as a princess, so at Christmas, it just needed a wand and she could be the Christmas Fairy, or a pair of wings and she could be an angel.

funkyfish586 · 07/12/2015 08:30

Any old boring jumper can be jazzed up with some tinsel stitched around. I have also been known to stitch some tiny baubles on. A cheap alternative to a Christmas Jumper

tabbaz123 · 07/12/2015 08:46

We cheat a little as after halloween ghosts we make snowmen! Easy to adapt a sheet :)

lizd31 · 07/12/2015 08:50

A great idea that I got from some Tom Dodson artwork that I collect which is 2 pictures, one of a girl getting dolled up for a night out & the other looking rough the morning after so I call this outfit 'the morning after the night before' sew together a little black dress & a nightie, wear a shoe on one foot & a slipper on the other & put make up perfectly on one side of your face & all smudged on the other & perfect hair one side & ruffled the other. I think it's a really unique idea & it makes people laugh & great for the party season

jenniwren12 · 07/12/2015 09:11

my daughter dresses as Elsa all the time, my son won't dress up anymore

BlueBlueBelles · 07/12/2015 09:18

We've done a christmas star - black tracksuit with a sparkly pipe cleaner star on the front. We've done Christmas tree - green jumper with tinsel and baubles. Christmas present with a box always looks easy and fun. And of course the shop bought king/donkey/santa.

I'm not keen on dressing up, but might don a head bopper or two!

RueDeWakening · 07/12/2015 09:23

I bought DS2 a snowman costume last week, from a local charity shop. He took one look at it, and cried! So I'm donating it to playgroup instead where he'll spend 90% of his time there wearing it the ingrate Grin

I was face painting at the school fair at the weekend (using Snazaroo, of course!), the little Santa hat over one eyebrow was probably the most popular request, but there were still a few Batmans, Olafs, and Elsas.

a present - big cardboard box, which kids had to hold around around them, wrapped in xmas wrapping paper

Firewall · 07/12/2015 09:45

Large Christmas gift bag, cut out the bottom and holes for arms on the side. Step in! And you're done! Also cover head with gift stars and a few on the bag too!

rhinosuze · 07/12/2015 10:08

We are going to try to dress as presents, have made some cardboard boxes pretty and bought red tights, jumper and hair bow - I cut out the top and bottom of the box so it can go around her middle, just need to work out how to attach it now!

sweetsomethings · 07/12/2015 10:18

a christmas star is always an easy and simple idea

kazza1967 · 07/12/2015 10:48

We had a fancy dress party with the theme of christmas carols. I put on a black bin bag and then put some parcel tape over my mouth and went as 'silent night'. Hadn't thought it through though as I couldn't drink!! lol

WowOoo · 07/12/2015 10:58

My kids have gone as reindeers: Antlers and a red nose, brown trousers and top (very 70s)
One of mine wore a tail and bells and had a bit of extra make up, whilst my other one refused!

ThomasRichard · 07/12/2015 11:32

I have to dress up in my naffest Christmas outfit at work tomorrow Hmm As I don't have a 'Christmas outfit' of any description, I will be going as a killjoy.

jodiecrossley1 · 07/12/2015 12:23

always go for an angel as it is easy to do!

BL0SS0M · 07/12/2015 13:41

a xmas tree..dress all in green, add pom poms and battery powered fairy lights! : )
