With Christmas just around the corner, Snazaroo want to know what children’s costume ideas Mumsnetters have to get into the holiday spirit.

Snazaroo says, “Get inspired by our Snazaroo Snow Princess Birthday party this winter season. Snazaroo is offering lots of facepaint ideas, perfect for the winter. If it’s an ice fairy, a snowman or reindeer that catches your eye then why not replicate these in 3-easy-steps! You can also find some ideas for party games, decorations or food on Snazaroo.co.uk. Snazaroo provides you all the tips to help you throw the perfect fairy-tale like party and paint smiles this winter!”

So, what are your Christmas fancy dress ideas? Would you stick some pointy ears on your DC and dress them up in an elf suit? Maybe you’d dress them up as Father Christmas by popping a fake white beard on them, dressing them in red and stuffing a pillow under their t-shirt? Or perhaps your child would prefer a cool Christmas tree outfit which you can both decorate together? Whatever your ideas are, Snazaroo would love to hear them!

Everyone who posts on this thread will be entered into a prize draw where one lucky Mumsnetter will win a £300 Love2Shop voucher!

Thanks and good luck,
MNHQ

DD is going to be an elf although she is a bit small to really dress her up as anything a bit more ambitious

Dh has an elf hat complete with fake beard that he wears with a tacky Christmas jumper. I tend to stick to tinsel earrings but tend to put dd in either a snowman onesie or rudolph. Plain White onesie with big black buttons drawn or sewn on and a wee scarf attached plus a woolie hat for the snowman and a shop bought one with wee foam antler headband for rudolph!

The Grinch, green Snazaroo face paint, green fake fur for hair and whiskers and a Santa Suit. Easy and inexpensive to create. Xmas Envy

My son had to be a 'present' in nursery, but had to be able to sit down in the costume so I couldn't use an actual box. I spent hours making a tabard from christmassy material and sewing big gold bows on the front and back. It looked amazing and I was probably the most pleased I have ever been with one of my 'creations' (it's not a strong point for me...).

ButterflyOfFreedom · 04/12/2015 12:32

Well DS is the donkey in his nursery Christmas concert but luckily outfits are provided!!

I think I'd go down the Santa route - red trousers / jumper, black shoes, Santa hat, big white beard, Santa sack... and DS has an impressive Ho Ho Ho!

FlukeSkyeRunner · 04/12/2015 18:01

DD would want to be Captain Barnacles regardless of the Christmas theme... she always want to be Captain Barnacles...

Silverstones · 05/12/2015 11:02

One year the whole family all had red trousers, red jumpers, and brown bobble hats on - we were The Cranberries!

unadulterateddad · 05/12/2015 22:30

We have reindeer outfits for our two lurchers, one of them loves it the other hates his. Everyone loves the sad face that we get when our older dog knows he is going to get dressed up...

But we do then have the fastest reindeer after Santa Smile

TrollTheRespawnJeremy · 06/12/2015 00:13

We have a frozen mad houSe and so we had a wee frozen crafty party.

Was very handy as I only had white and blue face paint!!

The grinch!!
Or Jack from the nightmare before Christmas in a santa outfit.....something a bit unconventional!

sealight123 · 06/12/2015 11:39

Not even lying..we dressed my daughter up as a present one year..
We literally just wrapped her in wrapping paper. She absolutely loved it haha

I think with fancy dress you don't need much to make a great costume just a bit of imagination and flair :P

This year she is an angel for her first school play so were thinking lots of glitter, sparkles and rosy cheeks :)

piggyliggy2015 · 06/12/2015 18:09

I have a little miss santa suit for my baby girl. I think for Christmas day I will get her another little outfit, maybe an elf :-)

Ganne1 · 06/12/2015 18:10

Go as Santa Claus, carrying three garden implements ... Hoe! Hoe! Hoe!

hiddenmichelle · 06/12/2015 18:11

Mine are shepherds - nice and easy (just a sheet and teatowel etc) Easiest year yet!

TracyKNixon · 06/12/2015 18:22

For a cute elf outfit - buy a cheap pair of green shorts and a t-shirt or dye an old set green. I had some red felt so cut out the letters 'e', 'l' and 'f' and stitched them on to the t-shirt (you could used glue though). My little girl looked cute with her hair in pig tails using red hair bobbles with red pom poms attached and I used face paint to give her some rosy cheeks! She wore red socks and I stitched a little bell on the side of each so she jingled as she walked.

Alternatively for a boy, miss out the pig tails and add a Santa hat instead!

ThemisA · 06/12/2015 18:26

A giant cracker was the best I could manage!

andywedge · 06/12/2015 18:28

Nothing better than a fairy for a little girl; she'll love it, it's easy to make and a bit of tweeking and after Xmas you have a princess

devito92 · 06/12/2015 18:34

DS likes being an Elf that way he can help out. Sticking jingle bells on the end of green socks and some pointy ears works a treat.

hdh747 · 06/12/2015 18:35

Fairy on a Christmas tree. A green long skirt decorated by sewing plastic baubles on makes the tree. It can be made to stand out by sewing a large hoop into the hem. Then a second, netting, skirt is worn over the top to give the impression of a fairy sitting on a tree. Very simple to make my bunching netting over an elastic waist band and securing with a few stitches.
A lacy top, netting wings, head-dress and wand completes the outfit. The winds are easy to make my bunching up some netting and tying around the middle with ribbon and pinning onto the back of the top with a safety pin. A headress can be made with a simple loop of tinsel. A stick covered in foil with a cardboard, foil-covered star and a little more tinsel makes the wand.

LeeR1985 · 06/12/2015 18:39

I always get my daughter to dress up as santa, fake beard and all, but she hates it and usually takes the beard off after 5 mins!

gamerwidow · 06/12/2015 18:40

DD would love to dress as the grinch with green face paint and a red top and leggings.

Lauzipop1 · 06/12/2015 18:41

I actually saw a Christmas jumper last year that was long and shaped to look like a Christmas tree. It was pretty special if you're into that sort of thing.

bobble5366 · 06/12/2015 18:43

use an old roll of wallpaper, and turn your child into a Christmas cracker, with tinsel to pull around the knees, and under the shoulders, cover with glue and glitter!!

glennamy · 06/12/2015 18:50

An angel is a big hit with DD and easy to make with stuff around the home. The dogs likes their antlers for about 5 seconds before grabbing each others off their heads and tearing them to pieces :)

finleypop · 06/12/2015 18:58

I made an angels costume out of a large white adults t shirt, white tights, with a tinsel belt & halo
