Christmas is fast approaching so now is the time to make sure your home is looking fabulous and ready for all the guests and festivities. Valspar would love to hear how you’re planning to ensure your home wows this year.

Valspar says: “The home is at the heart of Christmas, it’s the place where friends and family gather to spend quality time together, so it’s the perfect time to give it a refresh to make sure it’s looking at its best. Valspar’s unique colour matching technology can replicate any colour the eye can see, so whether you hope to spruce up the paint in the hallway in a shade to match a favourite fabric, or create a striking feature wall to match a festive bauble and complement your beautifully decorated Christmas tree, Valspar has it covered. Simply take a colour sample to your local B&Q and the exact shade can be matched in paint form.

Valspar’s super scrub formula also makes it perfect for busy family homes. After the party season, walls can be wiped down and scrubbed clean without chipping or compromising the colour – so whether there’s been a gravy explosion or a cranberry sauce mishap, you don’t have to worry.”

So, do you have a particular colour scheme you're going for when it comes to prepping the home for Christmas? Perhaps you’re going for a neutral theme, with handpicked Scandinavian decorations? Or will you be keeping traditional and filling your home with reds, greens and golds? Maybe you plan to get crafty and make your decorations from scratch?

However you’re planning to decorate this Christmas, Valspar would love to hear about it!

Everyone who adds a comment to this thread will be entered into a prize draw where one winner will receive a £300 Love2Shop voucher.

Thanks and good luck,

We put up loads and decorations and 3 trees (one in lounge, one in conservatory and a little one on the dining room table. We have 15 family members over for Christmas day and Boxing day so make the house as festive as we can. We also have festive scented Yankee Candles burning to give the house a nice Christmasy smell.

glenka · 22/11/2015 20:31

Add some nice winter themed cushions

Roraima · 22/11/2015 20:38

Just had the house redecorated except for the storage area. My task is having that area "up and running" before Christmas which means elbow work!

hiddenmichelle · 22/11/2015 20:39

Thorough clean and simple but beautiful real tree....

taz10 · 22/11/2015 20:41

yatota74 · 22/11/2015 20:47

We have just done up the childrens rooms as they had outgrown their beds, so a lot of new furniture and a proper clean has just been done. I don't decorate a lot for Christmas as we go to visit and spend Christmas with my parents and family in Switzerland every year. Just a few candles and ornaments to get into the festive mood.

robinson131 · 22/11/2015 20:48

I'll be putting up my new tree with all the red, gold and green baubles. It's back to traditional for me this year!

juju3 · 22/11/2015 20:51

Declutter, then declutter, and finally declutter

lindseystuart85 · 22/11/2015 21:01

I love to have a BIG clean before Christmas (whilst listening to christmas tunes)
I make sure my oven is well and truly gleaming clean
Then I do my fridge ready for all the christmas food
I often have family staying over at my house during the festive period so I become very organised in December making sure all the bedding is fresh and the room is clean
My key is to be organised so that you can enjoy Christmas day without being flat out.

Mandahul · 22/11/2015 21:04

We are decorating the entrance hall landing and stairs which has been battered by bikes, football goals and endless little boys with muddy shoes over the last couple of years. I am looking forward to walking into the house and being greeted by clean white, crystals and my butterfly wallpaper for the one one wall. Decided to bring a little bit of girly pink into at least one room in the house.

hazelangell · 22/11/2015 21:07

I'll be doing a big deep clean of the whole house before putting the decorations and tree up. I'll also be finishing painting the bathroom which I started months ago and then life got in the way (and my mum borrowed my step ladder) so it has remained unfinished!

sweir1 · 22/11/2015 21:10

With home made wreaths

pennwood · 22/11/2015 21:13

Full top to bottom clean before all the Christmas decorations are put up.

Hevster78 · 22/11/2015 21:13

I am trying to keep on top of the tidying at the moment - once December arrive things only look more cluttered - though I cant wait to get the tree up. We need to have a bit of a clear out of old toys before the big day as well, to make way for the new ones!

pfcpompeysarah · 22/11/2015 21:14

I can't really afford to 'spruce' up my home but I think once the deccies are up it makes a big difference, I also make use of fairy lights around the house to make it feel cosy and warm, placing them in vases or around banisters.

Sarn1234 · 22/11/2015 21:20

I have a new Christmas tree and plan to put fairy lights and candles everywhere. I stick to traditional green and red and cant wait to make the place look festive x

seeingdouble2 · 22/11/2015 21:24

our house is already decked out for xmas!! we could not wait any longer as we love the season, we have the 7ft tree up , decs you name it we have it :)

CHERYLPEARSON · 22/11/2015 21:29

sprucing up my house is generally the last thing on my mind at this time of year! I'll give the living room a shuffle around so we can put the tree up but thats about it ~ I love letting the kids make decorations. These give the kids entertainment and the love displaying their crafts of snowflakes, and other random stuff that I see on pintrest. Usually they all go a bit pear shaped though, but they're always proud and happy. Brighten up the place too

steviestarship · 22/11/2015 21:30

We have all the usual decorations and recently my mum has given me all the decorations that my sister and I made when we were children. Looking forward to hanging them or adding them to the tree beside my children's creations.

Cailin7 · 22/11/2015 21:34

We have a neutral scheme and our tree gets decorated with gold and silver and we have gorgeous candles

Elizasmum02 · 22/11/2015 21:47

I give the whole house a thorough clean before christmas and when i get the decs out ill check if any got broke and each each at the sale ill buy new decs which means each year we have something new

janeoho · 22/11/2015 21:51

I put up thick curtains at xmas so that the living room seems more cosy! I also put nice scented candles out

littlemisstrivia · 22/11/2015 21:58

Want to go all out this year to celebrate Christmas in style having been in hospital last Christmas. Going to get my four year old to help decorate the house.

MAForster · 22/11/2015 21:59

With all the other things that are needed for Christmas, there is no time for 'sprucing up'!

Squid102 · 22/11/2015 22:01

Just a general tidy and clean before getting the Christmas decorations down from the loft - complete with original 1970s retro tinsel tree!
