Christmas is fast approaching so now is the time to make sure your home is looking fabulous and ready for all the guests and festivities. Valspar would love to hear how you’re planning to ensure your home wows this year.

Valspar says: “The home is at the heart of Christmas, it’s the place where friends and family gather to spend quality time together, so it’s the perfect time to give it a refresh to make sure it’s looking at its best. Valspar’s unique colour matching technology can replicate any colour the eye can see, so whether you hope to spruce up the paint in the hallway in a shade to match a favourite fabric, or create a striking feature wall to match a festive bauble and complement your beautifully decorated Christmas tree, Valspar has it covered. Simply take a colour sample to your local B&Q and the exact shade can be matched in paint form.

Valspar’s super scrub formula also makes it perfect for busy family homes. After the party season, walls can be wiped down and scrubbed clean without chipping or compromising the colour – so whether there’s been a gravy explosion or a cranberry sauce mishap, you don’t have to worry.”

So, do you have a particular colour scheme you're going for when it comes to prepping the home for Christmas? Perhaps you’re going for a neutral theme, with handpicked Scandinavian decorations? Or will you be keeping traditional and filling your home with reds, greens and golds? Maybe you plan to get crafty and make your decorations from scratch?

However you’re planning to decorate this Christmas, Valspar would love to hear about it!

Everyone who adds a comment to this thread will be entered into a prize draw where one winner will receive a £300 Love2Shop voucher.

Thanks and good luck,

Always traditional in my house. Red and green all the day

Annbunce · 22/11/2015 19:02

This year I'm hoping for a red and white theme. Each year I try to do something a little different. I just love all the prepping etc x

pixies13 · 22/11/2015 19:13

love when the xmas tree goes up, we put lights in the garden hanging from the trees, and have a tree in the front room and the porch.

Funkyferret · 22/11/2015 19:15

I'm in the middle of the big deep-clean and declutter. It's been a busy year so the de-cluttering has been a lot more work than I'd have liked! We had hoped to re-do the kitchen but have ran out of time so that's just had a few cosmetic repairs, a new blind and some new lino slapped down. So hopefully closer to the time the house will just need the run-of-the-mill cleaning and the Christmas duvets put on (disclaimer: the Christmas duvets were not my idea!).

We are in the middle of painting the hallway and stairs, just a freshen up to cover all the fingerprints and artwork lovingly drawn by our toddler. We will be overhauling the front room after the decorations come down to a mulberry colour scheme, no point doing it before Christmas with all the decorations going up.

glennamy · 22/11/2015 19:24

Just a big clean the week before Christmas, but do not go over the top. Once the decorations go up then thats it, apart from dusting & vacuuming when needed for the week...

LeeR1985 · 22/11/2015 19:27

I'm not choosing the decorations, I never do. I let my daughter decide and it usually involves a bucket load of tinsel with no real colour scheme Grin

beeelaine · 22/11/2015 19:28

For christmas i like to do a mini spring clean! get it all spick and span, and then we like to use traditional style of decorations, we have a lot of old decorations from family who are no longer with us, and its nice to add the odd bits to them, recently bought a set of glass reindeer lights which are really pretty. I think the kids in the family are just excited to see any design and style of tree! But one thing we dont miss out on is hanging the chocolates for all of them to find when they visit!

janeyf1 · 22/11/2015 19:35

Nothing elaborate. just 2 little trees with red tinsel and lights as a centrepiece

claireblaney123 · 22/11/2015 19:42

Just a good clean up, havn't got the Budget to do any real sprucing up this year but i wold have been nice to.

mave · 22/11/2015 19:42

With the help of lovely girls! I'm going to treat us to some new decorations this year whist lighting cinnamon candles!

joanf · 22/11/2015 19:47

I am busy doing a massive declutter and deep clean, as we hope to move in the new year, so should be clutter free for Christmas

GooodMythicalMorning · 22/11/2015 19:48

Greens and reds everywhere with twinkly warm white fairy lights hung round to make it feel cosy.

BellaWella86 · 22/11/2015 19:51

I'll be having a good spring (or should I say 'winter'!) clean ahead of putting the decs up.

MAT12 · 22/11/2015 19:52

we have a colour scheme for each room down stairs. Front room ice blue and white, dinning room Gold and red then the hall is red and white. i dont really live ceiling decs but one year wilko were doing shiny blue and red paper chains to make yourself(they were not paper but something stronger) well they are still going strong and actually look lovely up

ashde · 22/11/2015 19:54

With limited kitchen storage space, these compact bowls would be very useful with family dinners.

Dizzyc73 · 22/11/2015 19:55

Every Xmas I bring out all my Disney themed christmas decorations and ornaments - all collected over the years from various trips to Florida, Paris or bought in the UK. I love my christmas Minnie & mickey, they are so cute! And it always remind the kids of the great holidays we've had over the years.

littleme96 · 22/11/2015 19:56

We are going for a big de-clutter before Christmas and hoping to finish off some small DIY jobs that have already been started.

Our colour scheme is burgundy red and gold on a faux tree. I hope to be able to make a garland for our dining table as well to bring some of the outside in.

flozza42 · 22/11/2015 20:01

I make sure I have decorated and have a good clear out before December and stick to a traditional tree with one colur dominating and lots of twinkling lights throughout the house make it totally festive

hannonle · 22/11/2015 20:03

I keep pretty tidy most of the time so there's no big clean to do but I will put up a tree. We don't do a lot but if I could really spruce the place up it would mean new carpets - so I'll just ignore them instead!
The kids will probably get to make and hang paper chains if I need to occupy them at any point.

cozza777 · 22/11/2015 20:11

We will be investing in our first real tree this year which I am yet to decide if that's a good idea or not :/ I am not sure if my OCD will handle the pine needles eek. I like to have lots of twinkly lights dotted around as that creates the cosy feel. I have invested in a fancy new Gisela Graham fairy to put on top of the tree this year which I am sadly very excited about but other than that I will be dragging out all the old ye faithful's :)

CMOTDibbler · 22/11/2015 20:16

We're having all the ILs round on the 20th, so I'm embarking on a really good tidy up and declutter downstairs, with a refresh of the hall and downstairs loo paint

Ikea1234 · 22/11/2015 20:17

We have had a full on clean in preparation for winter and the festive period, and we have also splurged on new bedroom furniture for both us and our son. Neither of us had had anything new for ten odd years, so we felt we deserved it, especially as our son was still in his first single bed since moving out of his cot! We have also got to go round and touch up paintwork, and scuffs, particularly in the hallway, as that's the first place guests see! Next thing on the list....cleaning the oven!

piggyliggy2015 · 22/11/2015 20:23

I am undecided on decorations this year - my decorations are all beautiful glass ones that I have collected over the years, but now we have a crawling 9 month old it may be a bit dangerous to have a tree in her reach especially with glass baubles!

JoJoY · 22/11/2015 20:23

I will be putting up our old artificial tree, it looks beautiful for 5 minutes before the cat makes it her home!!!
