Christmas is fast approaching so now is the time to make sure your home is looking fabulous and ready for all the guests and festivities. Valspar would love to hear how you’re planning to ensure your home wows this year.

Valspar says: “The home is at the heart of Christmas, it’s the place where friends and family gather to spend quality time together, so it’s the perfect time to give it a refresh to make sure it’s looking at its best. Valspar’s unique colour matching technology can replicate any colour the eye can see, so whether you hope to spruce up the paint in the hallway in a shade to match a favourite fabric, or create a striking feature wall to match a festive bauble and complement your beautifully decorated Christmas tree, Valspar has it covered. Simply take a colour sample to your local B&Q and the exact shade can be matched in paint form.

Valspar’s super scrub formula also makes it perfect for busy family homes. After the party season, walls can be wiped down and scrubbed clean without chipping or compromising the colour – so whether there’s been a gravy explosion or a cranberry sauce mishap, you don’t have to worry.”

So, do you have a particular colour scheme you're going for when it comes to prepping the home for Christmas? Perhaps you’re going for a neutral theme, with handpicked Scandinavian decorations? Or will you be keeping traditional and filling your home with reds, greens and golds? Maybe you plan to get crafty and make your decorations from scratch?

However you’re planning to decorate this Christmas, Valspar would love to hear about it!

Everyone who adds a comment to this thread will be entered into a prize draw where one winner will receive a £300 Love2Shop voucher.

Thanks and good luck,

No redecoration but the pressure is on to tidy, clear out and finish the living room before we host Christmas! I love putting up Christmas decorations and have about 5 boxes worth in the barn Blush

the theme is pretty traditional in red and green but with random reindeer, robins and associated Christmas tat dotted about! This year I have brought me ds a santana snow globe and am also slowly building a wee twinkly Christmas village to have in the front window.

I love Christmas Xmas Grin

not redecorating the room is neutral but i add layers of throws and blankets and cushions in festive colours lots of red this year

helcrai · 03/12/2015 11:58

We have just finished painting our living room in a pale grey, hoping it will look nice with the silver theme on our real tree. Have bought cushions to coordinate and am looking forward to seeing it all put together! It will be a contemporary/but cosy theme I still need some comfy throws to keep us all snuggled up watching Christmas movies. My kids always make a new Christmas decoration at school each year and those will have pride of place on the tree.

Our house got shabby after several years of wear and tear on the paint work and carpet to the point that I felt too embarassed to let anyone come round any more so in November I just had to do something to sort it all out before Christmas. It took two full weeks to redecorate the hall and landings over all 3 floors of the house and re-paint all the bannister rails, then we had a new carpet fitted. This was my Christmas present to myself because now at last I can open the front door and not feel ashamed any more and I am happy to invite guests over again. I don't know how well it will last with 9 kiddies, but I'm training them to take care of it.
Now all the ground work is done, we will be putting the Christmas decorations up this weekend and making it ready for guests :-)

I always tend to go for a red and gold theme the last few years.

kirstykovacs1 · 03/12/2015 16:11

We have a HUGE autumn clear out, especially the boys bedroom! They sort out all all the toys and books they've outgrown over the year and any decent stuff goes to our local charity shop! Also I do love to clean the kitchen cupboards out to make way for all the yummy Christmas treats!

handbar · 03/12/2015 17:14

I want to decorate my flat with natural items such as a real wreath, tree, garlands and fir cones. I have not tried this before but I think it would make a nice change.

marshgirl · 03/12/2015 17:23

I always have a Christmas clean . Everything is pulled out , washed and rehomed. The feeling of a clean and tidy home ready for Christmas makes me very happy. I get a great satisfaction out of sitting down once the tree is up feeling like my home is now ready for Christmas. Mind you the gifts and food side are not as organised by this point.

New air freshners should do the trick .

chr1ssy0908 · 03/12/2015 18:26

I had a complete tidy up and clear out last weekend as well as a fresh lick of paint in the living room....especially important for all of those photo's! ;)

emily13 · 03/12/2015 18:47

We've redecorated the lounge and made it cosy, the tree is up and we've got lots of fake candles!

andreaca · 03/12/2015 19:23

Ive got a december rota, and we all get stuck in, the kids are great and even my hubby tries his best.

Jocelynne123 · 03/12/2015 22:08

Red and gold. We normally have cream cushions and throws but it is so cozy and comfy to have reds. It makes the room feel so warm xx

BellaVida · 03/12/2015 23:09

The reality is we would love a Christmas makeover, but My DH and I are both working and have 4 DC's. Between us we have 5 days off work without kids between now and Christmas. The house is a blank slate as we haven't had the money to deviate from 'magnolia' since we moved in, so any splash of colour is welcome!
So far we have de-cluttered, tried to deal with the winter mould problem, told the kids to tidy their rooms and put a tree up dressed in gold, red & green. I dream of an open fire, red accent cushions, festive scented candles and Victorian style fir garlands with holly berries adorning my walls. The reality is we will get the kids to do colour co-ordinated paper chains and throw some tinsel at the bannister!
Either way, we will make something of it.

tishist · 03/12/2015 23:24

Not decorating or anything at all as we don't celebrate xmas!

jamielmdjs · 03/12/2015 23:38

the red and green accessories are out - cushions, throws, placemats.

hbakfam · 03/12/2015 23:53

We'll put up the same decorations we've had for about 20 years, it's a tradition! We'll also get a branch to put baubles on - less mess than a tree

RoosterCogburn · 04/12/2015 17:42

Lots of glass decorations and purples.

BreconBeBuggered · 05/12/2015 00:41

I love glass decorations but with a young rescue terrier we're restricting it all to lights and shiny bits hanging off the ceiling. The walls are plain but for Christmas I like as many different coloured lights as possible. It's supposed to be a bit garish and over the top.

Silverstones · 05/12/2015 11:10

It's white feathers sprayed gold this year - stole the idea from John Lewis, but making our own this weekend!

It's part of an angel theme, all white decorations and gold trimmings. Lovely white tinsel, which I'm going to add a little gold spray onto.

Really looking forward to it!

LumpySpaceCow · 06/12/2015 05:32

Our theme is 'Christmas Vomit'.....a mash of every colour thrown over the house by the kids! As gaudy as you can get it Grin

clopper · 06/12/2015 22:32

Red green and gold here, going for a traditional look. It is a tradition that we all have a declutter and give away a bag of things from our rooms to charity to make room for the new. I try to hang cards to avoid lots of clutter and extra dusting. Even though the DC are older they like to have out lots of the tree decorations they made when they were younger. As time goes on I move some of the more tired looking decorations nearer the back of the tree. They never seem to notice.

Wjjkl · 08/12/2015 16:00

I love traditional red, green and gold so I'm having that in my adult lounge and we will have a separate tree in my boy's play room which will be an explosion of colour! Win, win!

SayAGreatBigThankyou · 09/12/2015 09:14

Red, white and silver everywhere! (Have hidden other colours so whatever the kids throw on the tree, it will still look co-ordinated!!!!)

GetKnitted · 11/12/2015 23:52

It is as if the tinsel fairy and her family were on a fairy dust bender.
