Christmas is fast approaching so now is the time to make sure your home is looking fabulous and ready for all the guests and festivities. Valspar would love to hear how you’re planning to ensure your home wows this year.

Valspar says: “The home is at the heart of Christmas, it’s the place where friends and family gather to spend quality time together, so it’s the perfect time to give it a refresh to make sure it’s looking at its best. Valspar’s unique colour matching technology can replicate any colour the eye can see, so whether you hope to spruce up the paint in the hallway in a shade to match a favourite fabric, or create a striking feature wall to match a festive bauble and complement your beautifully decorated Christmas tree, Valspar has it covered. Simply take a colour sample to your local B&Q and the exact shade can be matched in paint form.

Valspar’s super scrub formula also makes it perfect for busy family homes. After the party season, walls can be wiped down and scrubbed clean without chipping or compromising the colour – so whether there’s been a gravy explosion or a cranberry sauce mishap, you don’t have to worry.”

So, do you have a particular colour scheme you're going for when it comes to prepping the home for Christmas? Perhaps you’re going for a neutral theme, with handpicked Scandinavian decorations? Or will you be keeping traditional and filling your home with reds, greens and golds? Maybe you plan to get crafty and make your decorations from scratch?

However you’re planning to decorate this Christmas, Valspar would love to hear about it!

Everyone who adds a comment to this thread will be entered into a prize draw where one winner will receive a £300 Love2Shop voucher.

Thanks and good luck,

we are having a big clean. making house clean and tidy ready for mess at Xmas and space for all new toys. decorations will go up once paint is dry and everything sorted. we also getting new tv to watch Xmas movies on. and the kids are moving bedrooms to have more space

ThemisA · 22/11/2015 17:45

I'm too shattered to do too much but I am moving beds and dusting/vacuuming behind them ready for family visiting. I am making beds up doing a little here and there.

beckyinman · 22/11/2015 17:46

I'm doing a bit clear out of the whole house - three piles. Ebay, charity shop and bin. That way I have an excuse to do a big clear out and deep clean, make some money for presents and make space for the presents the family will receive.

towser44 · 22/11/2015 17:48

We did a full on clean and sort out toys and everything else on Friday. This Friday it is the same in the gardens and shed. Then, we have a week off in early December to decorate the main bedroom. Also have to finish off the kitchen with some painting, new blind and skirting under the units. Finally, having a wood burner put in the lounge, new blind and curtains, wall papering a feature wall and put the TV on the wall. Weekend after that will be ready for the Xmas tree and decorations. Phew!

WowOoo · 22/11/2015 17:50

I am just going to do a deep clean before some friends arrive in late December. They won't be here for Christmas, but decorations will be up.

I have a red and green theme. Beautiful colours - I have some ancient decorations that still looks good. I'll also make a wreath if i can find the wire from last year!
I'd love to give the place a spruce up with some new paint but I don't have the time or the money.

aftereight · 22/11/2015 17:53

I'll be cleaning sll the windows and glass on the light fittings, stocking up on christmassy spiced candles, and putting up as many fairy lights as possible around the house.
Decorations tend to be on a red and white theme, and every year I buy one or two new baubles to add to the collection.
Can't wait!

tiddles12 · 22/11/2015 17:56

I love the Nordic theme so our house i pretty white and clean anyway with the Xmas theme of red and cream running through it in terms of candles, lights, throws and cushions

Ganne1 · 22/11/2015 17:59

Prepping? Scandinavian decorations? Nah, it'll just be a small twinkly artificial tree and some flashing lights. And a small snowman with a light-up nose.Oh sorry, that's my husband.

maryandbuzz1 · 22/11/2015 18:00

We always have a real Christmas tree which we decorate together. I have wooden decorations which have come form Germany and these are always a delight to get out each year.
We also have a Nativity scene which I adore!

chrin · 22/11/2015 18:00

I threw all the ceiling decorations away last year as they were so very old but I have bought window stickers and candles this year and I have numerous fragile glass baubles that are around 60 years old that I loving put away each year and bring them out for the tree.

Obviously the rest is just normal housework and general cleaning

bubbleybooboo · 22/11/2015 18:01

We have been collecting the disney princesses and other Disney characters for the tree from the disney store for a few years now and this year is our first with them all. Our tree will go up along with the children's stockings and various decorations the children have made on the first of December. We have a proper fire this year so it will look so Christmassy! to say im excited is an understatement! Ive made my Christmasy cake today too so the preparations are well on their way

HollybearFluffpuss · 22/11/2015 18:04

I'll have a good sort out of toys and other bits and bobs. I'll do a spring clean and get the decs out from the years prior. I always look out for more decorations and anything new & interesting to add.

As long as the room look clean and tidy for the xmas tree, thats all that matters.

andywedge · 22/11/2015 18:04

We'll be completley going OTT with far too many decorations

winterpark · 22/11/2015 18:05

I always have a spring clean then put up the tree and decorations :)

sandy31 · 22/11/2015 18:06

This year for the very first time we will be away over Xmas, so we will not be decorating as normal. This will be a rare treat.

imw17imw17 · 22/11/2015 18:10

Busy decorating the hall, including updating the stairs.

easter1965 · 22/11/2015 18:15

We have all the family coming over for Christmas, It's a very important time for us as its my daughters birthday christmas week and would have been my dad's the week before so its quite a special time and we are preparing our hallway at the moment. Its the part of the house that gives the initial feeling of Christmas onto the front room so we have re-decorated the hall and stairs and will be buying some new Christmas decorations for the hallway too x

Sallyannlloydjones · 22/11/2015 18:16

A new Xmas tree and luxury silver coloured baubles!

IonaAilidh11 · 22/11/2015 18:18

for the last 13 years have stuck with purple/silver colour scheme, but this year after decorating all year i think i might change and go for a pastel colour, now to hunt some shops selling these!

spottypjs · 22/11/2015 18:24

Love decorations, red, green and gold, lights up and reindeer on the window ledge - love it!

jt75 · 22/11/2015 18:25

Nothing in particular. Just put decorations up.

rogart · 22/11/2015 18:25

Paintwork first, then touch up the paint on the walls, and finish with a general clean and get the decs up.

christinelucey · 22/11/2015 18:27

Just finished decorating and hoping the new carpet will be laid before christmas

prwilson · 22/11/2015 18:48

Just a top-to-bottom clean, then the usual decorations (cat-proofed) and a few outside lights.

Bellroyd · 22/11/2015 18:55

I'll just have my usual de-clutter and put away expensive items in case they suffer during any drunken celebrations.
