Christmas is fast approaching so now is the time to make sure your home is looking fabulous and ready for all the guests and festivities. Valspar would love to hear how you’re planning to ensure your home wows this year.

Valspar says: “The home is at the heart of Christmas, it’s the place where friends and family gather to spend quality time together, so it’s the perfect time to give it a refresh to make sure it’s looking at its best. Valspar’s unique colour matching technology can replicate any colour the eye can see, so whether you hope to spruce up the paint in the hallway in a shade to match a favourite fabric, or create a striking feature wall to match a festive bauble and complement your beautifully decorated Christmas tree, Valspar has it covered. Simply take a colour sample to your local B&Q and the exact shade can be matched in paint form.

Valspar’s super scrub formula also makes it perfect for busy family homes. After the party season, walls can be wiped down and scrubbed clean without chipping or compromising the colour – so whether there’s been a gravy explosion or a cranberry sauce mishap, you don’t have to worry.”

So, do you have a particular colour scheme you're going for when it comes to prepping the home for Christmas? Perhaps you’re going for a neutral theme, with handpicked Scandinavian decorations? Or will you be keeping traditional and filling your home with reds, greens and golds? Maybe you plan to get crafty and make your decorations from scratch?

However you’re planning to decorate this Christmas, Valspar would love to hear about it!

Everyone who adds a comment to this thread will be entered into a prize draw where one winner will receive a £300 Love2Shop voucher.

Thanks and good luck,

Silver and a very pale blue

sarah3875 · 01/12/2015 20:35

Mine is very child friendly! There are handmade bits everywhere!

I've had a sort of the toy boxes and think we are ready to go!

ggjacks · 01/12/2015 20:52

I have just painted my hall stairs and landing in a valspar grey. It looks fab even if I do say so myself! Actually Im most impressed at how it wipes clean so easily, with a wet dog who likes to have a good old shake when she gets home its essential!

Kangakate · 01/12/2015 21:44

Need to sort out some old toys to make way for the new, will be quite a bit for the charity shop and a space will need to be made for the tree on the side to stop little fingers and paws being naughty. Then just a general tidy hopefully, we haven't got anyone coming round so no need to be too spick and span

StandUnderMyUmbrella · 01/12/2015 21:50

I have done many colour themes for christmas but i am sticking to pure white decorations this year. It looks so classy and just fabulous! xx

I'm having a mini clear out in the run up to the festive period. No particular colour scheme for me, just a mix a colours, I think a mish-mash creates a more authentic, homely look!

katieskatie82 · 01/12/2015 23:40

lots of tinsel and gold and red baubles! Making the house look very festive.

deepcmum · 02/12/2015 00:07

a big clear out to the charity shop

Cherryberry1 · 02/12/2015 00:32

We're having a lot of silver and a few drops of icy blue. I also have quite a few candles/Scandi candle burners around the lounge to light up once it gets dark in the evenings.

timmmers · 02/12/2015 04:11

Going for whatever takes least work, there's enough to do. Clean will do fine. :)

goose1964 · 02/12/2015 08:38

have just started our pre christmas clean - it's like spring cleaninf & once that's done our living room is transformed into a silver grotto

cinderellao9 · 02/12/2015 09:00

i did a full declutter and clean in the front room yesterday, i will get the tree and decorations out on friday, ready to put up at the weekend, i usually just throw everything at the tree, our theme is just colourful!!! however this year i might stick to a theme, thinking red and purple maybe

maria08k · 02/12/2015 09:55

With homemade decorations and paperchains...this year im also drying orange and lemon slices in the oven and popping them on the tree so it smells wonderful and looks rustic too.

caz123456 · 02/12/2015 10:05

To prep my home for Christmas I do an in depth clean room by room. I am not one of those people though who throws away toys just to buy more of the same though, buy quality not quantity.

cookinmummy · 02/12/2015 10:11

We recently redecorated the living room in modern bright colours so this Christmas we will updating the decorations with some modern bright baubles to match! Really bright and cheery for the kids :-)

robyn297 · 02/12/2015 11:21

A good declutter first, everything looks so much better when cleared up. Then just a few tasteful decorations that are colour co-ordinated. My husband and I never agree on Christmas decorating, so take turns, its my turn this year. Last year we ended up with a big kitschy tatty mess!

angiehoggett · 02/12/2015 11:35

redecorating the living room but sadly I don't think it's going to be ready for xmas so we'll just tidy up and make do!

glmcall123 · 02/12/2015 12:07

My children insist that we use our traditional decorations in red and gold even though they completely clash with the colour scheme of the house. We'll be redecorating in the new year so I'm looking for inspiration.

topgunmatt · 02/12/2015 12:22

I always use Plain green holly for tucking behind the pictures or making into a wreath which brightens up the room.
Variegated is even better and it’s not so easy to buy in the shops. Don’t worry if your holly doesn’t have any berries – you can always buy fake ones and wire them into place right where you need them Or you could cheat and add a few sprigs or pyracantha or cotoneaster berries, even rosehips, if the birds have left any :)

Jenba590 · 02/12/2015 13:01

I have a red theme as it is my favourite colour, I exchange my turquoise cushion covers and accesssories for some beautiful red & biege fur cushion covers and my beautiful christmas tree with pretty christmas lights that I will use to give a festive feel instead of lamps

laurapotz · 02/12/2015 13:15

I might really push the boat out and hoover under the sofa! Grin

MerryMarigold · 02/12/2015 13:58

Grin Laura. I love that attitude. We're not even having Christmas in our house, I'm that lazy. I've never done Christmas dinner and I am 42.

snare · 02/12/2015 15:04

big christmas tree and lots of decorations :)

maxxximus · 02/12/2015 15:46

We're going green. Everywhere green - holly, pine, spouts...

Ethan260908 · 02/12/2015 16:16

Just the usual, vacuum and polish. That should do it Me thinks
