Christmas is fast approaching so now is the time to make sure your home is looking fabulous and ready for all the guests and festivities. Valspar would love to hear how you’re planning to ensure your home wows this year.

Valspar says: “The home is at the heart of Christmas, it’s the place where friends and family gather to spend quality time together, so it’s the perfect time to give it a refresh to make sure it’s looking at its best. Valspar’s unique colour matching technology can replicate any colour the eye can see, so whether you hope to spruce up the paint in the hallway in a shade to match a favourite fabric, or create a striking feature wall to match a festive bauble and complement your beautifully decorated Christmas tree, Valspar has it covered. Simply take a colour sample to your local B&Q and the exact shade can be matched in paint form.

Valspar’s super scrub formula also makes it perfect for busy family homes. After the party season, walls can be wiped down and scrubbed clean without chipping or compromising the colour – so whether there’s been a gravy explosion or a cranberry sauce mishap, you don’t have to worry.”

So, do you have a particular colour scheme you're going for when it comes to prepping the home for Christmas? Perhaps you’re going for a neutral theme, with handpicked Scandinavian decorations? Or will you be keeping traditional and filling your home with reds, greens and golds? Maybe you plan to get crafty and make your decorations from scratch?

However you’re planning to decorate this Christmas, Valspar would love to hear about it!

Everyone who adds a comment to this thread will be entered into a prize draw where one winner will receive a £300 Love2Shop voucher.

Thanks and good luck,

No particular scheme but I do love multi colour lights on the tree. Got a special angel for the top and then lots of bits and bobs aquired over the years. Some tiny glass baubles my mum had as a child, some wooden, carved nativity scenes from Bethlehem and lots of homemade ones kids have made. Usually make gingerbread decs too as love smell! Always have a real tree, but not sure where to put it this year as new house and no obvious spot. Do like it in window so it can look pretty and cheer people on their way.

MerryMarigold · 29/11/2015 16:39

Oh, and def NO TINSEL. Hate the stuff.

robbo86otm · 29/11/2015 19:26

First of all i will have a good clean and then put up the xmas decorations which are a mix of old ones which have been handed down and modern ones

laurentperrier · 29/11/2015 20:10

Going to start with a deep clean next weekend. Then out come the festive candles and cushions and my Yankee candle scents. We have a real tree so we'll get that a few weeks before Xmas and have it decorated in gold and red. Final touch is the wrapped presents under the tree.

Katiekatiekatiekay · 29/11/2015 22:21

We are hoping to finish the bathroom in time for Christmas. We are painting a shoal of fish swimming around Smile

Princessxo · 29/11/2015 22:26

We always go all out with decorations, and full festive mode, however this year we're having a house renovation coinciding with about Christmas time so although it'll be quite festive, it won't be as much.

AngelDog · 29/11/2015 22:41

Our decoration scheme is 'tacky flashing lights'. Thanks, DH. Hmm

mulgrove · 29/11/2015 22:55

Clean and fresh walls always makes Christmas Better a bit of decorating this last week

marymanc · 29/11/2015 23:16

I am doing some Spring cleaning..in Autumn, cleaning cupboards, fridge, machines, behind furniture, etc. It makes me feel happier to have a clean house before Christmas, ready for the New Year.

We will decorate the house with red and silver.

emmfurn · 30/11/2015 08:51

I love red and gold for Christmas so try to stick to this theme without any silver creeping in ;)

LinnyBee · 30/11/2015 10:22

We are going traditional this year with a warm red and gold theme. I've bought a red throw and some red and gold cushions which make the room feel really cosy.

A good clean round and we'll be ready to put the tree up Grin

We have just had a log burner put in our front room so we shall be doing a bit of painting and decorating before I can put the Christmas decs up. The rest of the house is having a good clean ready for the big day as my children and grandchildren are coming to celebrate with us.

feeona123 · 30/11/2015 12:13

I bought a new few things last year and we went for a red and gold theme. With a toddler and a new baby on the way, I don't have any spare cash to buy new things this year so we will be sticking to the same theme.

Eva50 · 30/11/2015 13:20

We had planned to redecorate the living room before Christmas but having just finished the bathroom, including replacing the bath with a walk in shower, I can't face the cost or disruption of doing anything else.

We don't have a lot of Christmas decorations, just the tree decorations and some bits the boys have made over the years. I have some scented candles and Carol cd's for the atmosphere.

DingleberryFinn · 30/11/2015 19:06

My theme is "colour and kitsch", i.e. chuck anything up and the more it looks like Blackpool illuminations, the better!

Anderson8 · 30/11/2015 19:58

I usually decorate a different room just before Christmas but I'm happy this year so this year im getting new decorations to match the colour scheme in each room

cluckyhen · 30/11/2015 21:40

We're not really sprucing it up - the usual gauntlet of tinsel and decorations to make it sparkle for guests - the joy of 3 cats as well as kids

emmaspeers · 30/11/2015 23:01

This year I have gone for blue, silver and white... I have already put my decs up! I am hoping I get chance to give the living room a lick of paint too and maybe even carpet the living room and stairs if I can afford it. Today I bought a steam cleaner to freshen everything up and give everything a nice deep clean and clean the cooker ready for the big man to visit us

Oh and i have bought plenty of Cinnamon Zoflora too to clean the house so it smells like xmas too! I do this every year as well as a mulled spice air freshener

Lydia30 · 01/12/2015 00:00

We are in the final stages of converting the attic into a bedroom for our 10 year old. She will be in there once the carpet is fitted on the 12th of December and then we have 2 weeks to paint her sisters room and the living room and then we can put the tree up in a lovely bright room

Fettuccinecarbonara · 01/12/2015 12:43

I've just had my new kitchen hand made for me. With 2 kids and a dog we've gone for valspar paint due to its scrub ability! We used grey for the walls.

We then ordered our cupboards from how dens, but wanted our handmade island and dresser top to match, do took a colour sample into the valspar desk and they matched our cream tone EXACTLY! So many people comment on it, and I always recommend both my builder and the paint quality!

ThomasRichard · 01/12/2015 14:19

This year I've swapped our Christmas decoration colour scheme to a traditional red, gold and green. We put the Christmas tree up last night and it looks beautiful.

Hopelass · 01/12/2015 16:20

We are moving house next week (eeeek) to dp's distress and much rolling of eyes I have been out and bought bought a whole new set of Xmas decs to go with the decor of the new living room! I'm looking forward to seeing how they look I've gone for a sort of metallic neutral look i.e Browns, pale golds, slates, creams. The new living room has a feature wall which is a sort of mocha colour. Need new cushions too but not telling DP yet Grin

matphil · 01/12/2015 16:24

I'm going for cream and beige this year with red as an accent colour to go with my decorations.

hocuspocusbark · 01/12/2015 16:38

Yes, we are traditionalists here too, lots of red, gold and green, plenty of church candles - and a real tree! We bought all our decorations in Vienna where we spent our honeymoon. The Christmas Markets there are so pretty and festive.
