Inspired by the new PAN movie, Valspar has created the PAN Palette - a selection of colours which can bring the magic of Neverland to life in your home. Valspar are keen to hear Mumsnetters' top tips for creating a magical themed bedroom for your children.

Valspar says: "A child's bedroom is somewhere they can let their imagination run wild and decorating their space with a magical theme can help fuel their creativity further. The PAN Palette is filled with enchanting colours from the film so allow your child to be inspired by the pink of the fearless warrior, the red of the pirate that all pirates fear and the teal of the mermaid's lagoon. The best thing is that no matter how messy play time gets, Valspar paint contains a super scrub formula which allows walls to be wiped down and scrubbed clean without chipping or compromising the colour."

So, how would you create an enchanted bedroom for your child? Would you paint the night sky on the ceiling? Perhaps you would turn the walls into a chalkboard or add a touch of sparkle with paint glitter? Or maybe you would upcycle furniture to give it a magical new look? Perhaps you've already done it, in which case we'd love to see your pictures too.

Whatever the theme, Valspar would love to hear your tips!

Everyone who adds a comment to this thread will be entered into a prize draw where one winner will receive a £300 Love2Shop voucher.

Thanks and good luck,

We took plywood and made fronts for our kids bunkbeds to the girls had little houses with windows with window boxes and they had a door to go thru to enter and decorated with lots of accessories like picket fence and porch lights.

My top tip is to invest in a wall mural, you can get some really exciting ones. We picked a space scene looking over the earth and moon, we then based everything in his bedroom around the mural. It looks magical.

juju3 · 18/11/2015 13:11

You need to embrace the children in both the design and implementation of the room - and go with their colours rather than your ideas or convention combinations

It's so easy to make a fairy grotto with metres of netting suspended from the ceiling to look like a princess curtain. We use fairy lights festooned safely around to add that enchanted feel to the whole thing!

PhilTB54 · 18/11/2015 18:21

Painted the walls like a jungle type scene , Luminous Fairies & stars on the ceiling . They loved it.

Wall stickers, some sort of den and a magical story area with bean bag.... we have our story area INSIDE the den atm (superhero teepee)

ceroooss · 18/11/2015 20:43

I always think of the scene in the film 'The Holiday' where they go into Graham's children's bedroom and in the middle is a giant, sparkly tent filled with fairy lights, bunting, hanging stars and lots of duvets and cushions. It looks absolutely enchanting and I'm slowly but surely building a similar type of thing in my girls bedroom :)

My daughter has got pink plain walls and bright curtains. It isn't quite finished yet. I would love to have a chalk board painted on one wall. I would also have matching white furniture and patterned bedding. I have drawers that have her toys in.

embabes7 · 18/11/2015 21:43

Think about what your DC wants and likes, and paint it on the wall! (If you're feeling creative!!!) xx

helcrai · 18/11/2015 21:55

I think its important to let your kids take the lead. Let them decorate in colors that they like based on their interests (my DD1 loves fairies therefore pink!). It doesn't take a lot of money- we created a "pixie hollow" by buying some cheap fabric and pinning it up with wooden pegs. Hides the toys and makes for hours of imaginary play. Their own art work on the walls can be colourful and is easy to keep changing for a different look.

marshgirl · 18/11/2015 22:31

My daughter is 13 now so definitely knows her own mind.
City scene is her the theme of her room, she was heavily involved in choosing this. She still loves her Disney though, as elements of this are reflected in her room.

tishist · 18/11/2015 22:35

A net over the bed looks very enchanting, topped off with fairy lights around the room.

GeorgeW78 · 18/11/2015 23:49

Wall stickers are so useful cos you don't have to change wallpaper just paint & stick! A den area is also a must!

lexiemac13 · 19/11/2015 02:25

Seek inspiration from Disney and fairytales. Pinterest is also great and I have spent hours and hours on there planning the decor for every room of my home! Wall murals can look amazing as you can get hold of some really enchanting artwork nowadays and gives a much more magical feel to standard paint or wallpaper!

Shiraznowplease · 19/11/2015 21:36

We have painted both children's room in pale pastel colours. Dis has blue and dad has pink. We have themed the rooms with accessories... Dd has personalised bunting, frozen and princess themed framed posters. Her furniture is white we have added lots of themed accessories like curtains, bedding, lightshadesthat can easily be changed when she tires off these without huge effort or cost

sealight123 · 19/11/2015 22:16

I would love to make my daughter room a underwater room!
I'd have flowing lamps and a large under the sea wall mural. I would also upcycle her bed with a bit of paint too

At the moment, we've kept her room simple by using wall stickers and have glow in the dark stars and planets on the ceiling.
When she hits an age where she doesn't change her mind every week then we'll be decorating her room :)

elvisthehamster · 20/11/2015 23:33

My youngest has a cute baby chick and flowers , and pink and white polka dots theme going on but needs a bit of a refresh as it is has been that way since she was a baby. It is a small room though so easy to transform effectively if it is done right-I can spend hours on Pinterest! She loves drawing and writing and is very artistic so would like to do something along those themes.
DD1 is Ballet mad and has a very girly room , with ballet decor. It ticks all the typical 'girly girl' boxes!
Ds is 11 and also needs a bit of a refresh , his room is quite simple at the moment and has blue and red accessories and a bit of a sporting theme going on but again would like to come up with something new for his as it has been like that for a wee while. I think it is so much easier now to be more creative with materials available and ideas shared over social media.
Actually I think I am now going to head over to pinterest..this thread is really making me want to start redecorating!

Aethelfleda · 24/11/2015 19:40

GLow in the dark ceiling stars, a nightlight star projector, adhesive border rolls, and matching blackout curtains. Jazzes up the plainest of walls. Oh, and self adhesive vinyl decals are fab too!

Daariina · 01/01/2016 00:43

Ahh, we have glow in the dark stickers, stars, planets, amazing wallpaper. It looks terrific if I do say so myself.

Bostin · 02/01/2016 07:35

We have cupboards in the eaves of the bedrooms which the children use as their secret play dens.

NewShoesTwoShoes · 03/01/2016 20:57

I have bought some glow in the dark stars to go in my daughter's room. We have kept walls painted in plain colours and white furniture. The room is bright and easy to change themes with a new duvet cover.

PegsPigs · 04/01/2016 19:28

We aren't very good at decorating but we are good at accessorising. It means a neutral base and DD2.10 can change her mind and we can change the theme as often as we feel inspired. It's currently Thomas with curtains, duvet, cushions, rug and stickers. But it will be Frozen in a few months for her birthday. We've already painted a light purple feature wall and we're accessorising as before but also more sparkle, shine and shimmer to things that can be changed. Glow in the dark stars on the ceiling for example.

villagefox · 10/01/2016 16:08

Reading other people's projects makes me envious as I am not very artistic or have great vision when it comes to decorating. My only success was creating a pirate themed room for my son using wall stickers and finding things such as matching curtains and a treasure chest for his toys.
