Inspired by the new PAN movie, Valspar has created the PAN Palette - a selection of colours which can bring the magic of Neverland to life in your home. Valspar are keen to hear Mumsnetters' top tips for creating a magical themed bedroom for your children.

Valspar says: "A child's bedroom is somewhere they can let their imagination run wild and decorating their space with a magical theme can help fuel their creativity further. The PAN Palette is filled with enchanting colours from the film so allow your child to be inspired by the pink of the fearless warrior, the red of the pirate that all pirates fear and the teal of the mermaid's lagoon. The best thing is that no matter how messy play time gets, Valspar paint contains a super scrub formula which allows walls to be wiped down and scrubbed clean without chipping or compromising the colour."

So, how would you create an enchanted bedroom for your child? Would you paint the night sky on the ceiling? Perhaps you would turn the walls into a chalkboard or add a touch of sparkle with paint glitter? Or maybe you would upcycle furniture to give it a magical new look? Perhaps you've already done it, in which case we'd love to see your pictures too.

Whatever the theme, Valspar would love to hear your tips!

Everyone who adds a comment to this thread will be entered into a prize draw where one winner will receive a £300 Love2Shop voucher.

Thanks and good luck,

My daughter loves owls, I surprised her one day and put wallpaper up on one of her walls whilst she was in school, owls duvet, lamp and black out blind/ curtains. It's so cosy with her bean bag and cushions!!

JoJoBaldwin · 09/11/2015 21:20

Me and DD have just swapped bedrooms and are having great fun turning her new room into a magical space. We haven't much money but some fairy lights from Poundland, whitewashed floorboards and fluffy cushions and throws have made all the difference. And she got a rainbow projector for her birthday which makes it wonderful at night!

foxessocks · 09/11/2015 21:29

My dds room is a lovely buttery yellow colour with wall stickers of elephants and giraffes on one wall by her cot. Then she's got a big picture of a farm on another wall which we got when we went to a festival with her this year and a picture of a little girl in a teepee which my cousins wife made for her, I love those ersonal touches. She's got some shelves up with Beatrix potter animals on and a picture of winnie the pooh. Also some money boxes and ornaments she got when she was born. Lots of cuddly toys dotted about and a big toy box. A nice wardrobe and chest of drawers and a chair for reading stories. Not really a theme I suppose but it's an absolutely lovely little space for her and so cosy. It's my favourite room in my house (mostly because it's the only room we've put that much effort into!!)

Awoof · 09/11/2015 21:31

I know it mightn't be the most popular choice but I let dd chose whatever she likes for her bedroom, cash permitting!
At the moment she has a pop up castle in there, an enormous teddy snake curled up next to a giant pig, fairy lights and pictures she has painted of bugs pinned to the wall.
I suppose that makes it magic to her, that it's all hers and she can used her imagination to play and fall asleep in there :)

My son has a pirate theme in his room. He has a cabin bed with a pirate den underneath complete with treasure chest made out of a wicker hamper basket spray painted gold.

He has a huge pirate flag on one wall, a pirate lightshade and porthole wall stickers.

Whilst it looks fab, it is all removable when he gets older and the walls and general colour scheme are a neutral blue and cream.

kerryv · 09/11/2015 21:59

I love fairy lights and different coloured light bulbs

freefan · 09/11/2015 22:16

I prefer neutral walls then stickers or murals can be added and removed as their tastes change, :) saves having to redecorate the whole room as they grow :)

sweir1 · 09/11/2015 22:17

I have just painted a mural, disastrously might I add, but it all adds to the effect!

Clairescottshug · 09/11/2015 22:34

I involved the kids every step of the way, they have a much better imagination than me and it's their room after all

nazrana82 · 10/11/2015 00:40

wall stickers are great as others have mentioned. my boys room is all cobalt blue with the planets stickers on one side and rocket stickers on the other! not forgetting the rocket themed curtains oh and the rocket lava lamp!... my boys are space mad! :)

happysouls · 10/11/2015 08:30

With my son I used to regularly make dens where we'd use chairs and blankets to create a tent over the mattress on the floor! We had lamps and torches too to make it like an adventure! When he got a bit older we had lots of film posters on the walls which made it pretty exciting.

sjl19 · 10/11/2015 08:31

I've used wall stickers in my both my children's rooms and also made colourful bunting.

CesareBorgiasUnicornMask · 10/11/2015 09:51

We have very plain furniture and walls, white cot sheets and bumpers, but with lots of lovely colourful accessories. DS especially loves his rotating jungle magic lantern, and a starry mobile he got as a christening present. We change around the cuddly toys he has out so he doesn't get fed up.

lhlee62 · 10/11/2015 09:52

I have decorated the bottom of the top bunk with glow in the dark stars, she wants to look at the stars and the moon so we are getting a telescope. I am going to go for a space theme with planets and stars, but I can't bring myself to paint the walls black so it will have to be glow in the dark stickers.

WhatWasThat · 10/11/2015 09:54

Pink princes theme and skater theme for my boy. We used valspar actually and bought the premium colours. Love the range.

sweetsomethings · 10/11/2015 11:18

stickers are great and easy to change up with their ever changing tastes

goodomens830 · 10/11/2015 11:20

I think bright and beautiful is magical. Wall stickers are great because you can change them. Fairy lights are beautiful too and the children love them! If you can, secret drawers or compartments.A tent underneath a mid sleeper. Any secret areas they just adore! Most importantly, let the children have a say!

ann28 · 10/11/2015 13:05

They do these fab little 'fairy doors' that you can stick on your skirting board that look so sweet, it really fuels DDs imagination!!

Greymalkin · 10/11/2015 17:16

DH and our DSs godfather created all the signs of the zodiac out of glow stars of DSs ceiling. Then we looked up the position of all the planets at the time of his birth and positioned glow in the dark planets around the light fitting (the 'sun')

We look up at them last thing at night as we sing twinkle twinkle little star before sleepy time

When he is older it would be nice to use them as a starting point to talk about our world, the solar system, constellations and the Greek/roman myths associated with them,

I was planning on getting him the night light from the science museum that you can programme to mimic the phases of the moon as a finishing touch!

CheeseAtFourpence · 10/11/2015 18:06

We have a bird theme with birdy curtains and wallpaper and a few birds dotted around the room. We have made a cosy fancy dress corner with her costumes, dressing table, make up and hair stuff. She loves it.

daffyd · 10/11/2015 20:42

I want to redo my daughter aged 9 room. she will have input, so far decided butterfly wallpaper on 3 walls and single wall of possible pale grey , with butterfly curtains which she already has, and then a cork board on one wall for all her photos and pictures.

Generation1979 · 10/11/2015 20:42

My daughter would love frozen and my son would love Lego or Minecraft. I'd like a glow in the dark realistic constellation

samosh22 · 10/11/2015 21:19

I painted trees and grass on the walls

VaseandCandle · 10/11/2015 21:39

Lighting is key. I've tried out lots of different lights in my son's bedroom to get the right ambience. Right now we have a led giraffe that has a dozen different light colours and a range of brightness. At the moment, it's on a warm Amber glow and is very cosy.

lindseypie · 10/11/2015 22:21

Boring I know......but having enough storage and teaching your child to tidy away has to be he first step. Having a clean tidy space enables your child's imagination to have space to grow and project.
