Inspired by the new PAN movie, Valspar has created the PAN Palette - a selection of colours which can bring the magic of Neverland to life in your home. Valspar are keen to hear Mumsnetters' top tips for creating a magical themed bedroom for your children.

Valspar says: "A child's bedroom is somewhere they can let their imagination run wild and decorating their space with a magical theme can help fuel their creativity further. The PAN Palette is filled with enchanting colours from the film so allow your child to be inspired by the pink of the fearless warrior, the red of the pirate that all pirates fear and the teal of the mermaid's lagoon. The best thing is that no matter how messy play time gets, Valspar paint contains a super scrub formula which allows walls to be wiped down and scrubbed clean without chipping or compromising the colour."

So, how would you create an enchanted bedroom for your child? Would you paint the night sky on the ceiling? Perhaps you would turn the walls into a chalkboard or add a touch of sparkle with paint glitter? Or maybe you would upcycle furniture to give it a magical new look? Perhaps you've already done it, in which case we'd love to see your pictures too.

Whatever the theme, Valspar would love to hear your tips!

Thanks and good luck,

We made a space theme for our son. We've got glow in the dark stars, moons and planets on the roof. A big rocket sticker which is lovely and colourful placed on top of a deep blue colour. It looks fab. Then we've got a rocket rug, and two star lamps. We think it looks lovely and feels really magical in there for him.

wall stickers, stencils, fairy lights, use of patterned throws to make dens. It can all be done quite cheaply now.

Spencer1234 · 09/11/2015 11:59

I think it's good to have a theme and my son loves making dens so we have made his room into one big den.

make sure they have shelves to display their toys dolls lego etc a book case for their books, nice bright colours on the walls with lovely bedding and a warm nigh light

We are not very artistic in our house but our son has a dinosaur themed room, we have painted the walls one colour and furnished with dinosaur curtains, pictures and bed cover.

As he grows older I would love to be more adventurous but we will decide what to do when he gets a bigger bed.

When I was little, my mum bought glow in the dark stars to stick on my ceiling! It was very atmospheric!

Rcollins91 · 09/11/2015 13:09

Keep the colours cool and have areas in the room eg. reading corner with cushions and teddys. Little table and chairs for activities and drawing and maybe a tent as a secret place.

This is our little boys room I spent quite a lot of time looking on pinterest for inspiration. I would have liked to go a bit brighter with the wall colour but because he has a lot of bits and bobs on the wall I didn't want it to look to cluttered and still have a clean look, although not necessarily the best idea as the lighter it is the more marks it shows :( I want to do my other little boys room next and think I may go for colour on at least one wall this time.

A wall mural and stickers set a great scene and are easily changed as the children age and tastes change.

I can spend hours on Pinterest looking for ideas on how to decorate my childs bedroom. I'm not artistic but would love for her to have an inspiring bedroom as she grows up. One day I'll see a small space that I can copy for her.

BellaWella86 · 09/11/2015 14:11

Wall decals are the best way to (affordably) add some magic to a kids bedroom. Also, glow in the dark wall stars are excellent.

Soosieboo · 09/11/2015 14:31

We had a room that our boys shared. We painted murals on the walls and they had a play tent that they often slept in. Pretending that they were sleeping outside.

asuwere · 09/11/2015 14:32

I've done my DC rooms a few times and they always seem better in my head before I start-not very artistic sadly. I've found a plain background with fun accessories is easier. DC change their mind so wall stickers ate great and easy to change when they want.

feefeegabor · 09/11/2015 14:36

My daughter is a HUGE Harry Potter fan so we painted her bedroom in a light purple - added a selection of HP posters and put up some shelving so she could display her favourite Harry toys.

Use ebay and shop when the sales are on to pick up cheap bits of furniture that can be transformed into dream creations. Then use one wall to paint a mural on that transports your child to their dreams.

Elizasmum02 · 09/11/2015 15:55

My daughter is space mad, when we brought our first house in 2005 we brough huge mdf sheets, paited them navy and drilled little holes, in the holes we threaded led chrstmas lights in, these sheets were then drilled onto wall batoning, we did this on one of the biggest walls in the room, she loved it !

Cailin7 · 09/11/2015 16:05

we let our DCs plan their rooms decor, They had fun picking out paint and covers etc. I did tell them that whatever they chose would be there for a few years so pick something they will love and not get fed up with. When they were younger wipeable paint was essential. We learnt this the hard way after DD practised her drawing skills with a crayon.

feeona123 · 09/11/2015 16:20

Wall stickers are good for this. I have some animals on the wall so not that enchanting but exciting all the same!

Santress · 09/11/2015 16:53

I have use the wallpaper murals in my son's room theatres nightmare to get right but look so good once done and with a few bits of painted furniture and pics can really transform a room

helenmary25 · 09/11/2015 17:25

My husband painted a fairy-tale castle on my daughters main wall and we've added loads of princess accessories and bedding .She loves it.

windowmouse · 09/11/2015 19:31

We put lots of fairy lights up and wall stickers, as I'm not a good enough painter to do freehand

clarem100 · 09/11/2015 19:45

a night sky painted on the ceiling with glow in the dark sticker

compy99 · 09/11/2015 20:51

when older it will be a joint decision, but for the moment we have tried to create a warm nice brightly coloured room, the sort of room you wan to spend time in, but with dark curtains and dimmer switches for the essential sleep and rest time.
