Inspired by the new PAN movie, Valspar has created the PAN Palette - a selection of colours which can bring the magic of Neverland to life in your home. Valspar are keen to hear Mumsnetters' top tips for creating a magical themed bedroom for your children.

Valspar says: "A child's bedroom is somewhere they can let their imagination run wild and decorating their space with a magical theme can help fuel their creativity further. The PAN Palette is filled with enchanting colours from the film so allow your child to be inspired by the pink of the fearless warrior, the red of the pirate that all pirates fear and the teal of the mermaid's lagoon. The best thing is that no matter how messy play time gets, Valspar paint contains a super scrub formula which allows walls to be wiped down and scrubbed clean without chipping or compromising the colour."

So, how would you create an enchanted bedroom for your child? Would you paint the night sky on the ceiling? Perhaps you would turn the walls into a chalkboard or add a touch of sparkle with paint glitter? Or maybe you would upcycle furniture to give it a magical new look? Perhaps you've already done it, in which case we'd love to see your pictures too.

Whatever the theme, Valspar would love to hear your tips!

Everyone who adds a comment to this thread will be entered into a prize draw where one winner will receive a £300 Love2Shop voucher.

Thanks and good luck,

Personalisation! I love seeing bedrooms that reflect children's individual personalities! Whether it be a princess mural on the wall, fairy lights and tiny little fairy doors in hidden corners,.. Or glow in the dark stars on the ceiling, rocket murals on the wall and spaceship dens/forts in corners.

Dessallara - when dd wanted a fairy bedroom we bought these for each bed post and strung fairy lights between three sides

we got my son a midi sleeper, and most of his toys go underneath, he has a little fluffy rug to play on when there out, the stars shine at night, he loves it x

pipersky · 17/11/2015 16:16

Let the kids have a big say, personalise it for them - it doesn't matter if YOU think its enchanted, it matters if THEY do

jt75 · 17/11/2015 16:25

I used glow in the dark stars. For my room too.

We've just done our eldest boys. We've done a very grown up train theme with a gorgeous mural of a track through a forest. He has a lovely station clock, new bunk beds and a desk and chair. He loves it. We've just tried to stick to what we know he'll get the most use and enjoyment from.

Secret dens and fairy lights!

glmcall123 · 17/11/2015 19:06

My youngest wants a fairy kingdom theme so I've been looking everywhere for ideas. I'm involving her every step of the way to make sure it's just what she wants.

Lightly is always a good tip when trying to transform a space into something magical :)

maria08k · 17/11/2015 19:33

Let kiddies put their stamp on their own bedroom...wether it be fairy lights, a hideaway or a canopy over the bed. There is no point trying to force what you think your child may like.

lcorrall88 · 17/11/2015 20:37

We have recently moved, but so far we have made a start on the girl's bedroom and got some Valsper pink paint and some gold glitter. The wall is AMAZING. During the day it mostly looks like a girly pink feature wall. However when the light is on and the light shines on it, it's just magical, it's so sparkly.

Annbunce · 17/11/2015 20:47

The tip is to make it as cosy as possible. We used lots of wall stickers as not very artistic at all unfortunately x

itsali · 17/11/2015 21:23

Battery powered fairy lights are fantastic. You can arrange them anywhere, they're safe and inexpensive. They're deal for turning a bedroom into a magical grotto after lights are out.

robyn297 · 17/11/2015 21:49

Try and keep to the same routine so they know what to expect.

A while ago we read the Rabbit who wants to fall asleep and I think its really helped him. Might have to do a refresher soon, but bedtime got easier and easier while we were reading it.

faybelle · 17/11/2015 21:50

lots of twinkling fairy lights and it is great fun if you can get a small fairy door for the skirting board then when the children have been good and are sleeping small gifts will be left by the door for the children to find, its magical watching their reactions

tab1967 · 17/11/2015 22:06

You can leave the walls a fairly neutral colour and just accessorize everything. You can get some cheap wall stickers and decorations online and depending on your theme you can get lots of soft furnishings such as cushions and duvet covers, if not to match then to coordinate with your theme.

ser01 · 17/11/2015 22:11

mid sleepers and high sleepers are fab, you can do all sorts with that under bed space, turn it into a cave a castle a den, get a slide put on, it really is a great piece for turning a child's room into something fun for them

mamof3boys · 17/11/2015 22:19

We make dens in our boys rooms and work with them on a theme so it's special for them.

GetKnitted · 17/11/2015 22:32

My big DS drapes his duvet over the side of the bed so that the little DS's bed becomes a hidden den. They think it is magical and that is surely what matters Smile

EmmaJDav · 17/11/2015 22:52

I always look for inspiration on the web. There are so many fab ideas such as using wall decals etc. I decided to be brave and sketch, then paint a Frozen scene on my daughters wall (which surprisingly turned out pretty good!)

cluckyhen · 17/11/2015 22:59

Listen to what they want and take note of the rooms they point out on tv. My dd has voiles along the ceiling with special fairy lighting beneath after something she spotted on the box - all for less than £15 but that she adores

Jocelynne123 · 17/11/2015 23:46

Always let your child choose the theme. You might want your little girl to have princess or your little boy to have football but if the both want under the sea then it should be their choice! When my little girl was obsessed with space I stuck the glow in the dark planets and starts not just on the ceiling but on the walls too. To be different I stuck them on in blue tack and I would move some round during the day to make a few different pictures for example make a flower out of stars. When it was bed time, she would be off to bed no problem because she wanted to look for her pictures. I never had any problem with her getting out of bed because she was too happy hunting. Plus I'd never tell her how many pictures id done that day, always different so she would fall asleep looking for more. The best thing was all of this helped her get over her fear of the dark. She liked it darker because then the stars shone brighter xx

I've just finished decorating my sons bedroom on a budget of £50. My top tip to create enchantment is to use lots of fairy lights. These are so cheap considering how much of the room can be brightened up with them and they always look magical.

jamielmdjs · 18/11/2015 00:31

wall stickers are great, a massive mural is better. a jungle scene - with jungle teddies goes down a treat. an under water theme with boat decorations, fish and sunken objects - basically anything they are excited about.

be creative with lighting. make it match the theme - leds and objects that light up make a big difference from a single ceiling bulb.

VickyRsuperstar · 18/11/2015 01:15

We are repainting the girls room and have allowed them to choose the paint (they chose pretty pink which is baby pink) and they wanted a Hello Kitty border. I've asked how else they want to decorate the room and so far we have multi-colored paper flower garlands on the curtain rails that the girls put up there and fairy lights which give a warm magical feel at night and look much nice than a night light. I'd love to paint glow in the dark stars on the ceiling as that would be amazing when the lights go out! We plan on going to Primark and finding some budget cushions and warm furry blankets as bed throws for them.
