The Brassica Growers Association are backing the Love Your Greens campaign and would love to hear your DCs favourite dishes which use a brassica vegetable, which includes: broccoli, kale, swede, Brussels sprouts, turnips, cauliflower, spring greens and cabbages [don’t worry, some of us here at MNHQ didn't know what they were either!]

Here’s what they say, “Greens are great and we want everyone to enjoy them as much as us! As well as tasting great, they’re really versatile and full of goodness. We can’t wait to see the delicious dishes you come up with – it’s time to inspire the nation to love their greens”

So, what’s your DCs favourite dish which includes one (or more!) of the brassica vegetables? Can you share the recipe with us? A vegetable curry perhaps? Maybe a delicious Spanish omelette? Or possibly just a classic bubble and squeak recipe which they particularly like? How about a fab coleslaw using your food processor? The Brassica Growers Association are hoping to launch a recipe book next year and are looking for some inspiration from Mumsnetters and their DCs so feel free to add whatever recipes you may have!

Everyone who posts on the thread will be entered into a prize draw to win a £300 Love2Shop voucher!

Standard Insight T&Cs apply.

Thanks and good luck

Cauliflower cheese with broccoli hmm delicious!

lizd31 · 18/07/2015 15:25

My own version of Broccoli Alla Parmagiana which is broccoli cooked in a tomato & onion sauce topped with mozzarella & parmesan cheese & cooked in the oven

I make my children my own take on a vegetable frittata. If I serve them up vegetables with their dinner they look at me in utter disgust and refuse to eat them. So, I've had to become a little bit sneaky! I make it with bacon, broccoli, cauliflower, kale, potatoes, sweet corn and onion. I place them in an oven proof dish, cover them with an egg and milk mix and cook for about 25 minutes at 180. I then sprinkle it with cheese, drizzle it with barbecue sauce and return to the oven for about five minutes or until the cheese is bubbling. The little monkeys scoff the lot and ask for seconds! X x

Savoury Bread pudding bake.

Needs 3/4 loaf, broccoli, cauliflower, onions. cheese, eggs and milk. in no specific quantities, finely shredded kale, mashed swede can also be added or substituted) grease an ovenproof dish, layer bottom with cubed bread then a layer of veg and repeat. Beat eggs, 3/4 grated cheese a few mixed herbs & seasoning to taste with approx 1/2 ltr milk. Pour over the top, sprinkle with a little extra cheese, cover with foil and leave for a couple of hours. Bake for approx 1 hour at 180 degrees or gas 4. uncover and bake until top is slightly brown & the centre is cooked.leave to stand a few minutes and serve. easily serves 4-5 (lovely with a little garlic salt used in the seasoning if liked)

My kids love Jamie Oliver's cauliflower macaroni cheese, particularly the topping. I add broccoli in as well and the whole lot disappears.

I love to make kale crisps and then have them in a pitta with tahini or houmous. And the best bit about the whole Christmas season is the bubble and squeak on Boxing Day made with the sprouts.

Vals2402 · 18/07/2015 18:32

My kids love cauliflower and broccoli cheese and I usually put some bacon and peas in it to bulk it out!

Mammy22bears · 18/07/2015 18:37

Gosh thats hard to narrow down. I'm very blessed to have two really good eaters.
They are a huge fan of soups. Their favourite two are
Broccoli & cauliflower cheese soup; or
Winter veg (Swede, Leek, carrots, onion) Blended with cream cheese mixed in.
...but they also really like broccoli and cauli in their mashed potato with cream cheese too.
... and homemade coleslaw done with the fine grater.

moonray · 18/07/2015 18:38

The DCs adore mashed cauliflower with roasted garlic and chives!!

Princessnicki22 · 18/07/2015 18:41

Potato rostis made with grated broccoli and Brussels spouts to replace some of the potato in the recipe....x

blondie123c · 18/07/2015 18:53

Cauliflower and broccoli macaroni cheese always goes down well, never any left overs:)

stewaris · 18/07/2015 18:53

Mine love broccoli as I've told them they're eating trees and they must have special powers to be able to do that. Working on cauliflower as I haven't thought of any cool way of conning them about that but I do chop veggies up really small and include them in pies, stews, casseroles etc.

kittykomp · 18/07/2015 19:29

They love it roasted

devito92 · 18/07/2015 19:44

He loves a traditiona roast with broccoli/cauliflower .

rachelmi · 18/07/2015 19:47

Cauliflower cheese with lots of cheese was the only way!

worriedmum46 · 18/07/2015 19:47

My guys love all veg except cauliflower. We make currys, chilli, and pizza vegetarian. The simple fav is stir fried broccoli ( a dash of oil heated up with a clove of garlic, chop broccoli smallish and add to hot oil, takes about three mins to cook through) on penne pasta. Easy and good for them, add grated cheese at table.

mave · 18/07/2015 19:51

My daughters love my cauliflower and broccoli cheese!!

finleypop · 18/07/2015 19:51

My son loves his veg! His very favourite meal though is bubble & squeak, which I often have to make for him specially, rather than just with leftovers lol!! There is always lots of cabbage, broccoli & cauliflower included & he loves it!

TheyGotTheMustardOut · 18/07/2015 19:58

We love brussel sprouts in a butter sauce with grated Parmesan, just delicious.

wobblywindows · 18/07/2015 20:09

Mine will always eat homemade cauliflower cheese. I make up the four cheese sauce mix with organic whole milk or gold top, it thickens up so much better.

StandUnderMyUmbrella · 18/07/2015 20:11

My daughter will eat all her broccoli if it is in a quiche!! xxx
