The Brassica Growers Association are backing the Love Your Greens campaign and would love to hear your DCs favourite dishes which use a brassica vegetable, which includes: broccoli, kale, swede, Brussels sprouts, turnips, cauliflower, spring greens and cabbages [don’t worry, some of us here at MNHQ didn't know what they were either!]

Here’s what they say, “Greens are great and we want everyone to enjoy them as much as us! As well as tasting great, they’re really versatile and full of goodness. We can’t wait to see the delicious dishes you come up with – it’s time to inspire the nation to love their greens”

So, what’s your DCs favourite dish which includes one (or more!) of the brassica vegetables? Can you share the recipe with us? A vegetable curry perhaps? Maybe a delicious Spanish omelette? Or possibly just a classic bubble and squeak recipe which they particularly like? How about a fab coleslaw using your food processor? The Brassica Growers Association are hoping to launch a recipe book next year and are looking for some inspiration from Mumsnetters and their DCs so feel free to add whatever recipes you may have!

Everyone who posts on the thread will be entered into a prize draw to win a £300 Love2Shop voucher!

Standard Insight T&Cs apply.

Thanks and good luck

DD loves broccoli - particularly in a Slimming World pasta bake. Boil the pasta and in last 4 minutes of cooking add the broccoli florets. Meanwhile beat 2 eggs, 300g corrage cheese and 4 tbs quark together. When pasta/broccoli is cooked stir in the eggy ,mix, bung in some tomatoes, sprinkly with some cheddar and put in the oven until golden and bubbling . DH & DD love it and extra Brownie points for me as it's low fat and keeps me on track ;-))

My children are a little bit funny with sprouts but the love broccoli & will happily eat a bowl with a little lemon & butter on as a snack. We also love broccoli cheese with hot ham.

colouringinagain · 29/07/2015 17:26

Hmm mine prefer broccoli simply steamed! I can get them to eat cauliflower if it's hidden in a curry, cabbage if it's sweetened and spiced, but still looking ways to make things like kale more appealing!

sarah3875 · 29/07/2015 21:02

My boys can handle a lot of broccoli if it's in Daddies fish pie! Personally I can eat a plate of greens cabbage at the moment.. pregnancy!

tubbyj · 29/07/2015 22:02

Lucky DC loves broccoli on it's own as a veg

matphil · 29/07/2015 22:36

My son only eats broccoli and he just likes it plain boiled on a plate looking like a tree.

von83 · 29/07/2015 23:11

I make chicken and meditterranean veggies using cauli, broccoli, carrots, swede & spinach, it's a family winner, my eldest 12 y/o son loves it and now my little man who is 1 y/o loves it too!

Cauliflower cheesy bake x

wendybrown · 30/07/2015 09:21

as a vegan - eating greens is not a problem, it's a delight!
stir fried salt and pepper broccoli with spring onion, soya beans and spiralled carrot is a fav in my house.

All are stir fried in sesame oil with a splash of soy sauce (and where desired a bit of chopped chilli pepper) added for taste.

DD (3.2) likes her veg so I'm quite fortunate. One of her favourites is one of the easiest: pasta & broccoli, cooked in the same pan, then drained & some cream cheese stirred through while it's still hot, so it melts the cheese. Served with "cheese sprinkles" (grated cheese) on top. Can also make with any other veg that your DCs like, that can be boiled with the pasta.

sweetnuttydogs · 30/07/2015 10:31

We make either pasta or pasta/spaghetti and add broccoli, cauliflower, sugar snaps and soft cheese our girls love this meal :)

cinderellao9 · 30/07/2015 10:37

my daughter doesnt like vegetables of any kind so it is a mission to include them in her meals without her noticing. however i make burgers with fine grated broccoli in, they look really weird and green before i cook them, but once cooked you hardly notice them and cant really taste them. win win all round!

goose1964 · 30/07/2015 11:26

dd will eat anything with broccoli in it - it's on of the few veg she likes, I thin ham & brocvoli quiche is her favourite though

ser01 · 30/07/2015 14:06

cauliflour cheese with chopped up bits of sprouts :)

marymanc · 30/07/2015 17:04

We love curly kale boiled and then pan fried (for a few minutes) with olive oil, garlic and sesame seeds.

MissPoppins · 30/07/2015 17:20

Kale, roasted in the oven, with chinese 5 spice sprinkled over, tastes like seaweed from the chinese takeaway!

Gilla01 · 30/07/2015 19:57

I always chop veg up extremely small and add to the mince mixture in Shepherds Pie, and that goes down well.

I think the main trick is to chop small and add to bolognaise, etc.

I have been known to juice veg and add the juice to stews and gravy.

linheiner · 30/07/2015 20:09

Cheesy Pasta, Broccoli and Tuna Bake - extra cheese sprinkled on top and baked until golden - delicious and always a firm favourite!

baconbap · 30/07/2015 20:51

cauliflower cheese

dandanrawlings · 30/07/2015 21:03

Mine likes a mini roast dinner, with Brussels sprouts of course

Monica101 · 30/07/2015 21:07

Mashed turnip with plenty of butter is a toddler favorite in my house.

andy07 · 30/07/2015 21:59

My youngest has severe sensory difficulties so vegetables are a massive no go. So to get veg into her I have to cook and mash it all down I add cauliflower to what we have to call pie which is in fact fish pie (but she wouldn't eat it if we call it fish pie). she doesn't really do colours so cauliflower is one that I can get away with.

winkymcwinkle · 30/07/2015 22:01

Pasta with broccoli and cheese always goes down well

gillyweed · 30/07/2015 22:09

This doesn't sound that interesting but honestly it's AMAZING!

Chop Brocolli into bit size pieces, place on a olive oil roasting tray, drizzle a bit more oil over the top and sprinkle with chilli flakes and grated parmesan (you don't need much), finally a squeeze of lemon juice and lob it in the oven till golden brown. The Brocolli takes on the most wonderful charred flavour, delicious! Wink

robyn297 · 30/07/2015 22:29

I hide cauliflower in macaroni cheese, its always a winner!
