The Brassica Growers Association are backing the Love Your Greens campaign and would love to hear your DCs favourite dishes which use a brassica vegetable, which includes: broccoli, kale, swede, Brussels sprouts, turnips, cauliflower, spring greens and cabbages [don’t worry, some of us here at MNHQ didn't know what they were either!]

Here’s what they say, “Greens are great and we want everyone to enjoy them as much as us! As well as tasting great, they’re really versatile and full of goodness. We can’t wait to see the delicious dishes you come up with – it’s time to inspire the nation to love their greens”

So, what’s your DCs favourite dish which includes one (or more!) of the brassica vegetables? Can you share the recipe with us? A vegetable curry perhaps? Maybe a delicious Spanish omelette? Or possibly just a classic bubble and squeak recipe which they particularly like? How about a fab coleslaw using your food processor? The Brassica Growers Association are hoping to launch a recipe book next year and are looking for some inspiration from Mumsnetters and their DCs so feel free to add whatever recipes you may have!

Everyone who posts on the thread will be entered into a prize draw to win a £300 Love2Shop voucher!

Standard Insight T&Cs apply.

Thanks and good luck

We absolutely love fried cabbage with bacon, my kids absolutely love it and it Is the only way I can get them to eat any vegetables.

smit23 · 30/07/2015 22:46

suprisingly they'll eat cabbage with anything.. no idea why but I'm happy about it! Long may it last!

My DS loves broccoli and cauliflower with other veggies (peppers, carrots etc) which I've seasoned and added a splash of soy sauce to which are the roasted in the oven, accompanied by a vegetable gravy and salmon. My DD on the other hand won't entertain many veggies at all. May need to cook them, blitz them and add to sauces for various meals Shock

My daughter eats just cheesy broccoli pasta, nothing else with brassica vegetables :/

My 2 adore veggies. They love my homemade lasagne wich I always add broccoli to as a way of adding some extra goodness in for them

Vegetables in cheese sauce - whack everything in, make cheese sauce, chuck it under the grill for 5 mins. Viola!

VickyRsuperstar · 31/07/2015 07:54

My kids all time fave has to be broccoli and cauliflower cheese and we vary the recipe sometimes we add chopped ham or bacon. It's also nice if you chop and fry a red onion and then add it into the mix.
Cabbage we tend to have white cabbage chopped up raw in a homemade salad or coleslaw mix which always goes down well with the kids.

Lots of brassicas...

Cheesy broccoli bake. Boil and drain the broccoli , draining carefully and then put in oven proof dish. Make a cheese sauce, pour over broccoli, add extra cheese on top, put under grill until bubbling and serve.

Vary this with cauliflower, or mised, add ham, tomato, mustard, to choice.

Delicious kale, by itself or as bruschetta.

Boil kale until soft. In a frying pan fry gently onions, garlic, a few chilli seeds. When kale soft, drain and add to pan for a few minutes. While doing so, toast Italian or dour dough bread, or French baguette. When done, put kale mixture on top. Yum. Even kale haters love this.

Excellent news. I shall put an allocation of that aside for frozen brassicas from Iceland.

BlueNile57 · 31/07/2015 11:37

Vegetable curry, I can put any veg in there and no one notices and every scrap gets eaten! :)

TiggersAngel7774 · 31/07/2015 12:26

My son has aspergers so food and textures has always been a huge issues.
He eats corn on the cob or sweetcorn and no other veg not even potatoes unless as french fries.
Hes 7 and we do try , his fav meal is sweetcorn and pasta

Flossiecrossie · 31/07/2015 12:45

I'm pretty lucky as my little one tends to eat what is put in front of her, but on those occasions where I think there might be difficulty I will break up the vegetabe such as broccoli and "hide" it on a cottage pie.

ElizaW922 · 31/07/2015 13:48

I do have to be inventive. I make cabbage and beetroot rice (a food processor is a must in my house!) I also use a spiralizer to make carrot and courgette 'spaghetti' in a lovely bolognese sauce, with a range of vegetables chopped up (whatever comes in my organic delivery box). The gentle addition of herbs and spices also helps.

jcalel80 · 31/07/2015 14:46

my little ones all love cauliflower cheese finished under the grill so the cheese topping is lovely and crispy

Clairemike21 · 31/07/2015 17:48

Brocolli in cheese sauce

nanoobaku · 31/07/2015 18:06

hannahlw85 · 31/07/2015 23:54

Cauliflower Cheese. I loved it too as I was growing up, my mum always did hers from scratch so I make the same recipe
