The Brassica Growers Association are backing the Love Your Greens campaign and would love to hear your DCs favourite dishes which use a brassica vegetable, which includes: broccoli, kale, swede, Brussels sprouts, turnips, cauliflower, spring greens and cabbages [don’t worry, some of us here at MNHQ didn't know what they were either!]

Here’s what they say, “Greens are great and we want everyone to enjoy them as much as us! As well as tasting great, they’re really versatile and full of goodness. We can’t wait to see the delicious dishes you come up with – it’s time to inspire the nation to love their greens”

So, what’s your DCs favourite dish which includes one (or more!) of the brassica vegetables? Can you share the recipe with us? A vegetable curry perhaps? Maybe a delicious Spanish omelette? Or possibly just a classic bubble and squeak recipe which they particularly like? How about a fab coleslaw using your food processor? The Brassica Growers Association are hoping to launch a recipe book next year and are looking for some inspiration from Mumsnetters and their DCs so feel free to add whatever recipes you may have!

Everyone who posts on the thread will be entered into a prize draw to win a £300 Love2Shop voucher!

Standard Insight T&Cs apply.

Thanks and good luck

CAULIFLOWER CHEESE WITH PASTA YUMMY

G1veMeStrength · 27/07/2015 08:15

Spring greens shredded and stir fried with chilli are delicious. DS's mate favourite veg is cabbage so we invite him round to be cheerful about veg every now and then. It rubs off well :)

my kids are big fans of bubble and squeak - can use any or all of the brassica veggies, and its a great way to use up leftovers!!

my dc love Brocolli and cauliflower cheese home made with surprisingly strong mature cheese in sauce and sprinkled on top which then goes crispy in the oven they will eat this till the cows come home and the good thing is i sneek in some onion and also tiny chopped mushrooms which they don't even notice which makes a great dish for keeping their bowels on the move as well

Broc P it's called in our house:
Tip tin of anchovies into frying pan & add couple of cloves of garlic & 2 dried chillies
Meanwhile boil broccoli til Al dente, remove broccoli, pat dry, save water to cook the pasta.
Add broccoli to frying pan, add pasta to pan and cook. Mix drained pasta into broccoli mix added a ladleful of cooking water if it needs a bit of liquid.
Serve with plenty of parmesan

We love to make broccoli, cauliflower and macaroni cheese!

cheryl100 · 27/07/2015 20:29

Pasta with broccoli and fried brussel sprouts in a tomato sauce with a hint of basil! Doesn't sound particularly nice but my son loves it! discovered it one day when using up leftovers :)

artex · 27/07/2015 21:12

Stir fried broccoli florets with smoked tofu & pumpkin seeds is our favourite vegan dish. We're not even vegetarian, but really enjoy it!

starfishmummy · 27/07/2015 22:30

I can't really share a recipe....just boil or steam and ds loves them. Only last night the words "May I have some more greens" were uttered.

Goodness! I didn't know what a brassica was too!

I make use of cauliflower when I make an Indian street food called pav bhaj .

You boil cauliflower, potatoes carrots and aubergines and then blend into a thickish mixture.
In a separate pan, add oil and fry onions till soft. Add tomatoes and pav bhaji masala which is available in Indian grocers. Add this to the veg mixture and serve on warm toasted bread buns with coriander, chopped pepper and coriander !

Yummy!

My daughter loves Sprouts - so much so that I once had to take her out of a restaurant where she was throwing a tantrum over having to share them with the rest of out table

Classic cauliflower cheese but with broccoli added in too.

Bellroyd · 28/07/2015 16:18

Roasted leftover vegetables in olive oil with steamed broccolli scattered over the top of the dish for the last 30 minutes. Tasty!

emily13 · 28/07/2015 16:52

Cauliflower mash - although I tend to keep quiet about the cauliflower!

grannybiker · 28/07/2015 20:07

My daughter is a FUSSY eater. It's so hard to get veg in her. But she does love cheese! So one of her favourite meals is cauliflower cheese (thankfully!)
