Warner Brothers have asked us to find out what Mumsnetters and their DCs think of the trailer for the upcoming movie Pan, releasing in Cinemas on October 16th.

Here's what Warner Brothers have to say, "Peter (Levi Miller) is a mischievous 12-year-old boy with an irrepressible rebellious streak, but in the bleak London orphanage where he has lived his whole life those qualities do not exactly fly. Then one incredible night, Peter is whisked away from the orphanage and spirited off to a fantastical world of pirates, warriors and fairies called Neverland. There, he finds amazing adventures and fights life-or-death battles while trying to uncover the secret of his mother, who left him at the orphanage so long ago, and his rightful place in this magical land. Teamed with the warrior Tiger Lily (Rooney Mara) and a new friend named James Hook (Garrett Hedlund), Peter must defeat the ruthless pirate Blackbeard (Hugh Jackman) to save Neverland and discover his true destiny—to become the hero who will forever be known as Peter Pan. We'd love to know Mumsnetters' thoughts on the trailer.”

You can watch the trailer here:

So what did you think of the trailer? What are your thoughts on the characters? What about your DCs? Would you see it in 3D? Which part of the trailer did you like the most? Do you think you’ll be likely to take your DCs to see the film when it’s released?

Whatever your thoughts, Warner Brothers would love to hear about them!

Everyone who posts on this thread will be entered into a prize draw where one winner will receive a £300 Love2Shop voucher.

Thanks and good luck,

It's too dark in tone for my 3yo DD, but then most films are! I'd consider it myself - the trailer looks like the children are good actors, and the plot has plenty of action. I'm not too keen on spin offs from books though.

girliefriend · 17/07/2015 16:51

I think it looks really good, dd (9yo) said she thinks it looks cool!

Yes would be tempted to take dd to see this, I thought the effects looked fantastic and the concept of where did Peter Pan come from is interesting.

Favourite part of the trailer was the pirate ship being steered through the sky.

teddygirlonce · 17/07/2015 18:20

It looks great to me although we've seen the trailer (a couple of months go?). It would make a great Mumsnet film preview (hint hint). Not sure about it being 3D though - not convinced it ever really delivers....

TrollTheRespawnJeremy · 17/07/2015 18:28

Dd seen the trailer for this at the cinema and was very excited. She's not long seen Hook for the first time and loves the stories of Peter Pan.

Hopefully this will be a good film for all ages as I imagine I'll have to see it a good few times in future

fld14 · 17/07/2015 18:32

The film looks like its going to be very exciting. Im not a fan of 3D but think it would be a good film to see in 3D with all the action and ships flying etc. I like all the actors. Peter is very good as is Hook who is quite scary as he is supposed to be. The film looks packed full of action which I love and I cant wait to see it.

As a mum and a film enthusiast with fond memories of some of the previous adaptations of Peter Pan, I can see what this film is going for, and it doesn't appeal to me. The fantasy elements seem a little OTT and I'm not a huge fan of CGI - though I can see the crocodile does benefit from CGI. The storyline I find interesting and the first part of the trailer does get one's hopes up, however, it's the visuals that put me off taking my kid to see this film. I am also no fan of 3D and prefer to see 2D where possible.

LuckyBluie · 17/07/2015 20:22

My son seems captivated and so am I. Cant wait to watch this at the cinema! Would prefer it in 2D though Smile

apprenticemum · 17/07/2015 20:43

Can't wait to see it although I have a deep affection the the 2003 Peter Pan.
Special effects look great!

arat · 17/07/2015 20:50

I thought it looked promising, but DD (8) wasn't convinced! Difficult to pin down why - the closest I could get was that it was more of a boys film.

Anononooo · 17/07/2015 20:53

We like the CGI effects, especially the stars and the shark. DC are very excited. The ref to Harry Potter gets their juices going, Too me it look like a cross between Avatar, Harry Potter, Pirates of the Caribbean. Looks exciting and a great visual spectacle. We will be seeing it in cinema in 3D.

Anononooo · 17/07/2015 20:54

I mean croc not shark...duhhh.

Maclairey · 17/07/2015 20:58

I am not a big fan of fantasy so I don't think it's for me. My husband would love it though (he is also a boy that never grew up!). My children are too young and are still at the peppa pig viewing stage.

happysouls · 17/07/2015 21:00

It looks fantastic, really exciting and dramatic! I'd love to see it! But we don't see films at the cinema because of the cost. It would have to be waiting for it to come out on Bluray and then making an occasion of watching it at home, with popcorn!

savo888 · 17/07/2015 21:41

It looks visually stunning and I would imagine it'll be breath-taking in 3D. The little boy in the film looks brave and defiant. Believe it or not I've never read the story of Peter Pan and neither has my DS. So this would be someting we can discover together (even though from what I've read on the comments it is not the same). In the trailer I liked the part where the ship was turned to its side to go under the oncoming ship that's on fire. I normally avoid cinema due to the cost but I can tell this is something that will be spectacular on the big theatre screens.

toodles60 · 17/07/2015 21:43

i don't know why but the trailer was enough to put me of the film. Although the special effects look good there was just no connection to the boy playing Peter Pan or Hook. Past Pans and Hooks such as Dustin Hoffman from Hook and the wonderful Jeremy Sumpter from 2003 Pand draw you into the plot. They have charisma. This movie although showing in the trailer many great special effects just seems to be too far a move from the original book. Not for me.

Too scary for my 5 they love the cartoon though .

booberry · 17/07/2015 22:14

I think it looks really exciting, very colourful and fanciful. I never liked the original Peter Pan, never cared much for the book or the movie, but I would definitely give this movie a try.

clopper · 17/07/2015 22:42

I think it looks great . Lots of action and an unusual twist on the original story line. Maybe some children will be a bit frightened of the crocodile. I think my 12 year old will love it and I'm looking forward to seeing it.

rennie1811 · 17/07/2015 22:45

my 8yo is quite excited by this having just read the story and seen other Peter Pan movies she likes the thought of this being the before rather than another version. Not to sure whether we would see it in 3d but that's more because I wear glasses and find 3D awkward to watch. My daughter loves the sparkly tink bit in the preview and liked being frightened y the crocodile.

emella · 18/07/2015 04:42

Seen this before and we like the look of it! My DD isn't quite as young as she used to be, then again neither am I! We tend to love this kind of thing though. I reckon it'll be one of those movies where it's either a big hit or a miss, just due to the whole overhaul of the original story. Got a good cast and the feel of it is good, so hopefully it's a hit! I like the music too, I'm all about the music!

It looks like it would be a bit frighteningly for young children, mine are 10 and older though and Id definitely take them to see it.
The special effects look great, it's a new twist on an old story and its8 got Hugh Jackman in it, who's always a quality actor.
Best bit of the trailer, the giant crocodile coming out of the water.
Funniest bit, Rooney Mara's headress...

I'm not sure about this from the trailer - the character stuff seems like it might be a bit formulaic. Visuals look great, but we've all seen (or avoided seeing) tedious films with great visuals - I'll withhold judgement until I read the reviews.

One DC has visual issues so unfortunately we won't be watching in 3D which is a shame because I'm sure it will look fabulous.

Best bit for me was the crocodile. Best bit for DS (10) was the flying ship battles: he said "The premise looks intriguing" which is high praise.
