Warner Brothers have asked us to find out what Mumsnetters and their DCs think of the trailer for the upcoming movie Pan, releasing in Cinemas on October 16th.

Here's what Warner Brothers have to say, "Peter (Levi Miller) is a mischievous 12-year-old boy with an irrepressible rebellious streak, but in the bleak London orphanage where he has lived his whole life those qualities do not exactly fly. Then one incredible night, Peter is whisked away from the orphanage and spirited off to a fantastical world of pirates, warriors and fairies called Neverland. There, he finds amazing adventures and fights life-or-death battles while trying to uncover the secret of his mother, who left him at the orphanage so long ago, and his rightful place in this magical land. Teamed with the warrior Tiger Lily (Rooney Mara) and a new friend named James Hook (Garrett Hedlund), Peter must defeat the ruthless pirate Blackbeard (Hugh Jackman) to save Neverland and discover his true destiny—to become the hero who will forever be known as Peter Pan. We'd love to know Mumsnetters' thoughts on the trailer.”

You can watch the trailer here:

So what did you think of the trailer? What are your thoughts on the characters? What about your DCs? Would you see it in 3D? Which part of the trailer did you like the most? Do you think you’ll be likely to take your DCs to see the film when it’s released?

Whatever your thoughts, Warner Brothers would love to hear about them!

Everyone who posts on this thread will be entered into a prize draw where one winner will receive a £300 Love2Shop voucher.

Thanks and good luck,

I thought the trailer was quite long with a lot of the plot being revealed, I almost feel like I don't need to see the film now; I realise that the Peter Pan story is and should be well known but I like to enter the cinema not quite knowing what the film is to entail, I feel that more tension would have been built if the appearance of the crocodile hadn't been revealed until the showing of the film.....
I would see it in 2d as 3d gives me a headache and my little one who's 2 years would appreciate a film such as this yet so I would probably only actually pay to see it if my husband was desperate too, otherwise I would wait until it was on sky.

maryandbuzz1 · 17/07/2015 07:24

WOW this looks great. We'll definitely be going to see it. The graphics are wonderful and special effects superb. An interesting take on a well known story.

jt75 · 17/07/2015 07:43

Some scenes appeared too dark but it looks like a great action film with good effects.

barbsbarbs · 17/07/2015 08:04

all I can say is wow, this film has taken an entirely new slant on peter pan. There is loads of action. I love it when the boy is on the edge of the cliff and when the ship avoids the other ship by turning on its side. It seems to have a poignant message about the film which helps the viewer to be bought into the story

CMOTDibbler · 17/07/2015 08:10

Ds liked the look of it, but I confess that stuff put in just for the 3D effect does get on my nerves

stewaris · 17/07/2015 08:14

After watching it I think I would give if a miss. However, I think the kids would love it and unless I can persuade the OH looks like I'll need to take them.

suzyq50 · 17/07/2015 08:31

Wasn't surprised to see "from the Harry Potter studio" pop up as it does have that feel.

Special effects overload i thought, hope the story line isn't weak as a result.

The director Joe Wright usually focuses on adult dramas so it will be interesting to see how he deals with a younger audience.

I didn't recognise Hugh Jackman.

finleypop · 17/07/2015 08:31

The trailer did not grab me from the start as I found it quite dark, which made me want to turn it off. However, I stuck with it & I am glad that I did. The story looks like a very interesting & exciting spin on the classic tale. I love the teaser that sometimes friends start out as enemies & enemies start off as friends, it suggests great twists in the story which has me wanting to see more.

The film looks packed full of action & adventure, so perfect for today's children, who might turn up their nose at Peter Pan the original, but would be enthralled by the excitement of this reworking of the fairy tale. I think my 12 year old son would be keen to watch it.

Heyerfan · 17/07/2015 08:35

I think a prequel is a good idea and the film looks good. Don't however watch 3D and will probably await video release as cinema soooo expensive!

nlbrophy · 17/07/2015 08:51

I think it looks fantastic, really magical, however that's because I'm familiar with the original and so it's more like an add-on for me. I'm finding children watch these movies without any basis of understanding to the original. This happened with the great and powerful oz recently with some children I knew who just had no idea of any of the characters, for them it was a whole new story. Are we doing the classics any favours? As i said though, for someone who knows it it's fantastic. I know I will enjoy it myself.

shaunying · 17/07/2015 09:25

Visually it looks amazing, Our son is probably too young to watch it this year, but when it comes out on DVD then I think he'll appreciate it more.
In the meantime I think his mum and da might be having a trip to the cinema to watch it!

Keletubbie · 17/07/2015 09:59

I'm on the fence. I am the right age to still adore Hook.

I do like the look of this, but I think I'll wait until it's on Ch5 on Sunday afternoon.

izbiz88 · 17/07/2015 10:25

Well! My eldest daughter is a massive fan of all the Peter Pan remakes, including Hook. It's a wonderful story and I really like the look of this. I don't think it will change the story as much as add a new dimension to it. It looks really interesting, exciting and fun and exactly the kind of thing that my daughter would love! She's also a massive fan of Harry Potter so I can imagine she will love all of the action and adventure which Warner Bros are clearly so good at!

I will definitely take her to see this - not sure yet whether or not we will watch it in 3D though it certainly looks like it was made for it!

piltshire · 17/07/2015 10:37

Wow, what a trailer, has you hooked from the start. This is going to be a truly classic film. Good cast, wonderful animation and sublime graphics.

vixxx666 · 17/07/2015 10:40

I probably wouldn't see it in 3D for personal reasons (gives me a migraine) but the films looks pretty good! I think it looks a little bit dark and gloomy and might freak my kids out a little bit to be honest! I LOVE Tiger Lily's hair!

julieef · 17/07/2015 10:41

This film looks amazing, and I cannot wait to see it let alone children,
the graphics are fab, and I bet it is wonderful in 3D
and as it is made in the same studio as Harry Potter what more could anyone ask for.
cannot wait and will be getting the DVD when it is out

BellaVida · 17/07/2015 10:44

It looks like a film with strong characters and plenty of action, but my main thought was that it was a bit dark and scary for younger children. 3 of mine are real fans of the Peter Pan story, but whilst the trailer has a strong fantasy lean, it just didn't seem 'magical' in the same way. The concept is good, but the trailer pretty much tells the whole plot. I guarantee my 5 year old would cry, but my older 3 would probably enjoy it.

lizd31 · 17/07/2015 10:45

Great trailer, made me want to see more. I've loved all the previous Peter Pan films & this one may prove to be even better than those before. The special effects look amazing & I can't wait to see it...hope it's in 3D

PerspicaciaTick · 17/07/2015 10:58

The film looks wonderful and like something which both my 11yo and 7yo might enjoy (me too!).

But we are all huge Peter Pan fans - and I'm really, really worried that this prequel won't fit in with the backstory of Peter as JM Barrie told it. The little boy who ran away from his parents because he heard them talking about him becoming grown up - how does that fit into him being in an orphanage? And have they managed to keep hold of the fact that Peter is rather an immoral, egotistical monster with the emotional maturity of a toddler - despite being awfully attractive.

PerspicaciaTick · 17/07/2015 11:00

P.S. We probably won't see it in 3D. I wear glasses and my 7yo doesn't like the 3D glasses - so between us it tends to get a bit fidgety and uncomfortable.

Lyn36 · 17/07/2015 11:00

It looks very dramatic and exciting! My daughter likes the mermaids and my son likes the swordfighting. I like that it tells the story before the one we are all familiar with, I dont think we need any straight remakes of Peter Pan for some time! I would check before going to the cinema to see that it would be suitable for my 7 and 10 years old, i.e. no deaths of favourite characters, no graphic violence/injuries, as I don't always agree with ratings given to films. If I give it the all clear from reading other reviews of the film, then it will definitely be on our 'to watch' list.

samcornfield · 17/07/2015 11:01

My son and my DH love the trailer but my daughter (9) was scared. I think this is a film that is actually more appealing to an adult audience. I won't be taking the children but my husband may take my son to see it in 3D at the cinema.

mave · 17/07/2015 11:05

My husband and 10 year old would love this while I stay at home with the little one! The special effects look amazing!

Belleview · 17/07/2015 11:05

A hodgepodge of LOTR meets Pirates of the Caribbean meets Philip Pullman etc etc.
even the music is derivative.

No, not interested.

00100001 · 17/07/2015 11:11

So what did you think of the trailer? A little uninspiring

What are your thoughts on the characters? Don't really find blackbeard very fearsome. Pan a bit... wet.

What about your DCs? They thought it was OK

Would you see it in 3D? No, hate 3-D films, they tend to be 3-D for the sake of it, rather than to add to the film, plus they're more expensive... ,aking cinema a 6really^ expensive trip out. :(

Which part of the trailer did you like the most? err....

Do you think you’ll be likely to take your DCs to see the film when it’s released? I won't take them, but they might go with a friend if it comes out at cinema clubs on a weekend
