The team at Vision Direct would love to hear how pregnancy has impacted on your contact lens & glasses wearing habits.

Vision Direct say: “As the UK’s biggest online provider of contact lenses and eye care products, Vision Direct is here to help you enjoy comfortable, healthy vision for less. Our fast delivery, low prices and 7 days a week UK-based customer service are all designed to make things a little easier to manage during the busiest times. Pregnant women often find their eyes change due to shifting hormones and metabolic rates or water-retention (no one’s favourite pregnancy symptom!) We’re always here to help should you need to change your lenses, and you can return them quibble-free."

How has your pregnancy altered the way you wear glasses or contact lenses? Did you find that your eyes were drier and if so, did you try eye drops? Maybe you invested in a new pair of glasses or changed the type of contacts you wear, or perhaps nothing much changed for you.

Share your thoughts – whether your eyesight changed or not Vision Direct want to hear from you; even if you don’t wear glasses or contact lenses.

Everyone who posts a comment will be entered into a prize draw to win a Kindle Fire HDX tablet and a £50 Amazon voucher for filling it with apps, games, movies & music!

Please note that Vision Direct may use your comments – anon of course- on their MN pages, social media or possibly elsewhere; only post if you’re happy with this.

Thanks,

I didnt notice any change during pregnancy but definitely afterwards - my eyes were much drier and i couldnt wear my lenses for such extended amounts of time. This may have just been down to lack of sleep though!!

del2929 · 02/06/2015 09:58

i dont think i had any issues during my pregnancies with vision. Although if i did wear glasses i have to say i am petrified of contact lenses and i would not pick to wear them.. eek lol

bmbetu · 02/06/2015 14:17

My actual prescription changed (deteriorated) and so was encouraged to have another eye test after baby was born. My eyes became VERY dry and I was advised to use over the counter comfort drops, and wear my glasses more and contacts less. After baby was born, my eyes became so dry I ended up at a hospital eye specialist who prescribed steroid treatment to get them back under control. They've never recovered to what they were, and I now wear glasses more and use special moisturizing contacts for dry eyes just when I am going out somewhere special and don't want to wear my glasses.

fridaykitten · 02/06/2015 17:51

Ive not had any changes to my eyes/eyesight in pregnancy either time - continued with the same prescription glasses for distances as usual.

Maddaddam · 02/06/2015 18:57

I wore contact lenses for 3 pregnancies and no, didn't notice any change in eyesight or dryness.

My eyes got steadily worse over the years, but especially in years when I was doing a lot of reading/computer work. Not in the pregnancy years when I probably did less of that.

My eyes have generally been ok. I've been a contact lense wearer since 14 and needed glasses since seven. As I hate wearing glasses I have still tended to ignore them for my lenses throughout being pregnant. However, I have noticed my eyes have felt drier at times and it's a relief to know they are there when I need them.

Interestingly, my vision express optician noticed at week nine of my pregnancy my astigmatism had slightly got better and we put it down to water retention. I'm expecting it to return to its normal state after I give birth.

RedBushedT · 02/06/2015 19:27

I was short sighted since being a teenager. Following my second pregnancy I thought my eyesight had deteriorated due to constant headaches and eyestrain.
Turns out my eyesight HAD changed during pregnancy.

I'm now back to near 20/20 vision. I no longer need glasses Grin

lolapops1 · 02/06/2015 21:07

Eyes felt really itchy and dry, would get really tired eyes as well and often have to take glasses off to readjust.

Rebuslover · 02/06/2015 21:13

First pregnancy: developed dry eyes and as an avid soft contact lens wearer, resorted to glasses 24/7.
Second pregnancy: Eyes were ridiculously dry and was using eye drops for comfort. During the last trimester, prescription changed from -5.75 to -4.75 both eyes and the optician chose not to sell me new lenses for my glasses as they thought the change in script was temporary. Alas it was not, had my eyes retested six months postpartum and it remained quite different to my pre pregnancy stable prescription before baby number one.
Third pregnancy: still to see how things develop as I am not quite into third trimester. Hoping nothing changes too drastically after just forking out for two new pairs before falling pregnant again!

NewNameFor2015 · 02/06/2015 22:42

My eyes were dryer during pregnancy, I started a contact lense trial before I found out I was pregnant and the lenses kept snapping. I tried 3 different types and none solved the problem :( I tried again after pregnancy but my eyes were still too dry and I struggled to get the lenses out.
Hoping to try again now he is a year old :)

Mummageddon · 03/06/2015 06:41

I wore contact lenses every day when pregnant the first time and did not notice any difference. My eyesight was the same as ever and no dryness etc..
I had to stop wearing them after the baby arrived as he was a terrible sleeper and my lack of sleep made it uncomfortable, plus I would take 10 min naps in the day whenever possible so contacts were inconvenient!
I ended up moving back to glasses and now I just keep a pack of daily disposables for wearing on the odd night out (very rare these days!)

jomarise · 03/06/2015 20:49

My eyesight got worse after having two children. I need contact lenses to see anything at all now.

Miaow1234 · 03/06/2015 21:05

I found my eyes were more sensitive but my migraines reduced. Drops were useful when they felt dry.

katieskatie82 · 04/06/2015 19:15

i've worn reading glasses for a while now! But my baby brain when pregnant really affected my ability to find my glasses! Most of the time id be searching the whole house to find them on top of my head!

ChampagneShowers · 05/06/2015 12:21

Didn't notice any changes in my eyes/eyesight either time.
My teeth - another matter!!!

jandoc · 05/06/2015 12:53

I don't think my eyes have changed

Tean1 · 05/06/2015 16:23

When I was pregnant I wore glasses rather than contact lenses, as morning sickness meant I had less energy in the mornings, so it was one less chore to put lenses in.

Nik2015 · 05/06/2015 21:00

I had migraines throughout my pregnancy, had my eyes tested but apparently my vision hadn't changed. However it was certainly more blurred but I wasn't sleeping properly (preparing for the baby?).
Since having my baby I have to pretty much wear my glasses all the time.
So much worse than before!

HelenSw4les · 05/06/2015 23:14

The pregnancy itself did not impact on my eyesight, though my babies did once they arrived, several of pairs of spectacles were broken by them knocking them off, I resorted to wearing contacts.

OldBloodCallsToOldBlood · 06/06/2015 09:38

I'm 20 weeks pregnant and have noticed a marked deterioration in my right eye, which is my worst one. I was mildly short-sighted, needing glasses only for driving and at the cinema and comcerts, or similar things. Now I struggle to see what's on the tv clearly.

It's affected me quite badly as I was supposed to start driving lessons but now I can't until after I've had the baby, as my current prescription isn't right and I can't afford to get new glasses now if my eyesight is going to change again after I've given birth. I've also found it very hard to get information about pregnancy and eyesight changes.

Passmethecrisps · 06/06/2015 12:32

I wear contact lenses but don't recall any changes particularly beyond being too tired to be bothered with the lenses in the first few weeks of a newborn.

I think I am now more prone to my eyes being irritated by my lenses but that could be tiredness

MadeinBelfast · 06/06/2015 20:52

I had just started wearing contacts when I got pregnant. I was a bit squeamish about using them anyway but my eyes got really dry and I just couldn't get the hang of them. Now I just stick to glasses but the opticians seem desperate to make me try contacts again!

Yumpopbythesea · 07/06/2015 08:05

Yes. I am short sighted -5.5 -5.25 I have noticed my sight had worsened from about 22 weeks. After baby I plan to treat myself to new glasses. :0)

LaceyLee · 07/06/2015 09:36

My vision didn't change at all during pregnancy. I don't wear glasses or contacts (yet!) and noticed no difference whilst pregnant.

WowOoo · 07/06/2015 15:08

I had to wear my reading glasses a lot more during my second pregnancy.
I thought it was just me - had no idea it was related to pregnancy.

My eyesight seems to have gone back to normal. I don't wear glasses very often. Didn't notice any dryness.
