The team at Vision Direct would love to hear how pregnancy has impacted on your contact lens & glasses wearing habits.

Vision Direct say: “As the UK’s biggest online provider of contact lenses and eye care products, Vision Direct is here to help you enjoy comfortable, healthy vision for less. Our fast delivery, low prices and 7 days a week UK-based customer service are all designed to make things a little easier to manage during the busiest times. Pregnant women often find their eyes change due to shifting hormones and metabolic rates or water-retention (no one’s favourite pregnancy symptom!) We’re always here to help should you need to change your lenses, and you can return them quibble-free."

How has your pregnancy altered the way you wear glasses or contact lenses? Did you find that your eyes were drier and if so, did you try eye drops? Maybe you invested in a new pair of glasses or changed the type of contacts you wear, or perhaps nothing much changed for you.

Share your thoughts – whether your eyesight changed or not Vision Direct want to hear from you; even if you don’t wear glasses or contact lenses.

Everyone who posts a comment will be entered into a prize draw to win a Kindle Fire HDX tablet and a £50 Amazon voucher for filling it with apps, games, movies & music!

Please note that Vision Direct may use your comments – anon of course- on their MN pages, social media or possibly elsewhere; only post if you’re happy with this.

Thanks,
MNHQ

I've worn glasses since I was 8 and contact lens since I was 14 and I think I'm pretty used to how my eyes react to situations - I can spot air conditioning at 500 paces!!
I found my eyes were slightly drier during pregnancy and I found it more of an effort to tolerate my lens - and then of course your eyes get out of the habit of wearing them.

Pregnancy didn't change my eyesight at all. I have pretty bad eyesight, and have worn glasses since the age of 7, and have regular eye examinations.

My eyes have stayed the same since I was around 23 years old. Children came much later.

TengoSueno · 15/06/2015 13:20

My eyesight got worse. I had to begin wearing glasses again. They have never fully recovered.

leannemoore · 15/06/2015 19:40

I wear my glasses to read my son bed time stories .

FuckYouChrisAndThatHorse · 16/06/2015 13:01

Each pregnancy my eyesight got Worse by about -0.5. It did improve slightly post birth but not fully. I started wearing glasses full time instead of just for driving.

I have terrible eyesight anyway -9.5 and -9.75 and astigmatism but it definitely got worse during pregnancy, more blurred and less able to focus for long periods. I saw the optician who referred me to hospital because there were changes to my optic nerve in one eye. Had tests at the hospital which showed a slight swelling but when I went back for a review after the birth the swelling had gone. Had reviews for 18 months but have had no problems ever since. Not having any more babies so will never know if it was entirely down to pregnancy.

I didn't notice any changes in my eyesight whilst pregnant, but needed to buy my 1st pair of glasses when DC was about a year old. The optician suggested that tiredness may have been the cause of my deteriorating eyesight Grin

With my first I my eyesight was affected in so much as I got terrible optical migraines to the point where I'd go blind at least once a day it was awful! Was referred to a consultant but they could find nothing wrong...had them all the way up to the day before I gave birth and then never had another one after (including my second pregnancy!). Weird! When I became pregnant with my little boy I was all ready for them to occur again but nothing happened however this time round my prescription changed - went from 4.50 to 4.25 and I had very sensitive eyes - dry and gritty one minute then watering and squinting the next. Once I'd given birth they returned to normal!

angeltreats · 17/06/2015 06:54

Mine didn't change but I suffered from terrible eyes - 6 months on and they're still not back to normal.

Vision Direct have said:

"Vision Direct would like to thank all the Mumsnetters who participated in this thread! We appreciate all of your honest answers about changes to your eyesight during pregnancy. We had such a great range of responses - from mums who experienced vision changes to mums who decided to stop wearing lenses altogether.

We thought your responses were very interesting and something other women could potentially relate to during pregnancy. We also feel there is an opportunity to explain why these changes happen and steps you can take if you experience vision changes. For this reason, we have decided to take all of your responses and create a visual infographic to illustrate our findings. We hope to share this with all of you once complete!"
