The team at Vision Direct would love to hear how pregnancy has impacted on your contact lens & glasses wearing habits.

Vision Direct say: “As the UK’s biggest online provider of contact lenses and eye care products, Vision Direct is here to help you enjoy comfortable, healthy vision for less. Our fast delivery, low prices and 7 days a week UK-based customer service are all designed to make things a little easier to manage during the busiest times. Pregnant women often find their eyes change due to shifting hormones and metabolic rates or water-retention (no one’s favourite pregnancy symptom!) We’re always here to help should you need to change your lenses, and you can return them quibble-free."

How has your pregnancy altered the way you wear glasses or contact lenses? Did you find that your eyes were drier and if so, did you try eye drops? Maybe you invested in a new pair of glasses or changed the type of contacts you wear, or perhaps nothing much changed for you.

Share your thoughts – whether your eyesight changed or not Vision Direct want to hear from you; even if you don’t wear glasses or contact lenses.

Everyone who posts a comment will be entered into a prize draw to win a Kindle Fire HDX tablet and a £50 Amazon voucher for filling it with apps, games, movies & music!

Please note that Vision Direct may use your comments – anon of course- on their MN pages, social media or possibly elsewhere; only post if you’re happy with this.

Thanks,
MNHQ

Yes, I noticed changes in my vision with both pregnancies.

I experienced some changes in focusing ability (visually and mentally Grin) and also lots of floaters.

I wasn't surprised or alarmed as I thought that it was a well known side effect of being pg.

Anj123 · 30/05/2015 16:37

I wear specs and have daily disposable contact lenses for special occasions as I am short sighted, but found my eyes didn't change during pregnancy.

TrollTheRespawnJeremy · 30/05/2015 16:40

I was a mixed contact lens/glasses wearer and had the same prescription for years but it took a dive after giving birth.

Fed up with having my glasses smashed by a toddler, I ended up getting laser eye surgery.

I still wear 'vanity' glasses but the fear of no longer being able to see is thankfully gone.

joanf · 30/05/2015 17:40

No, my eyesight was not affected at all during my pregnancies

toodles60 · 30/05/2015 17:50

Definitely found that eyes drier. Very uncomfortable and bit itchy too with the dryness. Have tried various eye drops but nothing really helping.

gamerwidow · 30/05/2015 20:47

I don't think my eyesight did change during pregnancy I just carried on wearing contact lens as normal.

anyothergirl · 30/05/2015 22:04

During pregnancy my contact lenses never felt comfortable for more than half an hour. They felt irritating and we're more difficult to put in. Actually finding an optician who understood this was really tough. I now have to stop wearing contacts when I am expecting so finding a great pair of glasses that I feel happy wearing is really important. I'm glad this issue is being raised, no-one warned me to expect it!

hazeyjane · 30/05/2015 23:01

My eyes became drier.
My contact lenses became very uncomfortable so I switched to glasses whilst pregnant
Started wearing contacts again a year after last child.

Hopezibah · 30/05/2015 23:18

I was about to answer no my vision didn't change and then i remembered that whilst my vision didn't change, I did feel sick wearing contact lenses during pregnancy.

I don't wear contact lenses often and i'm not quite sure why it happened but whenever i wore them, i felt queasy and after pregnancy went back to normal.

duckbilled · 31/05/2015 08:41

I have found wearing my daily contacts for longer than a couple of hours very uncomfortable while pregnant. I use my glasses most of the time as my eyes were feeling dry and itchy with the contacts in.

GetKnitted · 31/05/2015 10:39

Really surprised that this is even a thing! I wear glasses but didn't notice any difference in pregnancy, but it could just be that I didn't know to attribute it to pregnancy!

My eyesight has always been ok and I didn't notice any changes during pregnancy. I've noticed a slight deterioration since dc2 was born, but that's probably just old ageSad

FPATEL · 31/05/2015 21:22

In all honesty, I never knew peoples vision did get affected in pregnancy. I think I must have been very fortunate to not have been affected.

nightswift · 01/06/2015 06:28

I'm slightly short sighted but didn't notice any changes to my eyesight in my 2 pregnancies.

SillyBub · 01/06/2015 14:06

I'd worn first monthly and then daily contact lenses for 10 years without any issue prior to being pregnant. However, I had to swap to glasses very early on in my first pregnancy as my eyes were so dry. Now, almost 8 years later, I am still wearing glasses with the very occasional daily contact lens wear (1/2 days a year) as I now think that glasses suit me better.

funkyfish586 · 01/06/2015 14:07

I didn't have any issues with my eyes before pregnancy & I started to get blurred vision and turns out one of my eyes had changed shape which is apparently very common in pregnancy! I would never have guessed

hanliying · 01/06/2015 15:27

my short nearsightedness improved after my first pregnancy and i got rid of my glass. it didn't further improve after my second thought :)

lionheart · 01/06/2015 16:25

Not at all, at least I don't think so. My proprioception did but I'm not sure how much that has to do with vision.

nerysw · 01/06/2015 17:49

My didn't change but I did have some cracking headaches.

Chococroc · 01/06/2015 17:55

I didn't notice any changes in my eyes while pregnant, although have found since the baby has arrived that I don't wear them nearly so much, I should but just seem to forget!

domesticslattern · 01/06/2015 19:11

I didn't notice a big change in vision but did wear my glasses more as I found contacts less comfortable. And I had just bought a smart new pair of frames which I adored!

gnomebulb2 · 01/06/2015 20:00

I did not realise that eyesight could change during pregnancy. I did not experience any noticeable change in vision, but I didn't have them tested before and after, so can't be completely sure either way.

Polywhirl · 01/06/2015 22:23

My vision in one eye got slightly better after pregnancy- still wear glasses and contacts. I now have dry eyes so have upgraded my contacts to a higher moisture brand. Dry eyes is probably due to old age though!

Guyropes · 01/06/2015 22:36

My vision is definitely worse, but I do not want to get new glasses cos I'll only need to get a different pair in a few months time. Glasses are so expensive. I'll just go to optician when baby is a few months old.
