The team at Vision Direct would love to hear how pregnancy has impacted on your contact lens & glasses wearing habits.

Our fast delivery, low prices and 7 days a week UK-based customer service are all designed to make things a little easier to manage during the busiest times. Pregnant women often find their eyes change due to shifting hormones and metabolic rates or water-retention (no one’s favourite pregnancy symptom!) We’re always here to help should you need to change your lenses, and you can return them quibble-free."

How has your pregnancy altered the way you wear glasses or contact lenses? Did you find that your eyes were drier and if so, did you try eye drops? Maybe you invested in a new pair of glasses or changed the type of contacts you wear, or perhaps nothing much changed for you.

Share your thoughts – whether your eyesight changed or not Vision Direct want to hear from you; even if you don’t wear glasses or contact lenses.

Everyone who posts a comment will be entered into a prize draw to win a Kindle Fire HDX tablet and a £50 Amazon voucher for filling it with apps, games, movies & music!

Yes I had blurry eyesight some days. I get cloudy eyesight with migraines but this was different.

velouria · 26/05/2015 22:15

Yes, with my first pregnancy, I had a very odd thing where straight lines would appear to be jaggy Confused I even went to the doctors about it at the time. I didn't wear glasses at that point but have since been prescribed glasses for slight astigmatism, although I don't wear them because they make me feel short, god I'm odd lol.

Haggisfish · 26/05/2015 22:39

My eyesight changed while pregnant - my short sightedness got worse and my eyes were much drier. interestingly, I also got a ring of cholesterol in my eye that I don't normally have. My optician picked up on this, but it disappeared after birth. Apparently it's normal, but my optician had not seen it before. I got bad eyesight headaches, too, which I have neverhad before or after.

KateOxford · 26/05/2015 23:01

During my pregnancies I experienced dry eyes. I stopped wearing contact lenses and bought prescription sunglasses instead, it was really just so I could wear sunglasses that I wore contact lenses so this solved my problem!

FoxyJane · 26/05/2015 23:07

Yes my vision definately worsened slightly through each of my 4 pregnancies, my optometrist said this was down to tiredness and eye strain.

I'm 32 and my vitreous humour is detaching I've been told this is earlier than most diagnoses and as I have an astigmastism which also according to my optometrist can be exasperated by pregnancy is partially the likely cause of the vitreous detachment. Probably down to a change in pressure behind my eye from raising and dropping blood pressure.

No idea if this damage is permanent but I guess it is, I have huge floaters behind my right eye now and a horrible heavy pulling sensation in the evening. I love my babies but the difficulty with my sight is quite distressing you take your good eyesight for granted and when it goes it's very saddening and very difficult to accept.

Macular degeneration is also in our family I just pray I keep my eyesight for as long as possible I would miss it greatly.

ShadowFire · 26/05/2015 23:36

I didn't know that pregnancy could affect eyesight.

I wear glasses, and the only thing I noticed during pregnancy was that my eyes got tired more than usual, but I put that down to not getting as much sleep as normal.

I had my eyes tested recently, and they're still the same prescription as they were before I got pregnant with DC1.

Sephy · 27/05/2015 00:48

I gained a floater in my eye during pregnancy - never had one before.

Then a new baby changed my eyesight correcting habits: glasses became my new normal as taking lenses in and out every time I need a nap is impractical.

Welliesandpyjamas · 27/05/2015 06:14

This is a subject mater sorely undiscussed and acknowledged. Not all opticians are even aware that pregnancy can have an affect on eyesight, which I found quite shocking.

My eyesight got worse in all my pregnancies and the deterioration reversed the laser eye surgery I had paid a lot of money for before them. I am now back depending in glasses for clear vision.

timeforacheckup · 27/05/2015 08:31

My eyesight worsened and my eyes were considerably drier. I moved from contact lenses to glasses and have not moved back again.

MovingOnUpMovingOnOut · 27/05/2015 08:41

Yes! Both pregnancies my eye sight got much worse. I was very, very slightly short sighted prior to pregnancy but fine to drive without glasses. During pregnancy I stopped being able to see the bus or tube numbers from as far away although things improved quite a bit a little while after each pregnancy but eye sight definitely worse.

GP and midwife basically said I was imagining it when I mentioned it and the opticians laughed when I tried to make an appointment Hmm

My eyes are pretty much fine and I don't drive these days so getting an eye test has been on my to do list for a while since the birth of my second child who is two and a half!

CordeliaScott · 27/05/2015 09:27

I normally wear contact lenses all day every day. My eyes may have been drier and would blur easily but not significantly. I put this down to severe morning sickness. I had a review whilst pregnant and my prescription itself had not changed.

neddle · 27/05/2015 09:44

I don't recall any changes with my eyes during pregnancy - and I've had five children. I wear glasses and can't see without them. I did used to wear contacts and I'd like to go back to them as babies grab at glasses.

AvaAmulet · 27/05/2015 09:52

I spent evenings after work and most weekends whilst pg with DD holed up in bed with hypermesis, watching a lot of tv (when I could stomach it) But I did notice my eyesight worsen during this time, the images werent as sharp, and I had to strain a little more. I put this down to tiredness. I have a very low prescription anyway, but when I visited my optician prior to returning to work following maternity leave, he confirmed that my eyesight had worsened slightly. I now put this down to pregnancy x

Spirael · 27/05/2015 11:25

I had vision problems during both pregnancies, but more noticeable for the second. Part of the problem was likely tiredness, but I also had issues with focus so my vision seemed to go soft.

I had a routine optician appointment during pregnancy and mentioned this, but was basically told to live with it until 3 months after giving birth, as it might well sort itself out and there was no point changing my glasses for such a short period.

All well and good, but it made working (I am 100% computer based) during the last few months of pregnancy difficult as I struggled to read the screen and got headaches because of it!

Not sure what a better solution would have been though, as I couldn't afford a new pair of glasses that would only last a few months.

Teladi · 27/05/2015 13:02

I don't remember my eyesight change and didn't even know this was a thing! I did get my eyes tested while pregnant and I think I got asked a couple of extra questions but that was it.

NettleTea · 27/05/2015 13:30

as with many of the others I had trouble wearing my contact lenses through pregnancy, although hitting late 40s has had a more drastic effect on my eyesight!

rahlikeatiger · 27/05/2015 13:53

During my first pregnancy they didn't change at all. However, I am currently pregnant with my second child have I believe that my eyesight has got worse (I have glasses for reading, computer work etc). I find I have to focus harder and have experienced tired, sore and dry eyes. I have booked in a test as I was due one anyway.

April1984 · 27/05/2015 14:25

I wear contact lenses and my vision stayed fairly steady with my first pregnancy. With my second it slightly improved! Only in one eye and I'm not sure if that's pregnancy related or because it's finally started to plateau/improve (I'm 30). I have been wearing my glasses more this pregnancy due to being tired more which I find makes my eyes dry.

lupus · 27/05/2015 14:38

I have worn contact lens for 20 years for short sightedness, and both pregnancies had detrimental to my vision and contact lens comfort. With both pregnancies my prescription had to increase 0.25 whatever the measurement is and my daily disposables began ripping in my eye with dryness, drops had no impact. Breast feeding made it worse.

My last baby is 2, I'm hoping things start to improve soon!

Wenglish · 27/05/2015 14:46

My eyesight was noticeably worse in my first pregnancy. My prescription changed. I Also found I coukdny wear contacts as my eyes were just too dry.

Wenglish · 27/05/2015 14:46

*couldn't

YellowTangerine · 27/05/2015 14:52

I never actually had any tests done or anything so I can't say for certain what it was, however during my pregnancy with DD1 I did experience blurred vision which went after giving birth. It didn't effect me much and I never paid much attention to it.

thestylethatdecadesforgot · 27/05/2015 15:33

I had difficulty with dry eyes while wearing my contacts during pregnancy. Also my prescription changed, I thought it has got worse but actually the optician said my eye sight had improved! That's bizzare and I didn't know that could happen! Then post pregnancy, after some time,my prescription went back to what it was before.

This has happened all three pregnancies. However, this last time, my eyes have been so dry I don't wear my lenses at all if I'm at home. Some days I just want to take my lenses out as soon as I put them in. I notice driving in the evening or when I'm tired my vision is really bad with lenses now. I hate glasses and don't want to wear them full time but each new and improved lense that supposedly lets more oxygen through costs more each month!

teabagsmummy · 27/05/2015 16:00
