We've been asked by comparethemarket.com to find out about who Mumsnetters' ideal celebrity cinema buddy is.

Here’s what comparethemarket.com say: "Everyone loves the movies but it wouldn’t be anywhere near as fun without your chosen companions, whether that be your children, your best friend or your partner."

So, if you could buddy up on a trip to the cinema with any celebrity or historical figure, dead or alive, who would it be and why?

Everyone who leaves their comment will be entered into a prize draw where one lucky Mumsnetter will win a £300 John Lewis voucher.

Thanks and good luck!

With Jim Carey from my childhood he always used to make lough n I really like him :))

LadyIsabellaWrotham · 13/04/2015 16:56

Being realistic I'd say Mark Kermode.

But since he's at his most entertaining when confronted with a truly appalling film, and I'd rather not go to one of those, I'll go for my all time Fantasy Movie Date of Lord Byron. I'd take him to a rom com and he'd be hilariously bitchy and if the film got boring who knows how we'd pass the time.

NerrSnerr · 13/04/2015 17:01

Rob Brydon as I have recently developed a huge crush on him!

hermancakedestroyer · 13/04/2015 17:11

David Beckham or Johnny Depp - not bothered which one! Both as handsome and lovely as each other!

ShatnersBassoon · 13/04/2015 17:46

Claudia Winkleman seems like she'd be good fun for a chat before and after, and I bet she'd share her pick n mix.

Roseformeplease · 13/04/2015 17:49

Mark Rylance. Because he was amazing in Wolf Hall and I saw him as Richard III on stage and he is so brilliantly understated in his acting he could shed some light on how over the top some acting is nowadays.

TooManyNames · 13/04/2015 17:52

Will Farrell, Conan O'brien or Kevin Hart... They're hilarious. Of course I wouldn't be able to follow the film but it would be fun. Wink

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 13/04/2015 17:53

Jo Brand - I think she is an amazing woman - intelligent and funny. I think we'd have a lot in common.

Justmuddlingalong · 13/04/2015 18:09

Russell Brand. If when he spoke during the film, I could legitimately tell him to shuuuush. Grin

MissSmila · 13/04/2015 18:11

Jane Austen - she'd very quickly pick up the idea of films, and I think our favourites would be the ones with sharp dialogue, yet with volumes spoken by a single glance - the films where every detail is a revelation.

And she'd hate almost all recent rom comes so we could bitch happily about those.

BiscuitsForBreakfast · 13/04/2015 18:17

Vince Vaughn. I think he's funny and handsome. He seems like he'd be a great date.

CopperPan · 13/04/2015 18:24

Idris Elba or Benedict Cumberbatch. I wouldn't care much about the film choice or probably pay much attention to the plot!

CMOTDibbler · 13/04/2015 18:54

Steven Tyler when he was younger. I could just sit and rub his lovely leather clad legs in the back row.....

Orangeisthenewbanana · 13/04/2015 18:55

Jennifer Lawrence. She comes across as very down to earth and great fun and I think I'd love to be mates with her. We'd go and get a few drinks first and be a bit tipsy and giggly in the cinema, getting shushed by the people in the row behind Blush!

senrensareta · 13/04/2015 18:56

I don't understand this question. Surely in the cinema you sit in silence in the dark watching a film so a celebrity with you is pointless as you don't really interact and can hardly see them!

Having said that I'd be happy to take Stephen Fry as I'm sure he would be very interesting to discuss any film with afterwards

dementedma · 13/04/2015 18:57

Miranda. We would throw popcorn and shush each other loudly and then get thrown out so we could look indignant and say "rude!"

MadeinBelfast · 13/04/2015 19:09

I immediately thought of Steve Buscemi. Great actor and has been in loads of movies so could tell me all sorts of interesting behind the scenes info.

Momagain1 · 13/04/2015 19:19

ewan McGregor

Itchylegs · 13/04/2015 19:39

Shakespeare - would be fascinated to know what he would think of contemporary plotting and staging!

barricade · 13/04/2015 19:39

I would take any one of the following to the cinemas with me :- Rip van Winkle, Sleeping Beauty, Calvin Coolidge, the Lotus-Eaters (Tennyson poem), or the hero of Wells's 'The Sleeper Awakes'.

Why? ' Cause they'd be fast asleep, leaving me in peace to enjoy the movie!!!

Oscar Wilde. I'd love to hear his thoughts on product placement and how 'comedy' has become so not. . .funny!

thewomaninwhitefluffybunnyears · 13/04/2015 20:16

Queen Victoria. I think that she would be outraged but perhaps enjoy the drama. It could be entertaining all round.

321zerobaby · 13/04/2015 20:35

Liza Tarbuck, would love to meet her, I think she is very funny and seems likes he'd be up for a good chat.

SeattleGraceMercyDeath · 13/04/2015 20:40

Kevin Bacon. Just because he's ace and I could snuggle up to him.

Theimpossiblegirl · 13/04/2015 20:42

Channing Tatum.

I don't care what film, we won't be watching it.
