We've been asked by comparethemarket.com to find out about who Mumsnetters' ideal celebrity cinema buddy is.

Here’s what comparethemarket.com say: "Everyone loves the movies but it wouldn’t be anywhere near as fun without your chosen companions, whether that be your children, your best friend or your partner."

So, if you could buddy up on a trip to the cinema with any celebrity or historical figure, dead or alive, who would it be and why?

Everyone who leaves their comment will be entered into a prize draw where one lucky Mumsnetter will win a £300 John Lewis voucher.

Thanks and good luck!

PS: Compare the Market also say “MEERKAT MOVIES offers 2 for 1 cinema tickets every Tuesday or Wednesday for a whole year when you make a qualifying purchase through comparethemarket.com*. This could be as little as purchasing a single trip travel insurance policy which on average costs just £25.44 - making it one of the most generous rewards programmes available.”

I think I am happy to take my OH as he is the only one who would be happy with me fidgeting and moving around as much as I do throughout a film. He also wouldn't comment on my hatred of popcorn and chocolate or my need to bring a flask of hot decaffeinated tea with me!

TrollTheRespawnJeremy · 14/04/2015 23:21

I think Queen Victoria would be a laugh. She sounds like she had a decent sense of humour.

We'd watch films based on her era, life and extended family and I think she'd laugh her head off at all the discrepancies.

Likewise Id like to watch Abraham Lincoln Zombie Killer with Abe Lincoln. I can imagine his puzzled face.

Coffeechick · 14/04/2015 23:38

I'd take imran khan I'm sure he would gave interesting discussions on the plot of the film.

misstiredbuthappy · 15/04/2015 00:04

My ideal cinema buddy would be Tom Hanks ! I just love him. Plus he's rich so he could pay for the treats WineBiscuitCake Wink

michelleblane · 15/04/2015 00:12

Well I should say my husband but he gets annoyed if I speak during a film as he says it distracts from the plot (he isn't a celeb either!). I need someone I can whisper questions to, someone who will enjoy all the genres I do too. I'm thinking Humphrey Bogart. Love his films and I think he would be interested to see how cinema has developed.

EnormousDormouse · 15/04/2015 04:12

Nobody bagged Aidan Turner yet? I am not sure my intentions are entirely honourable but being in the dark with him for a couple of hours.... I am sure we would have exciting film-related conversations. Maybe.

ChristmasName · 15/04/2015 06:15

Someone quiet and not very well known- I'm a bit of a control freak about cinemas and can just imagine my celebrity prattling on about themselves through the film or else hordes of screaming girls swarming us for autographs and blocking my view of the screen

campocaro · 15/04/2015 06:44

Meryl Streep in one side and Idris Elba on the other-they both have wit, intelligence and beauty in spades!

ErinBlockerBitch · 15/04/2015 07:30

Kenneth Williams, I think he'd have an opinion, and wouldn't want to share the snacks.

Woofers · 15/04/2015 07:49

I will have Poldark or Aramis - although I think we might get funny looks if we turned up on horseback and dressed in period costume.

We could watch anything!!

I also need sweet and salt popcorn and minstrels.

2fat4that · 15/04/2015 09:27

I'd want to take someone quiet, because you don't go to the cinema to chat, right? tbh I'd just take dh, because he likes the same films as me most of the time, he likes to not be disturbed in the cinema and he knows about my aching knees and my need to sit at the aisle so I can move my legs around. If I was picking a celebrity to chat to I'd choose Stephen Fry, because he knows so much and has been to so many places, or Sue Perkins, because I just adore her.

worldgonecrazy · 15/04/2015 09:37

Rather boring, Audrey Hepburn, and I would love to watch one of her films with her, so that she can fill me in on the gossip and funny bits.

pnutter · 15/04/2015 10:21

I think I'd take Anthony Hopkins to see Silence of the Lambs. How scary would that be !

EmilyMaitliss · 15/04/2015 11:38

I'd have Joel Cohen on one side & Ethan on the other. We'd watch Fargo & I might be able to see if they laughed at their own brilliance. (I might not see though, cause I'd be laughing so much myself.)

Cambam2010 · 15/04/2015 13:23

I'd take James Dean. I think he'd like to see just how far modern film making has come on.

BreconBeBuggered · 15/04/2015 13:26

I'd like to go with Bob Mortimer, so that we could exchange daft remarks about the film afterwards.

WouldYouLikeACupOfTeaTooMate · 15/04/2015 14:18

I would take Tom Hardy to see 'Bronson ' and have a running commentary from him on his experience of filming it.

Rushyswife · 15/04/2015 14:34

Henry VIII it would be very interesting to see what he made of cinema, and his life had many high drama and soap style moments! Plus, if it was rubbish it would be fun watching him demand the cast were beheaded! ( I wouldn't actually let him behead anyone though!)

MummyBtothree · 15/04/2015 15:17

David Walliams - I would love to have him as a friend. I love his personality and sense of humour, I find him absolutely hilarious Smile

RubySparks · 15/04/2015 16:20

Victoria Coren Mitchell so we could make up ludicrous connections between films and actors.

SurelyYoureJokingMrFeynman · 15/04/2015 16:51

Unoriginal, but Jane Austen.

But what if she turned her needle-sharp observation on me? Shock

Aethelfleda · 15/04/2015 18:12

Queen Aethelfleda of Mercia.
I'm not quite sure what she'd think of moving pictures, but she was one smart cookie and would be great to chat to afterwards. I reckon we'd watch Braveheart, do like a bit of Mel...

shoebedo434 · 15/04/2015 18:34

Jimmy Stewart so he could explain the plot to me in that wonderful drawl of his

meandjulio · 15/04/2015 19:29

Hattie McDaniel, to watch a double bill of Monster's Ball with Halle Berry and Glory with Denzel Washington. Though God knows she might prefer Calendar Girls. Anyway, I would just want her to see varied and Oscar-winning performances by women and men of colour. I might not answer if she asked me how long it took to happen, though.

Hattie McDaniel, I may say, could not be buried in her first choice of cemetery in 1952 because the cemetery practised racial segregation.
