We've been asked by comparethemarket.com to find out about who Mumsnetters' ideal celebrity cinema buddy is.

Here’s what comparethemarket.com say: "Everyone loves the movies but it wouldn’t be anywhere near as fun without your chosen companions, whether that be your children, your best friend or your partner."

So, if you could buddy up on a trip to the cinema with any celebrity or historical figure, dead or alive, who would it be and why?

Everyone who leaves their comment will be entered into a prize draw where one lucky Mumsnetter will win a £300 John Lewis voucher.

Thanks and good luck!

PS: Compare the Market also say “MEERKAT MOVIES offers 2 for 1 cinema tickets every Tuesday or Wednesday for a whole year when you make a qualifying purchase through comparethemarket.com*. This could be as little as purchasing a single trip travel insurance policy which on average costs just £25.44 - making it one of the most generous rewards programmes available.”

Peter Kay... he makes me laugh until I cry and I know he likes to watch a lot of films.

HeadDoctor · 15/04/2015 19:48

Ryan Gosling - "Hey girl, I bought you some caramel & coconut popcorn and a glass of Sauvignon Blanc". Then he would sit quietly, looking gorgeous, while I enjoyed the film in peace

Breadwidow · 15/04/2015 19:56

Caitlin Moran - I reckon we'd like similar films and she seems like a right laugh, would be nice to have s chat over a pint after the film.

Pimientos100 · 15/04/2015 20:23

Wentworth Miller, I would love to cuddle up with him in the back row! Yum, yum.

Lardylassnomore · 15/04/2015 20:51

Caitlin Moran because I reckon she could make going to see the most boring! Long film in to a great experience and I think she'd be a laugh to go to the cinema with!

ButterflyOfFreedom · 15/04/2015 20:58

Matt Damon.
Who wouldn't want to sit on the back row with him sharing a bag of pic'n'mix Smile

leah99 · 15/04/2015 22:54

Tough one I'd love to go with her majesty queen Elizabeth I bet she is a real barrels, would have to be a really funny lAugh out loud movie hehe other than her then my delightful children xxx

LackaDAISYcal · 15/04/2015 23:40

Alex Cox, British Director and the presenter of BBC2's Moviedrome from 1988 - 1994. He introduced me to a world of movies beyond the commercial, and instilled a love of independant film that I am now sharing with my teenage son.

We would probably be in an arthouse cinema watching foreign comedy classics like Mediterraneo and Delicatessen, with a bit of film noir thrown in for good measure, finishing off with Citizen Kane...

Thewishingchair123 · 16/04/2015 00:13

For me to make my little boy's day it would have to be Postman Pat. Going a step further his cinema party dream team would also involve inviting Jess the cat, Bing, Topsy and Tim, Iggle Piggle, his two favourite 'teddies' (Roo and Rocky the Raccoon) and the cat from next door. Can I bring them all in 'o) ? I'll settle for another First Class Male - Philip Schofield ,o)

GloGirl · 16/04/2015 00:22

Who's quiet? Someone that doesn't talk very much because I like to sit in silence and watch a movie, hog all the popcorn and then come out and digest the film unless I didn't understand it at all

Seriously do not understand why watching a movie is a social occasion! Blush

purplepowers · 16/04/2015 09:55

Meera Syal - I think she's a immensely talented and funny woman. As well as a writer, she does scripts, acting and comedy. I want to be like her and think she's be amazing company.

del2929 · 16/04/2015 10:22

it would have to be jason manford... because he is perfect...

mindmoodmommy · 16/04/2015 10:39

If it were for "going to the cinema ;)" then most definitely David Beckham. If it were for genuinely going to the cinema, then Ed Sheeran or Sam Smith (or both!)- they seem like genuinely nice guys and they would sing to me after the film had finished!

ninnytendo · 16/04/2015 12:14

Fearne Cotton would be a great movie partner as we could watch a film and then chat about it for ages. She always seems so upbeat and chatty it’d be great to join her on a night out.

If she’s not available I’d settle for Daniel Brühl because he’s brilliant.

LJH79 · 16/04/2015 12:59

James Corden as I think he would be hilarious to sit next to!

Cherrygrape4 · 16/04/2015 13:12

James corden - I think he would be hilarious and good company :)

Cherrygrape4 · 16/04/2015 13:15

Ljh I swear I didn't read your post before I posted mine! I was still on page 1 when I posted

MadMonkeys · 16/04/2015 14:14

Someone funny and intelligent. James May perhaps?

librarypictures · 16/04/2015 15:49

Sheridan Smith as she is seems really down to earth and good fun.

Failing that Will Mellor, Calvin Harris or Jason Statham Blush.

DD would pick Taylor Swift - absolutely crazy about Tay Tay at the moment!

Miaow1234 · 16/04/2015 20:31

Robin Williams always makes me laugh and seemed like a lovely guy.

gazzalw · 16/04/2015 21:15

I would go with Nigella Lawson because she is sexy enough to snog in the backseat and she is learned and well-read and will undoubtedly love the same type of films as me Wink.

Lent1l · 16/04/2015 21:23

Neil Patrick Harris. He is just so funny and think he'd be really good company.

acatcalledjohn · 16/04/2015 21:28

Miranda Hart. Slightly awkward, fabulously tall, intelligent and just simply vair hilair!

KittyKat88 · 16/04/2015 21:49

I'd love to go with Thomas Edison - who better than the inventor of the original motion picture camera! I'd love to hear what he thought of modern films and if he ever dreamed his invention would be going strong 100+ years later! :)

manfalou · 16/04/2015 22:09

Id love to go to the cinema with Lee evans so he can do a running commentary on the film.. I never sit long enough to watch a film all the way through, maybe he would help me achieve that.
