We've been asked by comparethemarket.com to find out about who Mumsnetters' ideal celebrity cinema buddy is.

Here’s what comparethemarket.com say: "Everyone loves the movies but it wouldn’t be anywhere near as fun without your chosen companions, whether that be your children, your best friend or your partner."

So, if you could buddy up on a trip to the cinema with any celebrity or historical figure, dead or alive, who would it be and why?

Everyone who leaves their comment will be entered into a prize draw where one lucky Mumsnetter will win a £300 John Lewis voucher.

Thanks and good luck!

PS: Compare the Market also say “MEERKAT MOVIES offers 2 for 1 cinema tickets every Tuesday or Wednesday for a whole year when you make a qualifying purchase through comparethemarket.com*. This could be as little as purchasing a single trip travel insurance policy which on average costs just £25.44 - making it one of the most generous rewards programmes available.”

One of my BFFs and an ex-boyfriend Blush but don't tell DH as they're still totally synched with my taste in films and it takes me back to a early/mid 90s great period on indie films Wink and lots of great trips to the cinema with them.

I would go with Lord Palmerson. As he was HAWT

ScrambedEggAndToast · 13/04/2015 21:11

My ideal companion would be Sheridan Smith. She just seems really nice and down to earth plus quite funny. We're also similar ages so hopefully we'd have things to talk about. I thought she was great in Gavin and Stacey so we could have a laugh about those shows.

butterflyballs · 13/04/2015 21:13

Sandra bullock, she's lovely. She could give me the low down on the Hollywood A list.

TheSpottedZebra · 13/04/2015 21:32

Someone that would bring really good snacks. Maybe Nigella, or either of Hope & Greenwood (the sweet people). Or chocolatier Paul Young.

RhinosAreFatUnicorns · 13/04/2015 21:39

I'd like someone I could have a giggle with and who is on my wavelength so Claudia Winkleman or Sara Cox.

HappySunflower · 13/04/2015 21:47

I would have to say Drop Dead Fred he would be fabulous fun!

Osquito · 13/04/2015 21:49

Karl Lagerfeldt - because I'd finally have someone to watch all the weird/art house films with, he would make dry comments, but most importantly I wouldn't have to share any of my junk food because I'm pretty sure he doesn't actually eat.

aftereight · 13/04/2015 21:52

Any historical figure. Working on the premise that they would be nice and dead quiet.
I hate chatting & popcorn munching in my cinema neighbours Wink

Cheesecakefactory · 13/04/2015 21:57

Dawn French for a good giggle.

InAndOfMyself · 13/04/2015 22:03

I think it would be interesting to talk fims with Paul Giamatti, he'd have lots of interesting things to say about the fims we would watch.

Whyisitsodifficult · 13/04/2015 22:05

Charlie Chaplin. To see his reaction to modern day film would be incredible!

ponybark · 13/04/2015 22:06

definitely johnny depp.

debbriana · 13/04/2015 22:15

J would say beyonce

AGnu · 13/04/2015 22:29

I'd like to go with Queen Victoria mostly so I could make this joke but we wouldn't go to a comedy - I doubt she'd be amused... Wink

mrspink27 · 13/04/2015 22:31

I would take my lovely neighbour so that we could giggle and chuckle and whisper through the film. We always see the double entendres and smutty references even when there arent any and both revert to being 12 again in a rather silly way. Neither of us have it easy at the moment and we need all the laughs we can get!!

GooodMythicalMorning · 13/04/2015 22:44

Nathan Fillion. He'd make any film we were watching together hilarious.

Eastpoint · 13/04/2015 23:03

Is this with a view to getting off with them? Should I name change? Based on recent films, Sean Penn, Jake Gyllenhaal. Russell Tovey is really funny so I think he'd be fun if we were going to have dinner afterwards to talk about the film. Theo Randall or Michel Roux Jr would be good too, especially if they could cook me dinner.

Jellytummys123 · 13/04/2015 23:04

Keith Lemmon, so when it starts he could say 'rollllll VT' still makes me laugh

Daniel Craig

eteo · 13/04/2015 23:24

my husband. cos he wont talk or eat during the show. also he will allow me to spread my legs over his side (he is only very small) lol.

MakeTeaNotWar · 13/04/2015 23:30

Louis Theroux or Stephen Fry!

MovingOnUpMovingOnOut · 13/04/2015 23:44

Lucy Mangan. Because like me she would...

a) have a good old moan about the cost of drinks and snacks
b) probably have a packet of sweets in her pockets instead of purchasing the over priced stuff at the cinema and I'd share my strawberry bootlaces with her.
c) not want to natter all the way through the bloody thing and would join me in shooting disappointed glances at those who do.
d) unlike my last cinema companions I doubt she would need to be taken to the loo at the good bit, drop her drink so it rolls under the seat in front and then shriek until I climbed under the seats to find it or eat ALL the cola flavoured Moam while rejecting the orange ones and expecting me to tell the difference in the dark.
e) she would be able to have a brief and yet edifying conversation about the plot and what was happening on the bus home and not just "wasn't that thingy who used to be in whats-it playing the one with the hair?" or tortuous painful dissection and feminist/Marxist/Freudian critique to the point of sucking all the enjoyment out of the experience
f) she probably wouldn't want to go for dinner afterwards to discuss the whole thing in minute detail because there is a book to be read
g) she wouldn't want to stay out all night because she also has to get back to go to bed

stephgr · 14/04/2015 03:37

David Baddiel because he's so intelligent he could always be relied upon to explain complex plots plus if I fell asleep which I normally do at the cinema then he'd be able to tell me exactly what I missed. If the film was boring he'd be able to make me laugh.
