We've been asked by comparethemarket.com to find out about who Mumsnetters' ideal celebrity cinema buddy is.

Here’s what comparethemarket.com say: "Everyone loves the movies but it wouldn’t be anywhere near as fun without your chosen companions, whether that be your children, your best friend or your partner."

So, if you could buddy up on a trip to the cinema with any celebrity or historical figure, dead or alive, who would it be and why?

Everyone who leaves their comment will be entered into a prize draw where one lucky Mumsnetter will win a £300 John Lewis voucher.

Thanks and good luck!

PS: Compare the Market also say “MEERKAT MOVIES offers 2 for 1 cinema tickets every Tuesday or Wednesday for a whole year when you make a qualifying purchase through comparethemarket.com*. This could be as little as purchasing a single trip travel insurance policy which on average costs just £25.44 - making it one of the most generous rewards programmes available.”

Jane Austen to see what she would make of all the different adaptations of her books.

AndHarry · 14/04/2015 16:03

Snap Zinxie!

cosytoaster · 14/04/2015 16:15

I'd have the Lumiere brothers, so they could see what they'd started

grassroots · 14/04/2015 16:42

Michael Palin - I think he's lush. He has a fabulously dry sense of humour, he's absolutely gorgeous and he would be brilliant company for a few drinks afterwards...

mindexplode · 14/04/2015 16:44

Another one for Benedict Cumberbatch, or johnny Depp, or Aiden Turner

Or the man that plays Thor or Loki

I'm not fussed really :-)

In case it's not obvious I think yhey all have great sense of humour and make excellent films and we would have excellent post film convesations in a restaurant somewhere.

As long as they keep shush during the film, and agree tht the only way to have popcorn is, Salty on top and sweet on the bottom, then anyone is good Grin

domesticslattern · 14/04/2015 17:11

I like to watch my films in complete silence, without someone chatting in my ear or rustling popcorn. So I'd like to watch one with someone dead. And quiet. A former hermit perhaps or someone who took a monastic vow of silence.

chocolateshoes · 14/04/2015 17:13

It would have to be Eddie Izzard. He makes ne laugh so much and although ID have to try hard not to talk to him during the film, it would be brilliant hearing his take on the film at the bar afterwards.

FeelingSmurfy · 14/04/2015 17:27

Charlie Chaplin, I would love to know what he thought of today's movies and movie stars, I hope he would talk to me though and I wouldn't have to guess what he thought as he acted it out silently after the film!

BathshebaDarkstone · 14/04/2015 17:41

Viggo Mortenson, for purely lust-based reasons! Grin

FairPhyllis · 14/04/2015 17:43

I'd love to go with Steven Spielberg so I could talk to him about filmmaking. Maybe we could watch one of his movies!

headlesslambrini · 14/04/2015 18:13

Ewan McGregor - what I wouldn't do with him on the back seat of the cinema Wink

daimbardiva · 14/04/2015 18:14

Claudia Winkleman- great film knowledge but also up for a laugh and a chat

OhYouBadBadKitten · 14/04/2015 18:23

Charlie Chaplin because he would be nice and silent and wouldn't disturb my viewing pleasure.

Cerealchanger · 14/04/2015 18:35

Jennifer Lawrence, we'd have a good laugh

GuybrushThreepwoodMightyPirate · 14/04/2015 18:42

Martin Freeman looks like he'd be good company, plus he's not all that tall so we could sit somewhere with a good clear view.

QOD · 14/04/2015 19:03

Greg Davies cos I love him
I cuddled him once, I'm 5ft and he's 6ft 8 or something. Phnar

Catmint · 14/04/2015 19:08

Guy Garvey because he seems a Snuggly sort, & it's always freezing in the cinema. We would definitely eat loads of rubbish food and slurp giant drinks...maybe with a little dram.

Moogdroog · 14/04/2015 20:20

Tracey Emin - I have a girl crush on her and the movies would be just the start of a wild night out in which we'd end up utterly slaughtered and causing mischief.

flamingtoaster · 14/04/2015 20:25

The Queen - she apparently has a wonderful sense of humour so it would be fascinating to see how she reacted (and she might have an anecdote or two about whoever was in the film since she has met everybody!).

maxpower · 14/04/2015 20:29

Zoe Ball because she reminds me of my best friend in rl

Babycarmen · 14/04/2015 20:33

Cameron Diaz, shes so funny and just seems so down to earth! Would be a right laugh.

boptanana · 14/04/2015 20:33

Graham Norton, because he makes me laugh

marymouse · 14/04/2015 21:28

David tennant, we could discuss the film afterwards and I could listen to his lovely voice Smile

RoseberryTopping · 14/04/2015 21:41

Chris Hemsworth. Sat at the back in the dark, oof!
