We've been asked by comparethemarket.com to find out about who Mumsnetters' ideal celebrity cinema buddy is.

Here’s what comparethemarket.com say: "Everyone loves the movies but it wouldn’t be anywhere near as fun without your chosen companions, whether that be your children, your best friend or your partner."

So, if you could buddy up on a trip to the cinema with any celebrity or historical figure, dead or alive, who would it be and why?

Everyone who leaves their comment will be entered into a prize draw where one lucky Mumsnetter will win a £300 John Lewis voucher.

Thanks and good luck!

Alfred Hitchcock - imagine his reaction to the Sfx we can create today. Jamie Dornan: for a less PG reason.

krisskross · 14/04/2015 10:08

Woody Allen of course!! And the cinema would be on the lower east side...
And the film would have to be casablanca....
I'm off to dream...

ItsJustPaint · 14/04/2015 10:09

Ann Boleyn because she was theatrical to the end

ditsygal · 14/04/2015 10:53

Heath Ledger, I wouldn't mind which film we watched, he was beautiful!

MimsyBorogroves · 14/04/2015 11:03

Simon Pegg. Mmmmm.

WowOoo · 14/04/2015 11:03

I thought Silent Bob would be a good one. I see he's already been suggested.

He would bring a load of snacks and wouldn't talk through the film.

mumsbe · 14/04/2015 11:23

Keith lemon because we find the same things funny and we would be laughing out loud. We would be escorted out for laughing too much!
But it would definitely be a funny night.

Fizzyplonk · 14/04/2015 11:26

Maybe Shakespeare, as again he'd prob be amazed. No idea what he'd be like to chat too though!! Especially if talking in old English language (if that's what it's called!)

MyNameIsInigoMontoya · 14/04/2015 11:57

I would take DS to one that was slightly scary, cos then he snuggles on my knee all through the film. He is not that snuggly at other times, so it's a good chance to grab him before he gets too big to "do" cuddles!

Uzma01 · 14/04/2015 12:02

Benedict Cumberbatch or Johnny Depp. ??

StupidBloodyKindle · 14/04/2015 12:26

Mark Kermode has been mentioned already. His review of sex and the city 2 was bang on the money, worth listening to again on YouTube. But if he is going with someone else, then my sloppy seconds sleb would be Jonathan Ross because he is also very knowledgeable and probably could regale me with some insider slew twaddle. Grin

Happening · 14/04/2015 12:26

Colin Firth - because it would make up for a family member having had dinner with him when I wasn't there!

StupidBloodyKindle · 14/04/2015 12:30

Slew twaddle.

If it is for reasons of eye candy on the red carpet then I'll have Sam Rockwell please. He is easy on the eye and would be able to talk intelligently afterwards....Wink about the FILM, you philistines!

StupidBloodyKindle · 14/04/2015 12:31

Stupid bloody kindle
SLEB twaddle.
Slew might be a specific genre of gossip about peccadilloes, things that make you go ewwwww

TheFlyingFauxPas · 14/04/2015 12:37

Sandy Toksvig. I find I'm liking her more and more as I get older. I have a bit of a crush on her Grin She's really clever so she'll be able to explain the complicated bits I don't get. I'm slightly worried as she's so funny I may keep giggling through the film at her witty asides (wonders if she makes witty asides while at the cinema... Hmm ) I'll try to contain myself.

bluebell345 · 14/04/2015 12:39

Paul Walker. But I would be watching him instead of the film. Grin

ouryve · 14/04/2015 13:18

Robert Webb. Even if the film was truly crap (as so many are), he'd make it a whole lot more entertaining with his asides.

StillNoFuckingEyeDeer · 14/04/2015 14:13

Adrien Grenier if we're going to be getting up to something on the back row.
John Oliver for witty & intelligent conversation afterwards.
If I'm just watching the film, I don't care who it's with, as long as they're quiet.

serendipity1980 · 14/04/2015 14:18

Emma Watson, I think she'd be really good to chat to and I think we'd get on well. Also, my children would love the fact she was in Harry Potter!

AddToBasket · 14/04/2015 14:20

Eadweard Muybridge - inventor of the motion picture.

'Look, here, Eadweard. See what you did?! Amazing!'

Obviously, we'd need to go to see a Crouching Tiger-type cinematic masterpiece. The effect might not be so good if we went to see, say, Nutty Professor II: The Klumps.

Maiyakat · 14/04/2015 14:33

John Cadbury - he would be in charge of snacks

StandoutMop · 14/04/2015 14:35

Bah. Wrote long post which has disappeared.

Basically Caitlin Moran because she makes me laugh and I reckon there'd be post-cinema drinks too.

Belo · 14/04/2015 15:38

Pre kids myself and my husband used to go to the cinema almost every week. Now we never go Sad. Films in the evening don't start until about 9pm and in our new life that is almost bedtime. So, my ideal cinema buddy wouldn't be a celebrity, it would be my hubby. But, if you pushed me and it had to be a celebrity then I'll go for Mark Kermode. It would be great to discuss the film with afterwards.

kittyvet · 14/04/2015 15:46

Judi Dench- I would love to hear opinion on other actors!

Zinxie · 14/04/2015 15:53

I'd love to go the cinema with Jane Austen. What would she make of our humour and manners?! Ideally I'd like to watch a Richard Curtis playlist with her, to show her British humour. I'd love to show her Notting Hill, and think she'd enjoy Hugh Grants performance in it very much. Not sure what she'd say about the Rhys Ifans character..
