Railcard want to talk to you about their Family & Friends Railcard, plus find out about what makes a great day out for you and your family.

Railcard say “We’re offering you the chance to treat your family to a fun-filled theatre trip for 4. What’s more, you’ll also win a Family & Friends Railcard and free rail travel, to help you save money on all your future family adventures.

If you win, your Family & Friends Railcard (worth £30) means you can enjoy 1/3 off most adult fares and 60% off kids’ fares throughout Great Britain for a whole year. So whatever outings you’ve got planned, your Railcard can get you there for less. It really is win-win.

But that’s not all! Thanks to our pals at ‘Theatre Tokens’, you’ll also have £250 to spend at one of over 240 theatres nationwide, including London’s West End. And Railcard will cover the cost of everyone’s return rail travel too.”

Everyone who posts their answer to the multiple-choice question below and tells us what makes a great family day out will be entered into the prize draw where one Mumsnetter will win £250 worth of Theatre Tokens plus a Family & Friends Railcard.

The Family & Friends Railcard helps you save how much?

A) 1/3 off most adult fares across Great Britain
B) 60% off most kids fares across Great Britain
C) Both of the above

Thanks & good luck,

We love travelling on the train, we quite often go to Bristol to see family and do touristy days out. It makes a change from driving (we are an hour or so away by car) and turns it into more of an event and takes away the stress of journeys and parking etc.

A fantastic day out is picnic in the park with outside games and family together, You don’t need to spend a fortune on family days out the fresh air and picnic with added sunshine is just as good.

But if we were going on a family outing our Thorpe Park would be at the top of our kids list, They love rides and watching me scream on the rides.

Whether it’s a cheap park day out or Theme Park we always have just as much fun x

A great family day out always involves a picnic and going somewhere the kids can explore. We love going to forests and parks.

I'm a bit of a railcard zealot since buying our first one just over a year ago. I've told all my friends (in a sort of show and tell with props) how great the railcard is. Living in Bristol, taking the train to London is just SO much less stressful than trying to drive and park, but not always cost effective when you have to whole family travelling. The railcard has revolutionised our planning and our scope for trips out (We enjoyed a weekend in Leicester last year, where the rail journey was as much part of the trip as the hotel). This year I have decided to try start taking the kids to theatre in London, now that DD is old enough to understand and enjoy them to the full.

A great day out is somewhere with no long queues!
I try and take my son places to avoid the crowds so we tend to do different things than other families.
Being super organised is a must and plan everything to avoid boredom missed transport etc

A great family day out for us is visiting a place of interest, so a zoo or museum etc. we like to visit big cities and going on the train is great as the stations are usually pretty central and you don't have to worry about parking! We like to round the day off with a family meal and then home on the train where we can chat about our day and have a little nap if we want to!
Sometimes less is more so not too much planning and also an opportunity to be spontaneous.

We love trips to the beach especially Dawlish in the summer for the air day. We often take a picnic to save on buying food. Having a Railcard saves me so much money when we go too.

The near family day out is one where memories are made, we're all so busy with school and work that we can forget how much we actually like each others company! So whether it's a trip to the park or an expensive day at a theme park the important thing is making the most of the time together

A great family day out for us is one where we are both relaxed and our DC are happy, and where we can be a bit spontaneous.

We love nothing more than wandering round London. My boys love London and are happy walking round town, seeing the sights. They loved finding the Mandeville and Wenlock figures during the Olympics, and recently we did the fabulous Paddington trail. There's so much to see. I've lived in London for most of my life but I'm still learning about the city and seeing it all through my children's eyes is magical.
