Railcard want to talk to you about their Family & Friends Railcard, plus find out about what makes a great day out for you and your family.

Railcard say “We’re offering you the chance to treat your family to a fun-filled theatre trip for 4. What’s more, you’ll also win a Family & Friends Railcard and free rail travel, to help you save money on all your future family adventures.

If you win, your Family & Friends Railcard (worth £30) means you can enjoy 1/3 off most adult fares and 60% off kids’ fares throughout Great Britain for a whole year. So whatever outings you’ve got planned, your Railcard can get you there for less. It really is win-win.

But that’s not all! Thanks to our pals at ‘Theatre Tokens’, you’ll also have £250 to spend at one of over 240 theatres nationwide, including London’s West End. And Railcard will cover the cost of everyone’s return rail travel too.”

Everyone who posts their answer to the multiple-choice question below and tells us what makes a great family day out will be entered into the prize draw where one Mumsnetter will win £250 worth of Theatre Tokens plus a Family & Friends Railcard.

The Family & Friends Railcard helps you save how much?

A) 1/3 off most adult fares across Great Britain
B) 60% off most kids fares across Great Britain

Thanks & good luck,

What makes a great day trip for our family is one where we are not restricted by times or car park limits etc. so, where we can relax and be flexible with what we are doing. Also where the adults can either participate or can enjoy watching the kids having fun!

Its great to use the train for days out and holidays, it takes away all the stress of driving and parking. I love being able to enjoy the holiday as well, it makes my holiday

Finding activites that suit 6, 11 and a 13 year old make a fun day out - thankfully we can find things for us to do as a family.

c) Both.

A great family day out is one that doesn't cost the earth, lots to do and see, and is as stress-free as possible. (My fave family day out every year is Sunderland Airshow)

What makes a great day out? For all of us, it's a chance to spend some time together away from the disractions of day to day life. DS loves going anywhere by train, and a great day out will usually involve going somewhere new, getting some fresh air (and hopefully some sunshine) and an ice cream before we go home!

Just aslong as the weather is bearable and we have food and drink with us then a nice trip to Central London is always a fun day out, plenty to do and my daughter never says 'I'm bored' whilst there!

Usually a train journey adds to the enjoyment and makes the day out extra-special, but on some trains, some of the seats have no windows beside them and the seat backs are so high that it feels like being locked up in a little prison cell.

A great family day out is relaxed, interesting and fun. Any destination will do, beach, city, countryside, but somewhere new is always exciting.

A great family day out is one where there is something for everyone, but mainly the kids. If they are happy and having fun, then so am I, as I get pleasure from seeing my sons enjoying themselves. If a long journey is involved I always try to make that fun too, to lessen the stress factor. Listening to story tapes in the car to pass the time, or taking some cards to play on the train.

A perfect day out? A train to the seaside. It does not have to be a long journey, Complete with a picnic lunch and perhaps chips at the seaside later. A tired by happy return journey on the train home.

a great family day out can just be as simple as a walk through the moors on a sunny, windy day, picnic at the top then a ramble by a stream. ideal.

C!

A great day out for my boys involves either a diesel or a steam train depending on where they want to go, anywhere that has a park and some where to have a picnic.

This would be great, my daughter loves trains and I find it nice to be able to interact with them more on journeys whereas in the car you can't if there is only one parent

Anyexcuse · 17/03/2015 21:08

C - save on adult and kid fares.

A great family day out for us usually involves a train, a cafe, a gallery or museum, a picnic, a park and another train home.

We are quite lucky that we live within walking distance of a main line station. It is so easy and stress free to jump on the train for a day out in London and we often do this and catch a show in the evening. A railcard makes this an economical day out for the family.
