Railcard want to talk to you about their Family & Friends Railcard, plus find out about what makes a great day out for you and your family.

Railcard say “We’re offering you the chance to treat your family to a fun-filled theatre trip for 4. What’s more, you’ll also win a Family & Friends Railcard and free rail travel, to help you save money on all your future family adventures.

If you win, your Family & Friends Railcard (worth £30) means you can enjoy 1/3 off most adult fares and 60% off kids’ fares throughout Great Britain for a whole year. So whatever outings you’ve got planned, your Railcard can get you there for less. It really is win-win.

But that’s not all! Thanks to our pals at ‘Theatre Tokens’, you’ll also have £250 to spend at one of over 240 theatres nationwide, including London’s West End. And Railcard will cover the cost of everyone’s return rail travel too.”

Everyone who posts their answer to the multiple-choice question below and tells us what makes a great family day out will be entered into the prize draw where one Mumsnetter will win £250 worth of Theatre Tokens plus a Family & Friends Railcard.

The Family & Friends Railcard helps you save how much?

A) 1/3 off most adult fares across Great Britain
B) 60% off most kids fares across Great Britain

Thanks & good luck,

To me what makes a great day is a day that everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves, that there were no stresses, annoyances, upsets or whatever, and in general a day of fun, laughter, smiles and good memories being made, making everyone want more.

We try to days that have something for both adults and children. A bit of fact and a bit of fun.

Great family day? When teenaged dd designs to come with us, and we catch a glimpse of her childhood as she 'helps' her younger brothers in the playground/ do the quiz/ look for souvenirs.

The perfect day out starts on the train. I get to sit with a coffee while the dc watch the scenery whizz past. Bliss compared to driving. Our favourite days out include a bit of history, a bit of culture and lots of fun. York is perfect for that. The Roman Walls, the Railway Museum and a play by the river. Perfect.

We love going on the train: the journey is part of the fun of the day out. My three DC love getting to travel by rail even if there's always one that falls asleep on the way home....

We live close to London, it's often easier to go by train. We don't have to worry about parking, and can even enjoy a glass of wine or two with lunch.

My boys love taking the train, it's great fun for them and they associate "trains" with "treats" I.e going somewhere fun/special

A great family day out caters for everyone and has plenty of time to refuel for snacks and a rest!
