Railcard want to talk to you about their Family & Friends Railcard, plus find out about what makes a great day out for you and your family.

Railcard say “We’re offering you the chance to treat your family to a fun-filled theatre trip for 4. What’s more, you’ll also win a Family & Friends Railcard and free rail travel, to help you save money on all your future family adventures.

If you win, your Family & Friends Railcard (worth £30) means you can enjoy 1/3 off most adult fares and 60% off kids’ fares throughout Great Britain for a whole year. So whatever outings you’ve got planned, your Railcard can get you there for less. It really is win-win.

But that’s not all! Thanks to our pals at ‘Theatre Tokens’, you’ll also have £250 to spend at one of over 240 theatres nationwide, including London’s West End. And Railcard will cover the cost of everyone’s return rail travel too.”

Everyone who posts their answer to the multiple-choice question below and tells us what makes a great family day out will be entered into the prize draw where one Mumsnetter will win £250 worth of Theatre Tokens plus a Family & Friends Railcard.

The Family & Friends Railcard helps you save how much?

My railcard ran out recently but it was SO good I have two boys and it made day trips on the train considerably cheaper, which was so helpful. I should have renewed it in time for easter really, I think I'd then have been more likely to plan daytrips. I recently passed my driving test, but getting the train really saves a lot of hassle and often money no petrol or parking to consider.

a great day is spending more time being together as a family then cooped out in a small space travelling to get someone. Somewhere you can walk and have a nice meal is always top of our list for days out

Taking it in turns to decide an activity that way every one feels involved, usually involves walks in the country spotting the local wildlife, saving the wetter days for cinema and the theatre.

Not making too many plans and turning an enjoyable day out into a military operation.

With 2 little ones we try to keep it as stress free as possible. Take lots of snacks and go somewhere child friendly!

Having both a girl and a boy, we like to do something we can all enjoy as a family. A circus or good kids show is fun if the weather isn't great or in the warm Summer we like to visit the theme park or seaside and go for donkey rides & picnics. The places you can visit these days are endless really. My children are never bored in the holidays :)

For us a great day out involves a train as DS is obsessed with them, a bit of sightseeing, a nice lunch, and then a trip to a park or cinema before catching train home.

A great day out would be going on public transport as my LO loves to travel on buses and trains. Also, he loves to go out with his cousins.

Something that mixes entertainment with education is the best day out so museums etc.

A great day out would be on a vintage steam train (DD adores trains) with a half way point stopover with a lovely traditional picnic filled with goodies.

Sunshine, packed lunch, reserved seats, card games and lots of toys - great thing about trains is you can take walks to and from the buffet car when you need a change of scene!
