Hobbycraft have asked us to find out what arts and crafts activities you’ll be doing with your DCs during the Easter period.

Here’s what they say, “With lots of opportunities for fun over the Easter holidays we’d love to know what crafty activities you’ll be taking part in this Easter holidays! Are you making Easter bonnets, or even creating your own egg hunt or maybe baking with the kids? Here at Hobbycraft we’d love to hear about how you create your own Easter family traditions!”

So, what kind of arts and crafts activities will you be doing with your DCs in the run up to Easter? Maybe you’ll be painting and decorating Easter eggs? Or will you be making Easter bonnets in time for an Easter bonnet parade at school? Whatever it is we’d love to hear it!

Everyone who posts on this thread will be entered into a prize draw where three lucky Mumsnetters will win £100 Hobbycraft gift cards!

Last year, here at MNHQ we put together a video tutorial on making an Easter bonnet so if you need any inspiration do check it out!

Thanks and good luck,

MNHQ

P.S. For more Easter crafts ideas, check out our Hobbycraft pages on Mumsnet.

Will make bunny cake - two round cakes, one you cut ear shapes off each side to leave a bow tie shape, put together to make rabbit face and decorate with lots of lurid icing.

Will try blowing eggs and decorating some, maybe a tree.

Will be doing lots of Easter Egg treasure hunts as it's a good way to get kids outside without complaint.

Maybe make their own baskets for the bunny to fill.

cocochips · 22/03/2015 14:05

My little ones will be painting eggs

mummybare · 22/03/2015 16:48

I think they're doing bonnets at nursery so I'll probably do some egg blowing/decorating. Maybe some bunny biscuits or something as well.

purplevamp · 22/03/2015 17:04

We always make cupcakes for Easter so will be doing that again this year

StickChildNumberTwo · 22/03/2015 17:13

I suspect there'll be an Easter bonnet competition at nursery again. Last year that involved the small one directing my not very crafty efforts and then refusing to wear the result! She was pleased with the prize she won though. This year I'll be encouraging her to do more herself.

We might try egg decorating too (so we can roll them) and I'm sure I'll have assistance with some baking.

i have actually made my youngests sons easter bonnet today (i wish i would of watched that video now!) and this week i am attempting a egghead of elsa from frozen (under very strict instructions from my 6 year old ) so no pressure ha ha

Compermo · 22/03/2015 20:01

Easter bonnets are very popular, and the traditional egg decorating, and easter morning egg hunt

RavioliOnToast · 22/03/2015 21:30

We will be baking little cupcakes with bunnies on, a giant chocolate cake with chocolate 'nest' covering and eggs in the middle. And we are going to plan a treasure hunt!

Stoodles · 23/03/2015 07:32

Making pleated paper tissue flowers. A big vase full in pastel colours looks so spring like

GrooveHeart · 23/03/2015 10:10

I've made an easter bonnet for my little girl. I'm not usually crafty but really enjoyed it and it's turned out OK. Phew!

krnries · 23/03/2015 13:04

We haven't started planning yet, but there's always a lot of crafts goes on for Easter: Easter cards and baskets of chocolate eggs, painted boiled eggs and sometimes homemade Easter Eggs as well :)

gemima27 · 23/03/2015 15:13

we have made card chicks and eggs, decorated with beads and glitter

Sashiko · 23/03/2015 15:55

I've seen a thing where you dye eggs with food colouring, so we might give that a go, and of course we'll make birds nest cakes.

I've seen a super-cute pom pom bunny which I think DD will love, so I'll teach her how to make pom poms and we'll attempt that, although I suspect it might result in a "nailed it" type pic!

I've also bought a big Easter themed colour-in table cloth, so in theory we'll do that, but in reality DD will get bored / start demanding food / require parenting in some way, and I'll be busily colouring in!

Uzma01 · 23/03/2015 18:10

It's my birthday during the holidays so will get the kids to make some cakes and decorate them. I ordered a couple of Weekend Boxes for them, so will be making our way through the activities - making totem poles, dream catchers and hats with feathers. Plus I think it's about time we got round to filling up their scrapbooks with their artworks from home and nursery/school before the next baby arrives in the summer.

DharmaBumpkin · 23/03/2015 20:43

We'll be making fluffy chicks out of yellow wool pompoms... Any craft which involves making pompoms is a good one :)

ddpunk182 · 23/03/2015 21:18

I love "helping" to craft my nieces easter bonnet! Hobbycraft must make a killing out of me!

GrumpyOldTrout · 23/03/2015 21:50

We tend to do lots more baking than usual over Easter because it's DD1's birthday, and there's more time to make lunch-box treats to take with us when we're out and about. The kids will undoubtedly paint every blank piece of paper in the house. And finally, after years of putting them off, I'm steeling myself to teach the 3 of them how to crochet. They're 5, 7 and 8, and only the 7 yo can concentrate for any length of time...

AnneEyhtMeyer · 23/03/2015 21:56

I'm going to get some paper to make a scrapbook whilst on holiday. Lots of different colours of loose paper so if DD isn't happy with something it can be ditched, then at the end of the holiday tie it together with some pretty funky ribbon.

I also have bought a cheap straw hat so we'll go mad with the glue gun and make an Easter bonnet with various bits and bobs we've got around the house.

compy99 · 23/03/2015 23:42

finger painting! just started to try this, so will be doing it more and maybe start getting more on the paper !

bc1616 · 23/03/2015 23:51

making chocolate bunnies

janemphoto · 23/03/2015 23:53

We will be decorating eggs with stickers

omgitslani · 24/03/2015 08:22

We will be making easter baskets for our egg hunt and probably attempting some easter baking, though I imagine we will stick to simple chocolate nests made from chocolate and rice crispies!

Kangakate · 24/03/2015 08:46

Were going to be crochet little egg covers, painting eggs, then using them in a egg hunt and geocatching. Were also going to make some bunny sock puppets with pompom tails

cluckyhen · 24/03/2015 08:59

We will be card making, cake making and egg decorating.

cookinmummy · 24/03/2015 09:38

I have literally just got back into sewing which was fortuitous as DD2 has to dress up as a chick for her Easter fete at school! So this year we shall be making costumes, painting eggs (we have a family competition for best roller lol), and I usually get the older two to make their own egg baskets for collecting eggs in the hunt round the garden. Love Easter! x
